Before connecting or disconnecting the power cable, turn off

o the power switch. Otherwise, fire or injury may occur.
When connecting and maintaining optical fibers, do not stannd close to or look into the optical fiber outlet directly with
naked eyes. Otherwise, the laser emitted from optical fiberss harms your eyes.

Install interface cards into matching slots. The slots on the USG can house different interface cards. If an interface card
is inserted into an unmatching slot, the USG may fail to staart, or the interface card or USG may be damaged. Before
installing and removing an interface card, ensure that the device
d
is powered off; that is, the power switch is in OFF
position. Installing and removing interface card during pow
wer-on may result in damage on the interface card or device.
Make sure that the equipment room is under lightening prootection. Although lightening proof design is taken into
consideration the device may be damaged by certain lighttening beyond tolerance
consideration,
tolerance.
When operating the USG, ensure that the device and operaating tools are properly grounded. Otherwise, the USG may be
damaged. If you need to touch the USG or interface card directly
d
with your hands, wear the ESD wrist strap. The other
end of the strap should be properly connected to the ESD wrist
w
strap socket, as shown in the figure.

Installation
The USG can be installed into a 19-inch cabinet, or placed on an insulating and clean workbench.

1 Installing the Grounding Cable

1 Connect one end (with
the smaller radius for
the OT terminal of a 1U
device) of the grounding
cable to the grounding
hole.

2 Fix the other end (with

the larger radius for the
OT terminal of a 1U
device) of the grounding
cable to the grounding
terminal of the cabinet or
workbench.

z The

previous figures take the USG2230 as an example.

The operations for other models are similar.
z If no independent
p
grounding
g
g terminal is available for the
grounding cable, ensure that the grounding point of the
power supply is firmly grounded.
