In case you like this programme but you do not yet fulfill the language requirements (~50% of the
teaching is in German) or you just want to prepare best for your studies, you can take part in the
preparatory programme (see at the link list).
The postgraduate programme Master of Arts (MA) at the University of Applied Sciences Fulda is a degree
programme offered as a consecutive course with the aim of strengthening competence in two core areas:
1.

Students are enabled to implement a holistic leadership concept in the face of internal and
external effect parameters emerging in combination. The core basis to achieving this is the
embedding of instrumental detailed knowledge in an extended operational network.

2.

In addition, students learn to harmonise this holistic leadership concept with international
specific features on a purely operational as well as intercultural level.

Four European partner universities from countries of the European Union constitute the core of the
teaching consortium which offers students a three-semester course of studies with a Master of Arts in
International Management (MA) degree.
Consortium partners currently are the University of Kufstein (Austria), the ESCI Fontainebleau (France),
the University of Riga (Latvia) and as associated member, the School of Business Administration of West
Virginia University in Morgantown (WV, USA).
Studying one semester in Fulda, together with two semesters at WVU, students can complete a double
degree programme, obtaining the German MA as well as an MBA from West Virginia University.

Contents
The first semester tackles two levels of learning: on the first level methodical basics, especially for
the performance and presentation of international comparative studies are provided. Secondly,
teaching contents communicate an introductory, general overview of the framework for a holistic
corporate leadership in an international context in order to provide the basis for more in-depth
studies.
The second semester highlights the cross-linked interrelations in which classic operational areas of
function are integrated. The main focus lies on making the multi-dimensional impact of functionspecific processes and decisions transparent.
In the third semester procurement of holistic leadership potential is methodically/didactically finalised
in a training scenario. By means of a computer-aided decision-simulation-model, students are offered
a training field which allows them to practice decision processes anticipating cross-linked
comprehensive parameters in the competitive environment of the consortium.
Upon completing all modules, students will have developed the prerequisites facilitating the
preparation of an appropriate Master's thesis.
As teaching contents are standardised the programme allows flexibility for students to undertake
short-term stays at member universities. Joint lectures used for the presentation of the results of the
comparative studies and following group discussions are processed regularly by means of a videoconference system.

Requirements
In order to be accepted into the Master of Arts in International Management program, applicants
need to have a degree (Diplom, Bachelor) with a focus in the field of Business or Economics

(Industrial Engineering with a business emphasis or Business Information Systems are also
acceptable). Proof of at least 180 ECTS Credits is required in order to finish the MA program within 4
semesters. If a student can provide evidence of at least 210 Credits at the time of enrolment in the
degree program, it would be possible for the student to complete the degree program within 3
semesters. Studies completed at a university of cooperative education (Berufsakademien) are
acceptable as long as the concentration is in the field of Business studies.
Students are required to provide evidence of German and English language knowledge, as a
significant number of courses are in English while the others are in German.
The following are acceptable when providing evidence of English knowledge:

TOEFL Test 500 points paper based, 173 points computer based, 61 points internet based
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 5,5
positive attestation from a DAAD-Test.
Native English speakers and students who have graduated from an English-speaking
university do not need to fulfil these requirements.

The following are acceptable when providing evidence of German knowledge:

Native German speakers and students who have graduated from a German university do not
need to fulfil these requirements.

In order to submit a complete application, prospective students need to include a CV/resume which
should provide information about the applicant, his or her educational background, as well as
language knowledge and professional experience. At least 80% of the credits from a previous degree
program must be provided at the time of application in order to be considered. The student must
have graduated and be able to supply proof of
this before enrolment into the program.

StudyPortals Scholarship - Terms and Conditions

Official Rules for EUR1,000 StudyPortals Scholarship

Participation constitutes acceptance of these rules. Every 3 months, a different Scholarship
Recipient will be awarded a EUR 1,000 scholarship as a contribution to the costs related to
his/her academic studies. From all valid entries submitted, a Scholarship Recipient will be
selected. The Potential Scholarship Recipient will be required to prove eligibility by
providing the required information including full name, date of birth, address, and a proof of
enrolment at a higher education institute. If these requirements are not fulfilled within 10
days, an alternate Potential Scholarship Recipient will be chosen.
The StudyPortals Scholarship is open only to individuals who are at least 18 years of age
and are currently an enrolled and active student.

