What we discovered to our horror, as the Australian


Standards Committee doing some enquiries into
test data, was that the ionisation smoke alarms
are allowed to go to 50-60% (smoke) obscuration
per metre, dangerously high, totally unacceptable.

It is not clear to the Board from the evidence


available that ionisation detectors do not
achieve the level of performance required
for warning occupants in the event of a fire.

Hard copies of the World Fire Safety


Foundations C.A.N. report, were sent
by registered mail, to 11 ABCB senior
staff and all 15 ABCB Board Members
in February 2007. The report addressed
concerns with life-safety and legal
issues with the ABCBs ongoing failure
to adopt a critical amendment to
Australias smoke alarm standard
AS3786-1993, into the Building Code of
Australia.
