ENGINEERING GRAPHICS
UNIT - 1
1. Construct an ellipse, with distance of the focus from the directrix as 50 mm and
Eccentricity as 2/3. Also, draw normal and tangent to the curve at a point 40 mm from the
directrix.
2. Draw a parabola whose focus is at a distance of 50 mm from the directrix. Draw a tangent
and a normal at any point on it.
3. Construct a hyperbola when the distance of focus from the directrix is equal to 35 mm
and eccentricity is 4/3. Also, draw normal and tangent to the curve at a point 40 mm from
the directrix.
4. Construct a conic when the distance between the focus and the directrix is 50 mm and the
eccentricity is 1.75. Draw a tangent and normal at any point on the conic.
5. Construct a cycloid given the radius of the generating circle = 30 mm. Also draw a
tangent to appoint on the cycloid.
6. A coin of 40 mm diameter rolls over a horizontal table without slipping. A point on the
circumference of the coin is in contact with the table surface in the beginning and after
one complete revolution. Draw the path traced by the point. Draw a tangent and normal at
any point on the curve.
7. Draw an involute of a square of side 30 mm. Also draw the tangent and normal at any
point on the curve.
8. Construct an involute of a circle of radius 30 mm. Also draw a tangent to a point on the
involute.
9. Draw an involute of a circle of 40 mm diameter. Also draw a normal and a tangent to it at
a point 100 mm from the center of the circle.
10. A coir is unwound from a drum of 30 mm diameter. Draw the locus of the free end of the
coir for unwinding the angle of 360. Draw also a normal and tangent at any point on the
curve.

UNIT 2

1. A line CD measuring 80 mm is inclined at angle of 30 to HP and 45 to VP. The point C


is 20 mm above HP and 30 mm in front of VP. Draw the projections of the straight line.
2. A line AB 70 mm long has its end A 35 mm above HP and 30 mm in front of VP. The top
view and front view has a length of 45 mm and 60 mm respectively. Draw its projections.
3. One end of a line 70 mm long is 10 mm above HP and 20 mm in front of VP. The other
end is 40 mm above HP and 65 mm in front of VP. Draw the projection and find true
inclinations.
4. A line QR has its end Q 20 mm above HP and 25 mm in front of VP. The other end R is
45 mm above HP and 55 mm in front of VP. Distance between the end projectors is 60
mm. Draw its projections and also find the true length and true inclinations of the line
with HP and VP.
5. A line measuring 75 mm long has one of its end 50 mm in front of VP and 15 mm above
HP. The top view of the line is 50 mm long. Draw and measure the front view. The other
end is 15 mm in front of VP and is above HP.
6. One end P of a line PQ, 80 mm long is 10 mm above the HP and 15 mm in front of the
VP. The line is inclined at 40 to the HP and the top view makes 50 with the VP. Draw
the projections of the line and find its true inclination with VP.
7. The true length of line is 100 mm. It is inclined at 50 to HP and 20 to VP. Mid-point M
is 60 mm above HP and 45 mm in front of VP. Draw its projection.
8. One end of the line CD, 70 mm long, is 20 mm above the HP and 15 mm in front of VP.
It is inclined at 40 to VP and 50 to HP. Draw its projection.
9. A line EF 60 mm long is in VP and inclined to HP. The top view measures 45 mm. The
end E is 15 mm above HP. Draw the projections of the line. Find its inclination with HP.

UNIT 3
1. A Hexagonal prism, side of base 25 mm and axis 60 mm long, lies with one of its
rectangular faces on the HP, such that axis is inclined at 45 to the VP. Draw its
projections.
2. A pentagonal prism, side of base 25 mm and axis 50 mm long, rest with one of its shorter
edges on HP such that the base containing that edge makes an angle of 30 to HP and its
axis is parallel to VP. Draw its projections.