1. Defitions:
a. Student
A student is a person that is currently registered for and studying a full programme of at
least 1 academic year at a higher education institute that is recognized by the competent
authorities in the respective area.
b. Higher Education Institute
A higher education institute can be a university, university of applied sciences, college, or
business school with the following properties:
It admits as regular students only persons with a high school diploma or equivalent; or
admits as regular students persons who are beyond the age of compulsory school
attendance.
It can be a public, private, or non-profit organization.
It is accredited or pre-accredited and is authorized by the competent authorities in the
respective country, state or other area of operation.
c. Applicant

An applicant is a user that has a registered account

on www.mastersportal.eu, www.bachelorsportal.eu, www.phdportal.eu,
orwww.shortcoursesportal.eu and has filled in the scholarship application form that can be
found on the account overview no more than 6 months ago.
d. Potential Scholarship Recipient/Scholarship Recipient
A Potential Scholarship Recipient is the person that is selected by StudyPortals to receive
the next StudyPortals Scholarship. ThePotential Scholarship Recipient will become
the Scholarship Recipient after the eligibility has been verified and StudyPortals has
notified the Potential Scholarship Recipient that the scholarship will be granted.
e. Scholarship Provider
The Scholarship Provider organises and administrates the Scholarship. All decisions of
the Scholarship Provider are final and binding in all matters related to the scholarship.

2. Scholarship Provider:
This scholarship is provided by StudyPortals, Torenallee 45, 5617 BA Eindhoven, The
Netherlands, hereafter referred to as theScholarship Provider.

3. Eligibility:
Application for this scholarship is open only to people who are at least eighteen (18) years
old at the time of entry, and a currently enrolled and active student at a higher education
institute. Participation constitutes applicants full and unconditional agreement to these
Official Rules.

4. Duration:
Entries will be accepted starting Monday, August 1, 2013 and will continue for an
unspecified duration.

5. Cancellation:
The scholarship may be cancelled at any time by the Scholarship Provider through an
announcement on its website. No additional form of notice, written or oral, to the individual
participants or potential participants will be given.

6. Application:
People who wish to apply for the scholarship should register an account on the
StudyPortals websitehttp://www.studyportals.eu/scholarship. Furthermore they should fill in
the required Scholarship Application Form found on their account overview when the
registered applicant is logged in to his/her account. The Applicant has to provide
the Scholarship Providerwith requested details. The application is valid for 6 months.
An Applicant is automatically entered into the scholarship selection process for 6
consecutive months, starting with the month of the application. After 6 months a new
application has to be submitted if the applicant wants to be considered for the scholarship
again.

7. Application Terms:
By applying, applicants agree to comply with StudyPortals Terms of
Service http://www.studyportals.eu/about/terms/. The applicant is asked to leave a review
of their current study experience in the application. The applicant agrees to let StudyPortals
publish this review on www.stexx.eu.

8. Awarding the scholarship:

The Scholarship will be awarded based on the quality of the application. All fields of the
application form have to be filled. The application has to clearly show that the student is
willing or planning to study abroad or is currently studying abroad for academic purposes.
The application has to clearly show the intention to spend the received scholarship on
purposes related to their academic career (e.g. comprising but not limited to tuition fees,
travel costs that are directly related to the academic career, realization of a research
project,...).

9. Announcing the Scholarship Recipient:

On the selected dates, the name of the Potential Scholarship Recipient will be posted on
StudyPortals Facebook Pagehttp://www.facebook.com/StudyPortals and an email will be
sent to the Potential Scholarship Recipient.

10. Verification of Potential Scholarship Recipient:

An applicant will not receive any grant unless and until their identity and eligibility has been
verified and the applicant has been notified that the verification is complete. The Potential
Scholarship Recipient will be required to provide evidence of eligibility in order to claim
his/her scholarship. Therefore, they are required to provide their name, date of birth,
address, and a proof of enrolment at a higher education institute within 10 days after the
initial notification. If the Potential Scholarship Recipient cannot be contacted, or fails to fulfil
the eligibility requirements within the required time period, the applicant forfeits the grant.

