INDIVIDUAL PROJECT
Name: Yi Lin Lim
Student Number: 20685243
Brief Description:
Research Phase:
1) Understand the type of information that was presented in the website.
2) Refresh Entity-Relationship Diagram Concepts
Five Main Concepts:
1) Classes
Primary Key must be unique, no two rows will have the same value
for the same attributes
2) Associations: Relationships between objects of 2 classes
Multiplicity of Associations - Each object of class is related to at least
m and at least n objects
3) Association Classes: relationships between objects of 2 classes with
attributes on relationship
4) Subclasses:
Task: Determine the different classifications hospitals are grouped
Documentation (Justification)
Peer Group Classification:
Overview: Useful Patient Information
1) Location of hospitals State, Post Code
2) Size of hospitals number of doctors, number of available beds,
3) Services they provide ED, Elective Surgeries, Major Surgeries
4) Cost of the hospitals cost per day rate
5) Type of the hospitals private or public, metro or regional
6) Experience of the hospitals - Year of Establishment
Peer Group Classifications
Main Objective: To ensure that the choice of hospital is within vicinity and provides
the appropriate services that the patients required:
1) Types of Services Available ED, Major Surgery, Elective Surgery
2) Location State / Post Code
Main Objective: To ensure that the patients can choose the type of hospitals they
would prefer to go for, peer group classification can include the size of the hospitals,
including:
3) Public or Private
4) Number of Available Beds
5) Size of the hospital More vulnerable patients or Number of patients

6) Cost of the hospital Per Day Rate

Emergency Department Classification:

Patient Information:
Overview: Useful Patient Information
1) How long to wait for treatment time patients spend in the emergency
department, median time from arrival to department
2) Availability of staffs Total number of ED attendances
3) After-Care Services Yes/No, Type of visit of 'emergency presentation'
4) Number of emergency cases they treated Emergency, urgent, semi-urgent, nonurgent
Main Objective: For patients to understand the efficiency of the emergency
department
1) Time patients spend in the emergency departments
2) Waiting time for treatment
3) Types of Emergency cases (TriageCode): Emergency, urgent, semi-urgent, nonurgent
Main Objective: For patients to understand the service availability within the
emergency department
3) After care Services Availability Yes/No
4) Total number of ED attendances
5) Days of patient care under surveillance
6) Type of visit of 'emergency presentation'that is, the measures excludes
presentations with a type of visit of 'return visit, planned', 'pre-arranged admission'
or 'patient in transit'.

Elective Surgery Classification:

Overview: Useful Patient Information
1) How long to wait for surgery Total patients on elective surgery wait list, Total
admissions from elective surgery wait list, Median Waiting Time, Number of elective
surgeries, Time taken between appointment and scheduled surgeries
2) Availability of facilities Number of active overnight beds, Occupancy of overnight
beds, number of people discharged on that day
4) Number of emergency cases they treated Emergency, urgent, semi-urgent, nonurgent
5) Experience in type of surgeries Name of surgeries, Number of cases treated
6) How expensive to carry out the surgery Average Cost
7) Classification of elective surgeries: Urgent, Semi-urgent, Non-urgent

Major Surgery Classification:

Overview: Useful Patient Information
1) Type of surgeries:
2) Cost of surgeries:
3) Severity of patients:

1. Time in the emergency department from arrival to departure

2. The percentage of presentations treated on time within a given triage
category ('waiting times')
3. The number of presentations in each triage category.
