Study Objective: assess the impact of cattle grazing on grasslands in the Caribou-Chilcotan
region by looking at the reproductive success of vesper sparrows and western meadow larks.
Evaluating the Impact of Human Activities on Amphibian Diversity in Western Ecuador
Primary Researcher (January 2007- December 2007)
Designed and carried out 10 months of field research at the Bilsa Biological reserve in western
Ecuador. The aim of the study was to uncover the impacts of human activity (especially logging)
on amphibians diversity and composition across different habitats.

I worked closely with staff at the New Brunswick Museum, and in particular with Dr. Donald
McAlpine. I provided valuable specimens and the first amphibian tissue samples for the museum.

As steward of Hyla ParkCanadas first amphibian preserve my responsibilities involved
monitoring human activities in and around the park, contributing to management plans, and
educating the public about the parks history and its important inhabitants: frogs!
