Icosit KC 220/15 and

Icosit KC 220/60

Product description:

Icosit KC 220 is a solvent-free, cold curing 2-pack transparent epoxy resin binder.

Fields of application:

May be used for many applications within the construction industry.

Icosit KC 220 adheres to concrete, natural and man-made stone, fibre cement,
wood and various synthetic materials.
Icosit KC 220 is particularly suited for fixing and grouting anchor and holding down
bolts, e.g. for rail fixing on concrete bridges, tunnels, train washing installations,
repair and inspection pits, turntables, base plates fo direct fixation and machine
bearings. Bonding of prefabricated building components or pressure and shear
resistant filling between same. As a bonding bridge between old and green
concrete.

Mixing ratio:

Icosit KC 220/60:
45 parts by weight A to 55 parts by weight B respect.
53 parts by volume A to 47 parts by volume B.
Icosit KC 220/15:
80 parts by weight A to 20 parts by weight B respect.
78,5 parts by volume A to 21,5 parts by volume B.

Packaging:

25, 8, 1 kg net.
Cleaner 5: 10, 5 and 1 litres.

Storage:

In unopened containers and dry environment (room temperature) 1 year, in opened

containers 3 months.
Part A (resin) and B (hardener) turn slightly viscous at low temperatures and may
crystallize; therefore it is recommended to store at room temperature. However,
both components can be made serviceable again by a warm water bath
(+50 +70 C). Prior to mixing they must have cooled down to +20 +25 C.

Particulars and technical data:

Specific gravity:

Icosit KC 220/15 approx. 1,1 kg/ltr

Icosit KC 220/60 approx. 1,4 kg/ltr

Physical Data:

Compressive strength: approx. 120 N/mm2

Flexural strength: approx. 35 N/mm2
Modulus of elasticity: approx. 4000 N/mm2
These values depend on proportion and granulometry of the fillers.

Icosit KC 220 is to be applied to dry surfaces. Contaminated surfaces must be

cleaned prior to application. Oil and grease can be removed with Cleaner 4,
provided they have not penetrated into the substrate. When applying to concrete,
loose particles or laitance must be removed by blastcleaning or similar.
The contact surfaces must be dustfree. Good adhesion to steel structures can only
be achieved by blastcleaning to Sa 2 1/2 as per DIN 55 928, part 4.

Preparation of material:

Icosit KC 220 binder is produced by thorough mixing of the two components in

the correct mixing ratio (see table). Mixing should be carried out using a power
stirrer (only for smaller quantities hand stirring may be sufficient). It is important
that the walls and bottom of the container are thoroughly scraped to ensure a
homogeneous mix. When splitting larger pack sizes, accurate measurements are
essential. We supply calibrated cups for producing small quantities.
Primer/bonding bridge:
The ready mixed Icosit KC 220 is applied to steel, concrete etc. by trowels or flat
stiff bristles brushes.
When used as bonding bridge, it is important that mortars or fresh concrete are
applied wet on wet.
Epoxy mortar:
To produce mortars according to the table below, kiln dried quartz sand should
be employed.

Mortars should be mixed in a compulsory (creteangle) or similar mixer.

Small quantities can also be mixed by hand in plastic containers. Rubber gloves
should be worn, in order to protect hands when kneading the synthetic mortar.
The best results are achieved with spherical rather than angular shaped
aggregate. These are easier to use and compact.
Application implements:

We can supply measuring cups for Icosit KC 220. To be bought through the
trade:
Rubber gloves, plastic buckets 5 - 10 ltr, plastic vessels 20 - 30 ltr, flat brushes
(radiator brushes), trowels, joint trowels.

Application temperature
of substrate:

Application and surface temperature should not be below +5 C. Where

necessary suitable covering and infra-red heating should be provided during
application and curing (at least +5 C).
Prior to application Icosit KC 220 and the aggregate should be stored at
approx. +20 C.

Pot life:

Icosit KC 220/60: at 5 - 10 C approx. 90 minutes,

at 20 C approx. 60 minutes
Icosit KC 220/15: at 5 - 10 C approx. 20 minutes,
at 20 C approx. 15 minutes.
After mixing Icosit KC 220 must be applied within the above stated times. After
that the material turns viscous and finally unserviceable. Never add solvents,
which would result in shrinkage cracks.
Pot-life depends on the temperature, higher temperatures reduce the pot-life and
smaller batches may be more practical. Do not overmix, as the developing heat
will reduce pot-life.

Curing time:

Icosit KC 220/60: at 20 C approx. 18 hours

Icosit KC 220/15: at 20 C approx. 8 hours
at 5 - 10 C approx. 20 hours

Cleaning of implements:

Cleaner 5.
Mixing and application implements must be cleaned immediately after use and
at intervals during application. Cured material can only be removed mechanically
or by burning off.

Precautionary measures:

Component B of Icosit KC 220/15 and KC 220/60 falls under the dangerous

goods regulations (class 8).
During application observe safety hints on containers as well as local regulation.
Adequate ventilation must be provided in confined areas such as pits, shafts, etc.
In a liquid state the product and the cleaner contaminate water and should not
get into drains, water and ground.
Remnants of cleaner and/or coating materials must be removed according to
regulations.
Soiled skin should be cleaned with plenty of water and soap, possibly with
diluted vinegar, followed by an application of barrier cream. In the event of skin
irritation a doctor should be consulted immediately.

of accidents.
