NEWSLETTER
November -2014

A word from the Metropolitan:

Children in many countries are often the victims of cruel
exploitation of various kinds. Mother Teresa once said The
biggest disease today is not leprosy or tuberculosis but rather
the feeling of being unwanted. Due to acute poverty in rural
villages, abandoning children is a choice that some parents are
almost forced to make.

Study reveals that throughout the world more than 150
million children between the ages of 4 and 14 are involved
in child labor. The reality may be much bigger than we
even know. The life of lakhs of children in our nation and
neighboring nations encounters countless challenges daily.
We see them on the streets struggling to have one time meal,
laboring hard in shops, companies and such other places to
make their living. They do not enjoy their childhood and have
no privilege of being educated. Hunger, pain, despair and
loneliness become a part of their lives. It is always good to
remember that we did not ask to be born and raised in the
circumstances and comforts we have. We also could have
been born destitute in one of the slums of Kolkata or Mumbai,
made blind and turn into a street beggar or sold into the sex
business to live a life of hell.

God in His mercy gave us the privilege of living with
the freedom and blessings words cannot describe. Hundred years from now, whatever we have earned on this earth - the
house, cars, cloths, bank accounts, vacations, opinion of others, honor we sought for - will have no value. Now is our
opportunity to serve these precious children. Amy Carmichael said we shall have all eternity to celebrate the victories,
but we have only few hours before sunset in which to win them.

Count this as an opportunity to serve and express the love of God. It is my prayer that this Volume II of
Newsletter will help each of the readers to know better what we stand for and help children to grow wholistically.

May I quote Matthew 18:10 See that you do not look down on one of these little ones; for I tell you that their
angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven?

May the Blessings of God be with you!

materials to make this Newsletter complete.
The main objective of publishing this
Newsletter is to let readers know and
understand the service provided by the
schools in remote community of Nepal.
We are blessed to observe the Believers
English School playing vital role in
sowing the seeds of education by
designing and providing both knowledge and
a healthy mind and creating a sense of love that
responds to the humanity.

I
appreciate
and

Coordinators Acknowledgement

I am delighted to thank staff of each school,
well wishers, and Rev. Merrilyn Teague and donors of
Australia and Singapore, Principals, Teaching and
Non-Teaching staff for their valuable contribution to the
schools they have made thus far. This is our second issue
of our Believers English Schools Newsletter. It would have
been difficult for us to bring out the Newsletter without
the assistance of school, Brother Gyan Bahadur Rai, Simon
Dass, Krishna Pradhan, Pr Shasidhar Chapai, Rev Fr Dr
Chitra Kumar Rupacha, Rev Fr Hem Chandra Sharma, Rev
Dhan Bahadur Tamang, Rev Fr Budhiram Dangi and Ps
Bimal Rai. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the above
mentioned names. I am grateful to Bishop Dr. Narayan
Sharma for going through the articles and matters and
considering it to make the Newsletter and for rendering the
permission to print and publish it.

When we just look back the progress and
development done in the last one year is really awesome.
God was so good that many of our works which we had
proposed have been fulfilled and we are constantly on
journey to do more relevant work ahead for the
betterment of the existing schools. Land for schools
was bought, school building constructions have been

successfully done in many places and many major events

and programs were conducted in the last one year.
Moreover, we will also be working on Newsletter to make
more attractive and relevant. Therefore, we happily invite
you all the readers to assist us consistently to make the
Newsletter the best.

Finally, I hope
readers enjoy reading the
articles and be blessed.
Do continually pray for
our schools and for all of
us that God may render us
wisdom and discernment
to carry out the schools
task excellently. Once
again thank you!

THE VALUE AND PRICE PAID FOR 16 PRIMARY BELIEVERS

ENGLISH SCHOOLS, WITH 3,000 NEPALI CHILDREN.
Rev. Merrilyn Teague
It is a great joy for me to be back in Nepal,
serving alongside our Nepali brothers and sisters!
These past 17 days have been filled with challenge,
adventure, gratitude and excitement, both observing
what The Lord is doing here in Nepal, as well as
discovering how our Nepali Christian leaders, are
serving Jesus with joy and fervor. My first week
was spent teaching the Word of God, Spiritual
Warfare, at Duwakot to 68 young men, in our
Mens Bible College!
Today, at CHITWAN, at
our Ladies Bible College, completing one week,
teaching 35 young ladies same. In regard to our
16 BES, where 174 of our Christian Teachers are
educating and reaching 3,000 children, as their school
students, from Lower LKG to Grade Six, here are
two new testimonies, which amplify the value of our
joint partnership of our overseas Donors, as well as
reminding us all of the great gift of literacy, we are
giving our school children, teaching them to read!
VALUE OF EDUCATION
After Church, in praying for many needy
people, amongst them was a new Christian lady, who
has been suffering from spiritual demonic attacks,
since believing that Jesus is the Christ! There are a
number of Christians who have been daily praying and
ministering to her! The Lord showed me that she
needed to read the Word of God, to know Who
Is Jesus and Who Jesus is in her, which is the

message of the Book of Ephesians. Asking her family

to encourage her to read Ephesians, I learned that she
is illiterate and cannot read! Fortunately, her daughter
can read and is a Christian. So, I have encouraged
them to daily read of her victory in Christ, in the Word
of God, which is her inheritance as a believer, even a
new believer!
This situation vividly reminds me of the high value
we place on Education, in order that our children can
read and eventually have the privilege of reading the
Bible! Today, the Bible is still the most read book

in the entire world! It tops the list! Hallelujah!

However, here in Nepal, we are aware that today
43.4% of the entire populations of Nepal are still
illiterate, they cannot read or write! However, our
3,000 students, attending our 16 BES are learning
to read and to write English too! Teachers, fellow
brothers and sisters in Christ, do not grow weary
of your vocation as a teacher, teaching your school
children to read and write, is a powerful tool to put in
their hands. I pray that our children will want to read
the Bible and discover who is Jesus !
TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN OF HIM MUCH
IS REQUIRED (Luke 12:48b)

your School Donors, that JEHOVAH JIREH will
provide all their needs and bless their children too. Let
us pray for each other, that our Lord Jesus Christ will be

We are the Children

We are the children
Citizens of Nepal
Playing and reading are the rights of ours,
We are the future builder of our country.
We are the flower,
Lets not pluck it up, let it bloom.
We have rights to read and write,
Lets do hard labor and be good.
As a blossoming flower,
We are the children.
We have the rights to play and read,
Lets always glorify our country.
We are the rising Sun,
And the blossoming flower.
Lets all get good education,
We are the future builder of our nation.

Laughter, the best medicine!

Once, a teacher was teaching the students of Class-V
about the art of drawing.
After the teaching he gave them homework saying,
Class, this is the homework for you. Note it down.
He strictly warned each child, Do not draw and write
here and there on your copy and make it dirty. Bring
your homework neat and clean.
Next day, everybody brought their homework and
showed it to their teacher.
But one student took out his copy and gave it to the
teacher saying, Sir, here is my homework.
Teacher got very much angry seeing the copy and he
shouted at him, Where is your homework? Is this
your homework? Is this blank copy your homework?
The frightened student replied, Yes Sir, you only had
told us not to write here and there on the copy and
warned us not to make it dirty but to bring it neat and
clean. Therefore, I have brought my homework neat
and clean without writing here and there. This is my
homework.

BELIEVERS ENGLISH SCHOOL KOHALPUR,

BANKE DISTRICT
Believers English School, Kohalpur is one the schools that the Department of Education, a ministry of Believers
Church has established in Nepal in the last nine years with the intention to provide quality education to the
children of this community.

GEOGRAPHY, DEMOGRAPHY AND

ECONOMY
Believers English School Kohalpur is located in the Banke
District in the Mid-West Region of Nepal in the middle of
kohalpur Bazaar (Terai region). The climate is subtropical
and the temperature varies between a maximum of 36C
and minimum of 6C. A neighboring city Nepalgunj is on
South (17 km), and further 6 km is the Indian border.
Mixed group of people lives here. The Chettri, Tharu,
Brahmins and other group of Nepali people in minority
have settled here from different parts of Nepal. People
of this place depend upon seasonal agriculture product,
livestock, government work and small industries too.
It is a financial hub of seven districts of Mid-Western
Nepal. Until 2001, there was system called feudalism
(Halya and Kamaya). The lower groups of people were
forced to work in the proprietors land for their living.
Tharu people live around our school and they are very
strict in their religion, tradition and culture. Still Dowry
system prevails in this community. Majority of them are well
settled. Since it is a financial hub people are aware of
Education.

IMPACT
Believers English School renders its service to the local
community by providing quality education to the needy
children. It has not only lifted the name of the church high
in the society but the school as well. Many Sunday Schools
were established and a few families have accepted Jesus
through school. Our teachers take initiative in gospel work
and help the pastor in all the activities of the local Church.
One of the most distinct features that we rarely find in
other schools is that our teachers are not just jobholders but
also committed and God fearing Christians. God-fearing
teachers are sowing Gods word into the students heart
every day. The students who pass their primary level from
our school and join another school have done excellent
performance in the school. The teachers time to time
counsel the parents and encourage them to send their
children to schools. Due to this, the local people have
understood the importance of education and now throngs of
408 students come to this school.

