Introduction
As part of SHSB plan for H2S mitigation projects, an air filter will be placed on strategic or critical area
around powerhouse and switchyard. The air filter will be capable to filter the H2S gas on the critical
area. The filter that is delivered to SHSB is from American Air Filter (AAF) H2S filter panel type RU-1000V
for single phase and RU-2000V for three phase come with SAAF Shield reactivity monitoring unit.
The H2S filter panel is a recirculating unit which draws contaminated air from contained space,
cleans the air and the returns the cleaned air back into the space. The monitoring unit is a real time
or on a periodic basis to determine equipment or material vulnerability to corrosion.
The SAAF detecting unit is using traditional corrosion control ISA 71.04-1985 standards where the
standards is used for control rooms, motor control centers and other such areas. The unit is in
angstroms where it measures the corrosion rate on the sensing plate surface. Table 1.0 shows the
class for corrosion controls using ISA 71.04-1985 standards.

Plug in reading unit on detecting unit at data center, EL 62 powerhouse.

After 26 Hours, the data will be collected and save to a USB pen drive.
The raw data from the detecting unit will be uploaded to SAAF website to generate a
report.

Data Centre
Incremental Corrosion Rate (Before H2S filter commissioning)

Graph 1.0 Incremental corrosion rate for month of june

Graph 1.0 shows the corrosion rate for data center from 21/6/14 until 22/6/14. The graph shows
the corrosion rate for silver sensor (Gray line) and copper sensor (Pink Line). From the graphs,
the H2S level in the Data Centre is on G2 class where corrosion is on very low level and no
much effect on materials or systems.

Incremental Corrosion Rate (2 Months After Commissioning)

Graph 1.1 Incremental corrosion rate for month of august

-

Graph 1.1 shows the corrosion rate for data center after the H2S filter panel commissioning on
23/6/14. The corrosion rate for both sensor shows that the data center is still in class G2 where
the corrosion rate is very low. After 2 month of operations, the trending for copper sensor show
the H2S level is decreasing to zero or class G1 where corrosion is not a factor and material or
systems is zero effect from H2S gas.

Conclusions
-

Low level of H2S on the data center before AAF filter commissioning is due to previous
installation of H2S filter by others contractor.
From the result, the H2S level on data center is very low and almost zero. No material or
systems will be heavily affected.
Previous server on the data center is still in good condition even thou before AAF filter is
install on the data center.
