Wind Energy

Under the sanctioned by MNES wind masts were installed in 30 sites in Assam. Data collection works under the
project have been completed. The data collected is now being used by the Indian Institute of Tropical
Meteorology, Bangalore for preparation of Wind Maps for Assam.

The Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources (MNES) sanctioned a Wind Monitoring Project during 199596. Under this project sophisticated Wind Monitoring equipment were installed by Energy Division of ASTE
Council in five sites having good wind potential with an objective of assessing feasibility of putting up big Wind
energy generators in these sites. Wind data were collected for three continuous years submitted to Indian
Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Bangalore for scrutiny.

The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources (MNES) sanctioned a Wind Energy Assessment Project
during 1998-99. Under this project five 10 meter wind monitoring mast were installed and data was collected
continuously for three months and submitted to National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL) for scrutiny.

The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources (MNES) sanctioned a Wind Resource Energy
Assessment at 3 locations in N C Hills district to be undertaken
Under a different programme, 6 wind generator cum battery chargers of 1 KW capacity has been installed and
commissioned at the six APRO Repeater stations viz Jalukbari, Bhubaneswari, Morianka (Kamrup District)
Abhayapuri (Goalpara),
Kamala Than (Nagaon) and Mahamaya peak (Karbi Anglong district). The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy
