REMOVING - REFITTING : THE CONVERTER AND ITS SEAL

URGENT : If raising the vehicle on a lift, wheels hanging, remove the cap of the LDS fluid reservoir . refit the
cap of the LDS fluid reservoir, once you have lowered the vehicle .

Remove the gearbox (see the relevant operation) .

Fit the tools [1] .

Pull and disengage the converter (1) .

CAUTION : The converter contains a significant quantity of oil .

Extract the seal (2) , using tool [2] .

3. Refitting
3.1. Converter lipped seal

Clean the seal location .

Fit the new seal using tool [3] .

Visually check :
z Converter centring tool (crankshaft and converter side)
z The seal bearing surface on the converter
z The 3 fixing points
z The oil pump shaft, turbine and converter splines

3.2. Torque converter

N.B. : Do not add any fluid other than the oil recommended . before installing a new torque converter, fill it
partially with oil .

Lubricate the converter seal bearing surface .

Progressively engage the converter (1) using the tools [1] by turning it lightly in alternate directions to allow the
splines to engage more easily .
Check that the converter (1) has been correctly fitted , using tool [4] or [5] according to engine version .
Tool [4] is inserted into the aperture of the engine speed sensor . tool [5] is inserted into the starter motor location .
Refit the gearbox (see the relevant operation) .