11. Scholarship Grant:

A one-time cash grant in the value of EUR1,000 will be awarded to one Scholarship
Recipient every quarter of a year. For the duration of the StudyPortals Scholarship initiative
every 3 months a new recipient is selected. The Scholarship cannot be substituted and is
not transferable or assignable. The Scholarship Recipient will be contacted through the
email provided at entry. If response and eligibility requirements are not received within 10
days, an alternate Potential Scholarship Recipient will be chosen. Scholarship
Recipients will not be eligible for further scholarships in the future.

12. Publicity:
Except where prohibited, application for the scholarship constitutes Scholarship
Recipient consent to, publish his/her name, photo and country of study on the StudyPortals
websites, and other communications channels, comprising but not limited to newsletter
articles, social media posts, and community announcements.

The Verein zur Frderung internationaler Studierender an der Hochschule Fulda e. V. and
the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are providing 3 scholarships for
graduating international students at Hochschule Fulda.

Amount and Duration of scholarships: 3 Scholarships of 250 each for the duration of

About Work during and after your studies Information for

international Students from non-EU countries
New rules regarding working during and after studying have been effective since August 1,
2012. If you're a citizen of a non-EU member state, this information may be very important
for you:
Maximum duration of studies:

You're required to complete your studies (Bachelor and Masters degree) within the duration
of 10 years

If you're going to work on a doctorate after that, you should have completed it within five
more years

Working while you're studying:

For many students it's a necessity to earn their living through a job while they're studying.
Effective immediately, it is allowed to work 120 full or 240 half days per year without a work
permit.

Mandatory internships that you need for credit don't need to be considered for that time
frame

Other internships are permitted, but will count towards the 120 full or 240 half days, even if
the internship is unpaid

Working after your graduation:

After you've graduated from a German university, you're entitled to a residence permit for
18 months in order to find an appropriate job

During this time you may work as much as you want

Also, during this time you don't need a work permit

Adequate job after your studies:

Once you've found a job that is in accordance with your qualification, be it a bachelors or
masters degree, or a doctorate, you can apply for the "Blue Card EU". In order to be
approved you need to present a work contract, earning you at least 44,800 annually (for
some professions the minimum salary is 35,000)

If you've worked in an adequate job for at least 21 months and have German language
skills on at least level B1, a settlement permit can be issued (if you don't have the required
German skills, after 33 months)

Family members who are also looking for a job don't need to apply for a work permit either

1. General information
International students may seek employment as students in Germany. However, such
employment is subject to certain legal rules and regulations which are discussed below for
various student groups at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. These rules and
regulations concern only students who do not come from EU member states. Students from
EU countries and Switzerland are free to work in Germany and are not subject to the same
limitations as students from other countries.

The Electronic Residence Permit (eAT)

PREREQUISITES FOR THE ISSUANCE OF A RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR STUDENTS IN

GERMANY
(University Studies must be the main purpose of residency)

1. A residence permit may be issued for

a. a preparatory language course or the attendance of the Studienkolleg (one-year
preparatory course for international students for applicants without university entrance
qualification)
b. studies at a public or an officially recognized university or similar college
2. Requirements for the Regular Issuance (according to 5 German Residence Permit
Law)
a. valid passport
b. proof of financial resources in the amount of currently 8040 per year or 670 per month
(health insurance included; only students under 30 are able to be insured by the students
public health care system. Older students must either pay the regular fee of the public
health care system or be privately insured with a plan covering the same services.)
c. If there is a previous reason for exclusion or deportation in the applicants file, the
application of residency will be denied
d. Proof of the required student visa upon entry into the country
3. Especial Requirements (according to 16 German Residence Permit Law)
a. University Admission Letter (in case of extension proof of enrolment must be presented)
b. In case of visa renewal a proof of enrolment and in some cases a transcript of records
and/or a certificate concerning the expected length of studies must be presented