AIMS

To improve and render quality education in the school by adding well- qualified, and basic requirement
amenities for the students
To ensure that every child is educated socially, morally and mentally
Giving preferential option to the needy in education
Developing/ renovating the infrastructure and implementing scientific tools to make it suitable place for
education.
To share the love of Jesus to the people of this particular area.

were given to them also.
In view of the fact that Annual Day is the last day of years
performance and achievement in the school we, therefore,
particularly organized by inviting parents in handing out
the results and Annual Progress Card in the presence of
the crowd.

Believers English School, Nakalbanda is located in

Nakalbanda, Kakarvitta Mechi Nagar Municipality, and
Eastern Nepal. It lies in the plain of south, just 5 km away
from Indian border namely Panitanki. It is in a narrow
valley, which is also known as Inner Tarai.
A mixed group of people populates this place.
Mongolian
people
like
Rai,
Limbu,
Tamang,
Magar
are
the
main
residents of this place. Indigenous people like Uram and
Santhali are also settled here since long time. They work
in Tea gardens. These groups of people are dominated by
other groups of people and have been fighting for their
rights. High caste people like Brahmins, Chhetris, are also
common here.
A Believers Church, with good numbers of followers of
Christ, exists here as a candle in the darkness showing
the light and leading people to Christ. The importance of
having school in such a needy place cannot be emphasized
enough.
On 3rd April, 2014 Believers English School, Nakalbanda
observed Annual Day function. Fr. Darshath Khadiya was
the Chairperson, whereas, Pr Bimal Rai was the chief guest
from Birtamod Diocese.
To make the occasion meaningful and memorable, we
invited Principals from adjoining schools. There were about
528 people, who attended the program. Gautam Pradhan a
senior teacher welcomed the crowd with warm affection,
followed by opening Prayer and national song from the
students was sung. The entire program was led by Keshab
Limboo.
To make the annual day a worth mentioning one,
the schools students performed a variety of cultural
dances, sang songs and a few students presented speech in
English too. Furthermore to make it more impressive and
blissful 100 meter race was conducted for the students
fathers and for mothers biscuit eating contest was done. The
busy day with a range of events flavored the arena making it
fabulous. Those who came first, second and third, gifts

The school Principal presented the one years school report

and followed by giving away the results to the students by
Fr. Dasrath Khadiya, Pastor Bimal Rai and Pastor Bijay
Ghatani. Prizes were also distributed to the first, second
and the third students of each class.
As the school has classes up to five only, valediction
program was also done for class five students with words of
support and gifts. They expressed their heartfelt thanks to
the entire school and promised that they would do the best
and execute well in their studies continually.
The principal of Ganga Memorial English School, who
is the Chief Guest on the occasion, expressed, I am much
grateful to the Believers English School family, though
this school is small and with pathetic infrastructure yet
the school is giving quality education which we need to be
proud of it. He also said that he wished to support and
help the school in the days to come.

A poor family and a metal box

Once upon a time, there lived a man with his
wife in a tiny village called Nakalbanda in Jhapa district,
Eastern Nepal. They lived in an old hut. They were very
poor. They did not have enough food to eat. Sometimes,
they ate rice which was given to them by other people. At
home having no plates they had their food on tree leaves.
They did not have any work. They used to go village to
village wandering and in search of work however, no one
dared to provide them any.

Frequently they used to go begging and trying
their luck to find a place to work. However, seeing the
couple dirty and untidy no one bothered to give them work.
People did not have right view on them. Many times
when the Sun set, and the night fell, they slept anywhere.
Since they did not have anything, no one thought of
thieving them. In the morning, they got up and started the
day as usual.

As the time passed by, the wife became pregnant. After some months, she gave birth to a baby boy on
the way. They named him Aaron. Though, lots of pain

and struggles, they somehow

managed to continue their lives.
As the boy was growing, he was
becoming an obedient, kind
and good boy. He helped his
parents in small work which he
could do.

rich man. While they were digging the field in order to sow
paddy seeds they happened to find a metal box. And when
they opened the box they saw money and gold coins. This
treasure changed their life completely, from beggar to
rich. Village people were amazed to see their life. With the
money they built a big house and they lived there happily.
They also admitted their son in Believers English School.
He was brilliant and clever student and always stood
excellent in exams and other activities. Hereafter, they
lived a happy life with all the comforts.

