Elements that should not miss

Students name, students ID, EEs title, country,
date.
It must give a very clear idea about the EEs
topic. It must be precise, delimitated and it
must suggest a cause effect relation.
A paragraph describing the background and
generalities that frames the research problem
itself. It is written in third person and the
problem is stated in a very clear way. It is
advisable to complete this description citing the
EEs objective. Its extension is 15 lines,
approximately.
Brief description of the EEs main sections,
specifying what contents each one of. It is
written in third person and its extension is of 8
lines, approximately.
Paragraph which specifies the end of the work.
If you don't want be so obvious with the plot of
the EE, unless express very clearly what was
concluded. It is written in third person and its
extension is 5 lines, approximately.
The total amount of words in the abstract
should not exceed 300 and it should be
specified the exact number at the end. Lists it
with the number 2.
It is not mandatory
It appears immediately after the abstract.
Indicates the sections of the EE (starting in the
Introduction). The prec eding sections are not
included on it, and it should be listed with the
number 3.
Introduction, chapters, bibliography and
appendices are aligned in the same distance.
The internal contents of each of these sections
are aligned indented.

General
considerations

Describe in one or two paragraphs the history

and generalities that frames the research
question-problem. It is a bigger version of the
abstract and it should be very clear.
Description on how the previous framework that
presents an overview can be limited on a specific
topic. It should present a hypothesis or postulate
based on a cause - effect reasoning, and with
time - space specifications. Indicates that the
subject has been delimited to be manageable in
4,000 words.
Short, clear and precise wording of the EE
objective, ensuring that there is concordance
with as indicated in the summary.
Short paragraph indicating, clearly and
specifically, why the topic is relevant and
important.
Short paragraph indicating, clearly and promptly,
the reasons that make the research relevant.
The extension of the introduction should not be
too much, since it counts as part of the 4,000
words. It is suggested that only takes one page
and is listed with the number 4 . Although, the
three aspects of the summary are included in the
introduction, this goes first and with enough
amplitude.

Conclusions

First paragraph

Recommended having two chapters with title.

The first of them is itself a theoretical framework
focused in the research problem background, so
the second one, will be more analytical,
experimental and innovative. It is important to
have two or three paragraphs that denotes , in
some detail, what is the topic about. (The
amount of chapters is a recommendation, of
course may vary according to the EE subje ct and
the structure that each student gives to it).
At the beginning of the first chapter should,
again, indicate the main objective cited in the
introduction, so will reiterate that the r esearch
problem-question is clear and well focused,
according to the extension of the EE and within
the proposed scheme. This will raise the
approach of the topic, especially in the
theoretical aspects. In this first chapter, you
must show sufficient and qualified information,
at the same time such information is woven with
the problem, with an appropriate language to
the subject. This implies not include very simple
or questionable assertions. It is important to
include a good quantity of quality references,
especially in this first chapter.
The second chapter should include the analytical,
practical and/or experimental part, which
generates specific data that will help to achieve
the hypothesis or objective. Special attention
should be taken in forms of collecting relevant
data: Science experimental and mathematical
precision bearing and in the social sciences by
giving value to the sources (references) when
this section includes
surveys or interviews,
should be validity to the instrument, sample and
the source. It is also important to include in the
text the pictures or graphics that support the
arguments. The student must demonstrate that
these data are treated properly, with skill and
understanding. Appr eciates the audacity of the
student, but more importantly a consistent and
analytical development.
During all the EE, must be checked that the all
arguments are properly justified.
APA, Chicago, MLA.
The conclusion must be separated from the body
of the EE and should start with a brief paragraph
that specifies very clearly research conclusion,
which in turn has to be consistent with the
hypothesis or objective in the introduction.

Overall assessment

Immediately after the main conclusion, is made a

count of the main arguments made during the
extended essay and how each of them is leading
to the next. He no longer argues, is just a recap
in a paragraph of 5 or 6 lines.
Is at once, writes a paragraph of 3 to 4 lines in
which it reiterates that the method used and the
scheme followed has been relevant to the
research problem; i.e., it is necessary to achieve
the purpose of a well defined EE.
Finally, shown in a final paragraph aspects that
have not been solved in this research and would
find out in a later work; mentioned the new
questions.
Includes all the consulted sources (use reference
styles). Any disagreement between the sources
used at work and in the bibliography, be added
or be omitted, is penalized.
Material which is essential for the EE should be
included in the body of the research; those are
usually graphics, diagrams, images or tables. But
if it is dispensable, is sent to the Appendix and
its not graded. If a material is essential to the
argument and is sent to this section, it will be
penalized with C and D criteria.
It has less than 4,000 words. The level of
cleanliness and presentation is excellent.
Illustrative material is well presented and
exploited. The contents page, topics and
subtopics are well detailed. All pages are listed.
The r efer ences have the same style. The
bibliography includes all sources. The Appendix,
if applicable, contains the data needed to
support the text.
The EE is outstanding and shows dedication,
initiative, scope of understanding, intuition,
inventiveness and creative talent. It is very
important to give a go-ahead to the end in terms
of order, cleaning the wording and spelling.