4. Duration and costs of Residence Permit:

- A Residence Permit for less than one year costs 100 ,
- A Residence Permit minimum of one year, maximum of 2 years costs 110,
- A renewal costs 80
In case of renewal proof of full-time enrolment must be presented. The average
duration of the degree programme shall not be exceeded by more than 3 semesters.
In case of missing or unsuccessfully completed courses in which the student
received
a failing grade, the residence permit can be denied or withdrawn. The maximum
duration of studies is 10 years (including undergraduate and graduate studies,
language courses and preparatory courses).
5. Cancellation of Residence Permit: gilt nur fr das vorgesehene Studium, meaning the
Residence Permit is only valid for the specific study programme for which the student is
enrolled (not for studies in general). In case of change of the study programme or the
institution, a new permit must be applied for.
6. A change of degree programmes is only permitted during the first three semesters. After
three semesters a change is only possible if the total time spent to complete a course was
not exceeded and the student can show proof of having seriously pursued his studies. In
case of a change of the degree programme, the student must apply for a new residence
permit.

7. During the study programme the residence permit cannot be issued for other purposes
(exception: in case of a legal claim).
8. A Permanent Residence Permit will not be issued.
9.

International students are only allowed to work 120 days full-time or 240 days part-time
(meaning 4 hours per day) per year. In addition, students may have a job as a student
assistant at the university. Mandatory internships may be completed as a part of the degree
programme requirements (university certificate must be presented) and do not count
towards the 120 full or 240 half days. Non-mandatory internships are permitted but count
full towards the 120 full or 240 half days, regardless if paid or unpaid.

10. After successful completion of the degree programme, a residence permit valid for up to 18
months may be granted. The purpose of the permit is to seek appropriate employment in
Germany. During this year employment is allowed.

2. Working without a work permit

Tutors and student assistants
Tutors and student assistants do not require a work permit if they perform tasks which are
primarily in the area of research and teaching assistance ( 9 Nr. 8 ArGV). At Fulda
University of Applied Sciences, this applies to tutors and student assistants who are
employed in the academic departments of the University. However, tutors and student
assistants employed in the administrative departments of the University (Central Study
Counselling, International Office, University and Hessian State Library, Knowledge Transfer
and Further Education Office and Central Administration) may require a work permit (see
Section 3 below).
The 120-day rule
Students from countries outside the European Union may accept temporary employment if
the duration of employment does not exceed three months or 120 full days or 240 half days
per year. Such employment does not require a work permit. Such employment may be at
the University (in the administrative departments) or outside the University. Such
employment may be undertaken during the study semester as well as during semester
vacation ( 9 Nr. 9 ArGV), provided that employment does not exceed 15 work hours per
week during the study semester.

3. Working with a work permit

All employment exceeding 120 full days or 240 half days per year which is not primarily in
the area of research and teaching assistance requires a permit from the Alien Office
(passport stamp) and a work permit or other approval from the Federal Employment
Agency.
Alien Office permit
The Alien Office permits employment exceeding 120 full days or 240 half days in the
following cases:

for part-time employment as a student student at Fulda University of Applied Sciences

(Ziff. 28.5.3.2 AuslG-VwV) in the administrative departments Central Study Counselling,
International Office, University and Hessian State Library, Knowledge Transfer and Further
Education Office and Central Administration. Such employment may not exceed 15 work
hours per week during the study semester. Students from outside the EU who work in the
administrative departments of the University or in the Central Administration also require a
work permit from the Federal Employment Agency.

in financial emergency situations beyond the student's control, provided the student has
pursued his or her studies diligently and the University certifies that successful completion
of the course of study is to be expected (Ziff. 28.5.3.4 AuslG-VwV).
Federal Employment Agency work permit
Before granting a work permit, the Federal Employment Agency must determine whether
German citizens or EU citizens in Germany are available to accept the employment. This
so-called precedence test procedure is also followed for part-time student employment
(student assistantships) at Fulda University of Applied Sciences requiring a work permit, i.e.
in the administrative departments of the University and the Central Administration. The
Federal Employment Agency in Fulda requires from 7 to 10 days for this procedure.

