For Graduate Students
Purpose:
This course is to provide students with a theoretical and practical orientation to project
sustainable design management, and further acquaint them with sustainability management
approach. Sustainability problems are often resolved through a project also. It is beneficial to
the problem resolution when understanding the project process and having project
management knowledge and techniques.
Background:
Construction and industrial projects have their life cycle stages including planning, design,
production, operation, and disposal/reuse. The work force and management in practice are
usually devoted to design and production. Nowadays, project design is physically and largely
faced with sustainability issues. For example, the green building regulations of many
countries establish vast amount of requirements and standards in the design stage. Therefore,
current management has to incorporate sustainability considerations into project design.
Traditional project management teaches knowledge and techniques for managing
various kinds of projects. Based on project management, this course focuses on design
management and sustainability considerations.