3. A pentagonal pyramid of base side 30 mm and axis length 60 mm rests on HP on one its
base sides such that the highest base corner is 20 mm above HP and its axis parallel to
VP. Draw its projections.
4. A hexagonal prism of base side 30 mm and axis length 60 mm rests on HP on one of its
base corners with the solid diagonal passing through that corner is perpendicular to HP.
Draw its projections.
5. A cylinder of base diameter 30 mm and axis length 60 mm is resting on HP on a point in
the circumference of the base with its axis inclined 45 to HP and parallel to VP. Draw its
projections.
6. A pentagonal pyramid side of base 25 mm and axis 55 mm long lies with one of its slant
edges on HP such that its axis is parallel to VP. Draw its projections.
7. A hexagonal prism side of base 25 mm and axis 50 mm long rests with one of its base
corners on HP such that its base makes an angle of 60 to HP and its axis is parallel to VP.
Draw its projections.
8. A pentagonal pyramid side of base 20 mm and axis 45 mm long rests with one of its
corners on HP such that the base is inclined at an angle of 60 to HP and one side of the
base is perpendicular to VP. Draw its projections.
9. A cylinder of diameter 40 mm and height 60 mm is resting on the ground on its base. It is
then tilted such that a solid diagonal is vertical. Draw its projections.
10. A cone of base diameter 50 mm and axis length 60 mm is resting on HP on a point on the
circumference of the base. Its base is inclined at 50 to HP and perpendicular to VP. Draw
its projections.
11. A cylinder of base diameter 50 mm and axis length 70 mm is resting on HP on one its
generators with its axis inclined at 50 to VP. Draw its projections.
12. A hexagonal prism of base side 30 mm axis length 60 mm is resting on HP on one of its
base sides with its axis inclined at 40 to HP and parallel to VP. Draw its projections.
13. A hexagonal pyramid of base side 30 mm and axis length 60 mm is resting on HP on one
of its base edges with the face containing the resting edge perpendicular to both HP and
VP. Draw its projections.
14. A pentagonal pyramid of base side 30 mm and axis length 60 mm is resting on HP on one
its corner with its axis parallel to VP. Draw its projections when the slant edge containing
the corner is vertical.
15. A cone of diameter 40 mm and height 60 mm is freely suspended from one of its base
points such that the axis is parallel to VP. Draw the projections.

UNIT 4
1. A square prism of base 45mm side and axis 70mm height is resting on the ground on its base
with its vertical faces equally inclined to the VP.it is cut by a plane, perpendicular to the VP and
inclined at 45 to the HP and meets the axis at a point 25mm from the base.Draw the sectional
plan and add another top view on an auxiliary plane parallel to the cutting plane.
2.A cube of 60mm side is cut by an inclined plane such that its true shape is a reqular hexagon.
Draw the plan, elevation and true shape.
3. A pentagonal pyramid base side 40mm and altitude 75mm rests with its base on HP and with a
side of base parallel to VP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 35 to
the HP and bisecting the axis. Draw the sectional plan of the pyramid and the true shape of
section.
4. A square pyramid of side of base 25mm and height 60mm rests on HP on its base with a base
edge 45 inclined to VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to the VP and inclined 45 to HP . The
cutting plane meets the axis at 25mm from the vertex. Draw the elevation, sectional plane and
true shape of section.
5. A Cylinder of diameter 50mm and axis 60mm on its base on the ground.A plane cuts it
perpendicular to the VP and inclined at 45 to HP. The cutting plane meets the axis at a distance
of 15mm from the top.Draw the sectional plan and true shape of section.

