Article by Colin Fernandez with the title is Strike threat after PE teacher is sacked for wearing
trainers in class. The article was written in 30 December 2008.

Objective
The objective of the articles are mentioning about why do the PE teacher being sacked after
wearing trainers in the classroom.

Summary
Andrian Swain the 56 years old teacher who has worn a tracksuit and trainers to school for 30
years was dismissed because he refuse to follow a ban on trainers after the acting headteacher
decided he was flouting the dress code. Mr. Swain worked with special needs children at St
Pauls Way Community School in Bow east London United Kingdom was worn the tracksuit
bottoms and trainers to school throughout his 30 years teaching career without any complaints.
He precisely said that he has been victimized as he is a union representative for National Union
of Teachers that usually consistently worked to protect union members against bullying and
intimidation. The schools local education authority has backed the sacking by claiming teachers
should not wear clothing, children are not allowed to wear themselves. Then Professor Margaret
the Talbot OBE of the Association for Physical Education said that the teacher should not been
have been sacked at all. The spokeswomen for Tower Hamlets council said that staff in school
are expected to set a good example to the students they teach. Its vital that standards are set in
terms of appearance and behavior, and staff are asked not to wear items of clothing that student

are not permitted to wear themselves. In 2006 report by Ofsed, around 80% from 900 pupils
comprehensive as satisfactory are from Bangladeshi families was in one unusual policy of school
uniforms that female pupils at the school are allowed to wearing the Jilbab with all black
garment covering head and body, but not the face. At last, the decision followed consultation
between the school, Tower Hamlets Council and trade union and the number of staff has the right
to appeal.

Reflection
What did I understand from this article?
The articles can be understand as the problem that occurred when the 56 years old teacher,
Andrian Swain has been sacked by his headteacher after fails to follow the exact dress code
given. Andrian Swain was 30 years teaching experience said that he was victimized as he is a
union representative for the National Union of Teachers that consistently worked to protect union
members against bullying and intimidation. He said that he wasnt guilty for just not following
the dress code because he is the PE teacher and he was singled out and fired while other staffed
has regularly worn banned items. He will do the strike action if he is not reinstated.

How is the content discussed in the article significant or relevant to me?

The article shows that the Ministry of Education in Malaysia has step up the clearly sent the
dress code for teachers in school that PE and PH must follow the SPI (Surat Pekeliling Ikhtisas).
All teachers must follow the dress code or will be taken action until been sacked by MoE.

Can relate it to my past experience?

The teacher that teaching PE and PH in my school since I was in year one until I became a
teacher always wearing the right dress by following the dress code given by MoE. The latest SPI
precisely make a dress code that teacher can the collar shirt, a tracksuit bottom, sport shoes and
white stoking. Teachers can wear it until the end of working period.

Critics
The problem of the maybe the ministry of education in United Kingdom shows that they are not
sensitive with the problem that could teacher have Maybe because the article was written in
2008, its not saying that right now the teacher still to follow the dress code in that years. The
headteacher must not to imminently take serious action to Mr. Andrian Swain because of his
action not to follow the dress code given but can be helping by consultancy first or take the
problem in the meeting of the school. Mr. Andrian have a right in Union of teacher that he was
joining and that can be helping him to reinstated back to be a teacher again.

The article was written by Cikgu Gopal in his Blog with the title is Panduan Pakaian PJ Untuk
Guru dan Murid. The article was written on September 2010.

Objective
The objective of the articles are mention about the reflection from anyone after releasing the
dress code for teacher and student in PE in school by following the SPI (Surat Pekeliling
Ikhtisas) that given by the Malaysian Ministry of Education.

Summary
The anonymous said about the habit of teacher that always been lazy to teach a PE in school by
just playing football all days in PE period, but with full of branded sport shoes and clothing
materials, He hope that teacher will be remind to do not forget their working code. Cikgu Gopal
after that saying about the teacher that only do that sins because they are not the real PEs
teachers with the mindset said that PE are so easy to teach. The ambition of PE and PH are being
forget and their responsibility to their students. Sometimes teacher been admonition because they
have worn the trainers and then they frustrated to worn it again. Other anonymous said about his
child not given a properly learning experienced by his teacher because always not teaching PEs
in the particularly and with appropriate learning following in the syllabus of PEs. Then said
again for teacher that do not taken seriously the responsibility that written in Education Act
321.para (A) will be punishing in disciplinary action to whom that crossed the line.

Gossraman then arguing about the problem cannot be settled just given the SPI. It also must have
the changing of the approach in PE. The ways the KSSR and KSSM are created is the solution
that good and rightful ways that we now endeavor. The most important is the mindset of teacher
that saying the PE is not important and easy to teach, or it is not important to anyone. SMK
Bandar Puchong Jaya (A) said about the laws or principle in PE that being setup by headmaster
that can be helping to react the PE teacher. Cikgu Gopal then stated that many teachers not
following the syllabus of PE to teach, because the just follow the student interest. Other
anonymous then saying about the headmaster or principle that not taking serious about the SPI
that been access to them. The consequence is student feel bored to wearing the trainers to school
because the always being asks to put back their standard cloth after PE.
Cikgu Gopal mentioning about SPI must being put inside the meeting minute and then hand over
it to school headmaster or principles. Administers are the one who will face the Nazir, JPN or
anyone in BPK about the problem that occurred after that. Jaika Anakangit stated about the
headmaster or principles that seeing the PE are not important then, teacher that not expert in
PEs being instruct to teach PE in school. He added about the important of PEs are highly
important than other minor subjects.

