2-1
2.2 Capacity
The BTS3012AE has the following benefits in terms of capacity:
z
The BTS3012AE supports multiple transmission modes such as E1, STM-1, microwave,
and satellite transmission.
The BTS3012AE supports multiple topologies such as star, tree, chain, ring, and hybrid
topologies.
2-2
The BTS3012AE clock has four modes: fast pull-in, locked, holdover, and free run.
The Transmission, Timing, and Management Unit for DTRU (DTMU) of the
BTS3012AE uses the active/standby mode, which greatly improves the reliability of the
clock.
Issue 01 (2006-09-22)
2.5 Antenna
The BTS3012AE has the following benefits in terms of antenna:
z
The BTS3012AE provides two storage battery cabins: 48 V 150 AH cabin and 48
V 50 AH cabin. The BTS3012AE can be configured with a maximum of 200 AH
storage batteries. Under S4/4/4 site configuration, the internal 200 AH can supply
power for four hours when the traffic volume is in normal level.
The external storage batteries can provide up to 600 AH power. Under S4/4/4 site
configuration, the external storage batteries can supply power for more than four
hours when the traffic volume is in normal level.
Supporting 110 VAC dual-live power input, 220 VAC single-phase power input, and 220
VAC three-phase power input. The BTS3012AE supports a wide range of voltage and
frequency.
The BTS3012AE uses a sealed integrated structure. It complies with the International
Protection standard (IP55) in terms of water prevention and dust prevention.
In the high temperature environment, the temperature control unit dissipates the heat.
In the low temperature environment, the heater exchanger heats the BTS3012AE to
ensure a proper internal temperature for the BTS3012AE.
The BTS3012AE has a powerful temperature control system, which make it adapt to
adverse environments.
The environment monitoring system of the BTS3012AE enables you to monitor the
environments around the BTS in the remote end.
Issue 01 (2006-09-22)
2-3
2.8 Installation
The BTS3012AE is easy to install. It has the following benefits in terms of installation.
z
The BTS3012AE can be installed on the cement floor, building roof, or tower.
All the external cables are introduced into the cabinet through the bottom of the cabinet.
A space with 200 mm height is reserved for the cabling, which greatly facilitates the
maintenance.
Field installation personnel only need to secure the cabinet, install the external cables.
The simple and fast installation of the hardware and software greatly reduces the installation
time, and enables fast network deployment.

The 48 V 50 AH storage cabin of the BTS3012AE can be removed to form a 7 U space with
the reserved 2 U space. This space can be used to accommodate transmission equipment or
other equipment of the operators.

After the 48 V 50 AH storage battery cabin is removed, it can not be used as the storage battery cabin
again because it cannot meet the sealing requirements. That is to say, the cabinet shown Figure 3-2 (A)
can be changed to the cabinet shown Figure 3-2 (B) while the cabinet shown Figure 3-2 (B) cannot be
changed to the cabinet Figure 3-2 (A).

DPMU
Monitors the PSU, storage batteries, and the internal environment of the
cabinet.
Inputs 6-route external Boolean values and outputs 2-route Boolean values.
PSU
Converts the external power into 48 VDC, and then supply the 48 VDC
power for each BTS3012AE module.
Storage
batteries
Supplies power for the BTS3012AE when the external power supply fails.
Managing and monitoring the internal environment of the cabinet, the power supply
system, and the charging and discharging of the storage batteries. Reporting the
monitoring results to the DTMU.
Collecting the environment parameters such as the temperature, humidity, smoke, and
water immersion sent from the sensors, and then reports the result to the DTMU. The
DTMU processes the reported results and then sends the results to the OMC.
Keeping the BTS3102AE at a proper temperature. The heat exchanger heats the
BTS3012AE and the fans dissipate the heat for the BTS3012AE. When the temperature
exceeds the threshold, the system generates alarms.
3-8
A single BTS3012AE cabinet under full configuration has a maximum of 12 TRXs, that
is, 6 DTRUs.

Redundancy Design
The BTS3012AE uses a redundancy design. The key clock bus, control bus, data bus, and the
DTMU modules use 1+1 backup mode. The transceiver mutual aid is also supported.
System Monitoring
The BTS3012AE can automatically detect and diagnose faults in the hardware or software
and report them through alarms. It can also detect environmental status and report
abnormalities in time.
6-2
Issue 01 (2006-09-22)
6 Reliability
The power supply system has the power environment monitoring system, which
performs the following functions:
When the external power supply fails, the internal storage batteries of the BTS3012AE
can supply power for several hours. An alarm about the failure of the external power
supply is sent to the OMC to prompt for proper handling.
The BTS3012AE uses a distributed power supply. The DC/DC power modules operate in
N+1 redundancy mode. When a module fails, an alarm is sent to the OMC. You can
easily replace the faulty module because the DC/DC is hot swappable.
The power supply has a lightning protection function and a protection function against
voltage variation.
The BTS3012AE provides power failure protection for programs and data.
The boards of the BTS3012AE provide protection against excessive voltage and current.
Task Monitoring
When the software is active, the task monitoring function can monitor any possible fault in
the software or hardware. In addition, detected faults can be reported. Task status and system
abnormalities can also be monitored.
Data Check
The system can perform regular or event-driven checks on data consistency, restore the data
consistency selectively or preferably, and output related logs and alarms.
