OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson students will be able to:
1. to change from indirect speech to direct speech.
2. to use correctly grammar, spelling and punctuation
3. to understand the meaning of a reading message
4. to solve exercises using the new grammatical structure

ACTIVITY 1 -WARM-UP:
AIM: to make Ss feel comfortable with the new lesson and situation/ environment
INTERACTION: T-S, S-S
PROCEDURE: the T greets the Ss, checks if someone is missing and asks students to watch
a video with reported speech, after they have watched it they have to remember as many rules
as they can about reported speech. The teacher tells them that they are having a new lesson in
which they will practice reported speech, writing the title on the board.

ACTIVITY 2
AIM: - to introduce the Reported Speech statements
PROCEDURES: The teacher explains the students, presenting a Power Point presentation,
that indirect speech is usually introduced by a verb in past tense and that verbs in the direct
speech have then to be changed into a corresponding past tense, the expressions of time and
place have to be changed, pronouns and possessive adjectives normally change from first or
second person to third person, which are written on the presentation. Students note on their
notebooks.

ACTIVITY 3
AIM: - to consolidate reported speech using different types of exercises
PROCEDURES: Teachers plays the CD, Helen is looking for a new job. Yesterday she
spoke to someone in the personnel department of a chain of cloths shops. Students listen and
in pairs complete the sentence with a verb in the correct form.

They check themselves using the check button.

ACTIVITY 4
AIMS:-to introduce reported questions, orders, requests, promises
PROCEDURE: Teacher explains that to report what someone asked/is asking something, we
use ask, want to know, would like to or wonder and to report a question we use ASK +
question word (who, where, which, when, why, where, how). The explanations are written on
the presentation. Students write on their notebooks.

ACTIVITY 5
AIM: to practice reported speech
PROCEDURE: Teachers plays the CD. Students have to click on the gaps and choose the
correct reporting verbs and to complete the sentences with the correct form of the verbs in
brackets and to add a preposition where necessary.