Top 5 Characteristics and Qualities of a Good Teacher

Simon Dass
A good teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. - Henry Adams.
Every teacher wants to be a good teacher, but what
is this myth about being a good teacher? Who is it?
What are the characteristics of a good teacher? And
how can you become a good teacher?
Teaching jobs are often lucrative and satisfying for
people who love to teach. I am a teacher too, though I
do not think myself as a very good teacher, but I know
one thing that majority of my students do love me,
and I guess this is the point where good things start to
happen.
I was thinking about what are the characteristics of a
good teacher and how can I become a good teacher? 3. Knowledge and Teachers Education:

1. Friendly and Congenial:

I think the most important characteristic of a good
teacher can have is to be friendly and congenial with
his students. It is a plus point for a teacher, if his
students can share their problems with him, without
being afraid or hesitant. I think students have
always thought their teachers as their enemies (in a funny sense though :p). With this
mentality, they can never be close to each
other, and besides that how many teachers did you like
who were NOT friendly, and were rather arrogant and
rude?

4. A Good Communicator:

One of the very important characteristics of a good

teacher is his communication skills. He should be a
very good speaker. This characteristic will benefit a
teacher in several ways. For example:
i) If his communication skills are good, he can convey
his lectures with better skill and results.
ii) If a teacher is a good speaker, his class strength
increases automatically. People love to hear a
person who can speak well enough. There is always a
shortage of good speakers in the world.

TESTIMONY

BES Hile Gautam Bishwakarma

Every child longs to have a father and a mother, wants

to be around them and parent around him/her. She/he
wants to be loved, cared and be provided with gifts and
a hug or kisses from his/her parent. However, things
do not go well with every child.
A boy of eleven year was born in a beautiful hilly
region of Hile under Dhankuta district eleven years
ago. The place was not developed as it is today, there
used to be no houses, shops and vehicles. Things have
changed a lot, people are happy and lots of vehicle
movement can be seen with amazing progress. People
have been blessed due to hard work, jobs and business,
nevertheless, for some; life is still hard to try climb up
the lifes ladder. In the same scenario when people are
moving are falling like a house built of cards.
The boy, whom I was talking about, is Gautam
Biswakarma. He is the only son of an ailing
mother Sita BK. He is studying in Hile Believers
English School with full scholarship. He is in class-II
and much disciplined good in studies and talented
student liked by all. He attends Sunday school
regularly. He comes from a low caste and a backward
community. Still people discriminate low caste people
in various ways. He now lives with his mother. It was
love
marriage and with lots of dream and assurance his
father and mom came to stay together. Life went on
well for some time and after a year they were blessed
with a baby boy, Gautam. Both father and mother were
happy of having a son and counted luck in their family,
however, as the day passed by the love for each other
grew cold, and began to live a selfish life. Their love
marriage started to turnout to hatred life.
Finally, the husband leaving his wife and only son,
went to India ten years back in search of job and has
never come once, to see his wife and his son up to now.
Since then mother is working hard to bring up his son.
She works in a tea garden as a labourer and supports
her small family.
I had a lot of dream and never thought that life would
be so unfair with me. When my husband was there ten
years back he and I made a lot of dreams for our

family. He even said, I will educate my son and live

happily and things will go well. I dreamt the same
dream what my husband dreamt for our family. I chose
the wrong man to dream a delusion not a dream in
reality. It hurts me so much when past life gets recalled.
It hurts me a lot when my son asks where my father
is. Where has he gone? Is he not coming back again? I
have nothing to hide. I tell him your father will never
come back. I dont know where he is and what he is
doing. It hurts when my son asks me about my
husband and I dont know how my son feels because
I see him listening to me silently. I think it hurts him
too. These are the words from a lone mother. Due to
the tension and hurt it has affected her life so much
that now she suffers from psychological problem. If life
is so hard for her what would be for the growing son?
Just imagine!
Just a few months ago, when his mother was she
plucking tea leaves all of sudden got injury and from
that day onwards she was unable to go to work. Now,
the family is going through a very difficult time.
Unable to work to support her family and no one is
there to help them. He doesnt know what fatherly love

sons doing excellent in studies. She is grateful to the
school. I have a dream to see my son doing excellent
but I cant help him nevertheless he is doing great by
your love and support and I thank you so much and
this what I can give, expresses by the mother to the
church and school. Believers Church people often meet
her and share good news to her. They also pray for her
family and hope that God Almighty may wipe her all
agony and bring ecstasy in her life.
God is great! The impact is very small but it can
engrave a big impression in anyones life which will
never be forgotten.