4. Employment not permitted

Participants in the DSH Preparatory Courses
Participants in German language courses preparing students for regular studies may not
accept employment for the duration of the language course ( 9 Nr. 9 ArGV, Ziff. 28.5.3.3
AuslG-VwV).

aside your lectures and seminars, to learn something interesting, see something new, and

Intercultural training with sleepover at the Wasserkuppe
We are riding a bus to a hostel near the Wasserkuppe, the highest mountain in Hesse.
You will have the chance to participate at an intercultural training, which helps you to solve
daily life challenges and problems you may have within your study course.
In the evening we will go out for a night walk. The next day we will go for an easy hiking
tour to the Wasserkuppe, which will take around an hour. After we arrive there you can go
for a ride at the summer toboggan run, watch gliding planes or visit the gliding plane
museum.
In the afternoon we will ride back to Fulda on the bus, after an exciting and informative
weekend.

Until the 1990s the borderline between the Federal Republic of Germany (BRD) and the
German Democratic Republic (DDR) ran near Fulda. The NATO-Observation -Point The
hottest Point in the Cold War was placed in Rasdorf, about 30 minutes northeast of Fulda.
For reminding the separation of Europe, the Cold War and its meaning for the people, there
is a memorial and a museum we are going to visit.

Snow excursion to the Wasserkuppe
We take the public bus to the Wasserkuppe and we will spend our day here. You have the
possibility of tobogganing, building a snowman or just playing in the snow. Of course you
can also rent skis if you know how to ski. Grabbing a bite is possible at numerous snack
bars. Please wear really warm clothes! Bring your semester ticket and 10-20 for rental
equipment and food.

DSH Intensive Course (from level B2)

We offer DSH intensive courses for students at level B2:

DSH intensive course in the winter semester, October to February (300 hours)

DSH intensive course in the summer semester, March/April to July (250 hours)

Aims and contents of courses

The DSH class in the summer semester 2012

All future students who have not acquired their university entrance qualification at a German-speaking school are required to take the German
Language University Entrance Exam (DSH) or an equivalent test.

The DSH tests your ability to speak and write German well enough to cope in a German-speaking academic environment. The level required by
German universities is usually C1 or DSH-2.

Participants of the DSH intensive course study German mainly by working with authentic academic listening and reading material.

On completing the DSH intensive courses, all participants can register for the DSH exam.

A DSH taken at Fulda University of Applied Sciences is recognized by other German universities.

Admission requirements for the courses

Admission requirements for the DSH intensive course are:

Please apply as soon as possible if you are sure that you would like to and will be able to attend. The course is usually booked out well in advance
of the application deadline.

Optional Enrolment, Semester Ticket and Health Insurance

Course participants may enrol (immatrikulieren) for the semester and thus acquire student status. Enrolment is not compulsory.

Enrolled students receive a student i.d. and a "Semesterticket", which serves as a ticket for public transport in a specific area around Fulda (e.g.
Fulda-Frankfurt or Fulda-Kassel).

The semester ticket and enrolment cost ca. 280 euros for one semester. If you would like to use this option, please tick the relevant box on the
application form. We will then contact you and inform you about the procedure.

Important advice:

Prior to enrolment DSH course participants need to present a health insurance certificate.

An approved health insurance certificate is also necessary for the extension of your visa.
Please contact Eileen Schdel (eileen.schaedel@sk.hs-fulda.de ) to ask about approved health insurance plans. Health insurance costs ca. 70
euros per month.

Prior to Arrival: Visa and Room

The processing of your visa application may take quite a long while! Please apply for a place in our DSH course as soon as possible. This way you
will be able to apply for your visa and travel to Germany in time.

After you have sent us your complete application, it will take about a month before

we have checked your application (German skills, university entrance qualification),

we have sent you a confirmation and request to pay the course fee,

you have transferred the course fee,

the fee has arrived

and we have been able to send you a definitive admission to the course, with which you can apply for a visa.

Please ask at the embassy or consulate in charge how early you will need to submit your application. Only pay the course fee if you have a realistic
chance to obtain your visa to start the course in time. On paying the course fee you reserve a place in our course, so that reimbursement of the
entire fee is not possible after the course has started. (See the application form for details regarding reimbursement).