Reflection
What did I understand from this article?
The article stated about the SPI (Surat Pekeliling Ikhtisas) that been access to all school in
Malaysia about the dress code for PE teachers. Many of the viewers stated about that they dont
think that the SPI can be the result to helping the PE to get a better mindset by teacher in

teaching at school. Overall all the viewers are asking the teacher to following the syllabus in
teaching PE. Cikgu Gopal the authors always keep the viewers in a good conversation with
giving bright ideas at facts. The viewers also stated about the headmasters or principles must take
action following the SPI and supporting PEs teachers in school. They also saying that
administers of schools must implementing the genuine PEs teacher to teach the PE.

How is the content discussed in the article significant or relevant to me?

The article is so relevant and significant to me because Im a PEs teacher in the past years. The
problem to me as the PEs teacher before the SPI (Surat Pekeliling Ikhtisas) has handed to all
school; I always have to bring an extra casual shirt from home, then wearing it after PEs period
ended. It is really inconvenience for me and of course to all PEs teachers. The problem in
teaching of PE with following syllabus do have in school, because lately today, more than a half
of PEs teacher just following the student interest rather than fooling the syllabus instruction. It
happen in a school that every single teacher thinking that PE are not important because its
cannot give you a bright future not like studying science or mathematic in the classes.

Can relate it to my past experience?

As I was said in above explanation, it is really relate to my past experience. All teachers have
burden to be handle by them, but with the new SPI that being given, its really decreasing the
burden. With supporting of my headmaster at my school at Pasir Gudang, it rarely seeing teacher
that wearing kebayas or kurungs in teaching PE. Teacher are feel revive and the new SPI really
comfortable in the PEs rooms.

Critics
I really agreed about all that been mention in this article. Its really the things that happened in
Malaysia education scenarios right now. The SPI (Surat Pekeliling Ikhtisas) are step up to be the
new point of views that the MoE (Ministry of Education) are looking at PEs teacher burdens and
problems. They start to saw the important of having the PEs lesson in school. In Japan, they
have study to examines the views of students (7-18 years) related to Physical Education (PE),
based on a sample of 2,300 students in Japan (N=1266) and England (N=1034). The study
gathered data related to feelings towards PE, self-perception of ability, views of its importance
relative to other subjects, and understanding of the outcomes of participation. Reflecting earlier
work, this study found most students enjoy and value PE; younger students of both countries are
most likely to be positive about PE and more confident about their ability. Despite substantial
agreement between the two groups, significant differences were found between responses
relating to self-competence, and the importance attached to PE in relation to other subjects. Since
PE is an integral feature of young people's introduction to life-long physical activity, evidence
related to their views of the subject should be a matter of interest to policymakers and
practitioners.
The Malaysian Ministry of Health also start to get inside the PE in school by make an obligation
to all student with motto 1 student 1 Sport then they are decreasingly the high sugar food in
school canteen and so on.

Introduction
The article was written by PE Diva with the title is Musing From a PE Diva: Uniforms,
Inconsistencies, and Nike Basketball Shorts. It was written on September 2011.

Objective.
The article shows that Central Schools on Mars are not really have their tight act of dress code
around the school.

Summary
PE Diva (PEs teacher) said that they are really no consistent codes about teacher at her school.
She said about the principles came to her and said about distracted short that her worn that day.
PE Diva said about nothing is wrong about her appearance but then the principles said that she
must wearing something that below his knees. PE Diva also said about nothing are been
complaint about the short that she was worn over last year.
Then PE Diva said that her principles actually wanted her to change into dress clothes for her
one period a day of teaching PH in the classroom. She said that he cant change her cloth after
PE and then go to PH in classroom. Kyle after that comment about all teachers should dress for
whats appropriate to what they teach. They must wear something that appropriate such as a
tracksuit and trainers to teach PE until the end of working day.

Reflection
What did I understand from this article?
The article has to be understood by the needed of her principles to give the exact dress code for
PEs teachers. PE Diva about the problem that she had after being critics by her principles
because what that she was worn that day. She precisely said about anyone that has been
reprimanded for the attire and she need help for another PE teacher about attire code of PE
teachers.

How is the content discussed in the article significant or relevant to me?

The Malaysian Ministry of Education has step up to give the clearly and precisely dress code in
SPI (Surat Pekeliling Ikhtisas) to make us understand how important the appropriate dress for PE
in school. PE Diva is the one of thousand PEs teacher in the world that could not know what is
the appropriate and suitable dress for PEs teacher if there are no act PE dress code have been
given. It is such as a day before the MoE take action about the dress code of PEs teacher at
Malaysia.

Can relate it to my past experience?

It was the day that every PEs teacher in my school are arguing about what PEs teacher can
actually wear if their teaching PE at the field then go back in class to teach other subjects? They
are many opinion came from experience teachers the back to headmasters and lastly to PEs
teachers. Then come a day when PEs teacher being ask to bring two set of dress, put on it after
PE at the field. They said because it will be not comfortable for student when smelling teachers

smelly sweat. It was hard to teacher to run back to the toilet each time to put on the dress cloth
and then put back trainers and put back dress cloth again. After that, came the ideas that PEs
teacher can wear trainers until break period then put on the dress clothes.

Critics
I agreed with the author of the articles Ms PE Diva about her concerned about the right dress
codes that school should have in the recent time. The right dress code can help teacher to wear
the appropriate clothes and the same time satisfied the principles and headmasters. SPI (Surat
Pekeliling Ikhtisas) in Malaysia can be the guide for the PEs teacher like PE Diva to understand
the basic need in PE attire. Somehow, it is maybe can be changed to fill the will of PEs teacher
like PE Diva at United State. Maybe in Malaysia teacher must wear collar shirt with tracksuit
bottom and sport shoes including white socks, changing in there with colorful sock or something
like that.