6. A hexagonal pyramid base side 40mm and altitude 75mm rests with its base on HP and with a
side of base parallel to VP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 35 to
the HP and bisecting the axis. Draw the sectional plan of the pyramid and the true shape of
section.
7. A hexagonal prism of base 30mm side and axis 60mm height is resting on the ground on its
base with its vertical faces equally inclined to the VP.it is cut by a plane, perpendicular to the VP
and inclined at 45 to the HP and meets the axis at a point 25mm from the base.Draw the
sectional plan and add another top view on an auxiliary plane parallel to the cutting plane.
8. A hexagonal prism of base 30mm and axis length 60mm is resting on HP on its base with two
of its vertical faces perpendicular to VP .It is cut by a plane inclined at 50 to HP and
perpendicular to VP and meets the axis of prism at a distance 10mm from the top end.Draw the
development of the lateral surface of prism.
9. Draw the development of the lower portion of a cylinder of diameter 40mm and axis 70mm
when sectioned by a plane inclined at 40 to HP, perpendicular to VP and bisecting the axis.
10. A square pyramid of base side 25mm and altitude 65mm rests on the HP on its base with the
base equally inclined to the VP. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to the VP and inclined at 30 to
the HP meeting the axis at 25mm above the HP. Draw the development of the lateral surface of
the square pyramid.
11. A pentagonal pyramid of base 30mm and height 80mm stands vertical with one base edge
parallel to VP. It is cut by a plane inclined at 45 to HP

bisecting the axis. Draw the

development.
12. A hexagonal pyramid side of base 30mm height 80mm stand with the base on HP.A through
circular hole of 30mm diameter is drilled through the pyramid such that the axis of hole is
perpendicular to VP and intersects the axis pf the pyramid 20mm above the base. Draw the
development of the lateral surface of the pyramid.
13. A cone base diameter 50mm and axis length 70mm rests with its base on HP. Sectional plane
perpendicular to VP and inclined at 35 to HP bisects the axis of the cone.Draw the development
of the truncated cone.

UNIT 5
1. Draw the isometric projection of a pentagonal prism of side of base 30mm and height
60mm, resting on its pentagonal base with one rectangular face parallel to VP which is
sectioned by a cutting plane inclined at 40 to the base and passing through the axis at a
height of 40mm from the base.
2. Draw the isometric projection of a hexagonal prism of side of base 30mm and height
60mm, resting on its pentagonal base with one rectangular face parallel to VP which is
sectioned by a cutting plane inclined at 40 to the base and passing through the axis at a
height of 40mm from the base.
3. A cylinder diameter and 75mm height stands on HP with its base.It is cut by a sectioned
plane inclined at 45 to HP and perpendicular to VP . Draw the isometric view of the
truncated position of the cylinder when the cut surface is clearly visible to the observer.
4. A pentagonal pyramid of base side 30mm and axis length 65mm is resting on hp on its
base with a side of a base perpendicular to VP.It is cut by a plane inclined at 30 to HP
and perpendicular to VP and passes through a point at a distance 30mm from the apex.
Draw the isometric view of the remaining portion of the pyramid.
5. A cone base diameter 50mm and height 70mm stands on HP with its base . It is cut by a
cutting plane inclined at 30 to HP cutting the axis of the cone at a height of 40mm from
its base.Draw the isometric view of the remaining part of the cone
6. A square prism of base 30mm and height 50mm rests with its base on the ground and one
of the rectangular faces inclined at 30 to picture plane .The nearest vertical edge touches
PP.The station point is 45mm in front of PP,60mm above the ground and opposite to
nearest vertical edge that touches PP. Draw perspective view of the prism.
7. Draw the perspective projection of a hexagonal prism lying on the ground plane on one
of its longer edges such that one of its rectangular faces is perpendicular to the

ground.The axis of the prism is inclined at 30 to the PP.The station point is 110mm in
front of the PP,95mm above the ground plane and lies in a central plane which bisects the
axis,for the above mentioned prism,side of base is 25mm and height 75mm.
8. A rectangular pyramid of sides of base 30mm,20mm and height 35mm rests with its base
on the ground such that one of the longer base edges is in the PP and therest behind it.The
station point is 30mm in front of the PP.50mm above the ground and 30mm to the left of
the axis of the pyramid. Draw the perspective projection of the solid.
9. A hexagonal prism of base 30mm and height 50mm rests with its base on the ground and
one of the rectangular faces inclined at 30 to picture plane .The nearest vertical edge
touches PP.The station point is 45mm in front of PP,60mm above the ground and opposite
to nearest vertical edge that touches PP. Draw perspective view of the prism.
