STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (SPO); MA CF + NASPE Standard(s); Task #s where

content is taught; Task # where objective is assessed:
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
P) Demonstrate a nitro ball serve by working with a partner in an activity consecutively altering the force
and trajectory of the serve. (S1.H1.L2, MACF 2.9)
C) Name 2 skill cues to remember when passing in a nitro ball when asked by teacher in the closure.
(S2.H2.L1, MACF 2.8)
A) Respect the provided equipment used in all of the lesson by rolling excess nitro balls off to the side
when not being used. (S4.H5.L1, MACF. 2.26)
Check each objective: Is it specific? Is it achievable? Is it developmentally appropriate?
TEACHER PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES - During the lesson the teacher will:
1. Frequently check for understanding to make sure the students are on task and paying attention.
2. Desist behavior without losing valuable learning time for entire class.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the students
in this class?
1) Have partner system with any students on I.E.Ps or 504s (student helpers)
2) Have students be cautious of other groups working on same court as their own group.

TIME
0:00-6:00

SEQUENCE OF LESSON
Introduction: students will come over to white board to
start intro of unit and play video of nitro ball rules.
-

6:00-9:00

Must serve underhand

Each team allow 3 hits
Must bounce before another teammate
contacts the ball.
Ideal bump, set, spike,

Focus: Passing
Stop and start on whistle, put nitro ball down when
teacher is talking.
Safety: stay within court boundaries. Be aware of
other groups nearby. Anytime nitro ball needs to be
out of group it is to be rolled off to side of court.

ORGANIZATION

REFLECTION
Video was a great way to
begin the unit and get the
students engaged in the
unit. Asked students of
prior experience with
Nitroball. Most students had
prior experience to the
game last year.

Did a nice job of reflecting

and critically analyzing why
we would use certain
passes in certain situations.
Students did a nice job of
reflecting with game like
strategies.

CFU- Quick Rule check

9:00-11:00

Walk outside

30 sec

Transition: Students will have 10 seconds to

choose a partner they work well with. Each group
will receive a nitro ball from the teacher, find their
own space on the court and wait for further
directions.

2-3 min

Instant activity: With a partner students will simply

pass nitro ball back and forth anyway they want.
(Discover different ways) Any way they want to
pass besides kicking the ball.

30 sec

Transition: Students meet at first net for first demo by

teacher with students.

5-7min

Activity 1: With partner students will pass back and

forth to one another using all different kinds of passes.

I made an adjustment with

grouping students
throughout the day.
Mentioning to students to
find groups and me placing
students in groups was
crucial to save activity time
but also to ensure students
didnt feel alienated.
Students used a guided and
discovery approach and on
their own discovered
different ways to pass.

One handed pass, two handed pass, high bounce

pass. Teacher will demo each pass with students.
Extension UP: Students further out the distance
between their partner remembering that it can only hit
the ground once. Make it challenging for partner.
Skills to remember: - Step to partner, momentum goes
towards partner.
5-7min

Students in most classes

were advanced so they
moved quickly through the
passing activities. Extended
most students upward by
having a challenge bump,
set, spike routine within
their group.

Activity 2: With groups on one side of the tennis court

net one group put ball to side. Now instead of one
partner should be a group of at least 4. Work on
several different kinds of passes within group.
Extension Up: Motivational objective see how many
passes can go around in the group without ball
bouncing more than once.
Extension Up: Team of four or more on one side
of net plays other group of net in passing game.
Each team has 3 passes and then hits over to other
side of net. When whistle blows see which court
accumulates most amount of passes back and
forth.

By the end of all classes,

groups were moving into
modified game situation

TIME
30sec

SEQUENCE OF LESSON
Transition: All Students meet to court one for brief
demo and explanation of final activity. Students will get
to choose their group of 3 for final activity.

5-7min

Activity 3: Passing style challenge. Each group will be

allowed to come up with their 3 hit routine prior to their
performance. Once they are ready Mr. Monroe will
simulate a toss to the other side of the court. The group
of 3 will use different types of passes and finish with a
spike or shot over. Students can show a unique set of
passes along as they use one arm, two arm, or high
bounce pass. Remembering rules that ball cant
bounce twice and each side is only allowed 3 hits.

30sec

Transition: Students put nitro ball away line up for

closure.

5min
Closure: How many hits are allowed on one side? (3
hits)
Does the ball have to bounce before another teammate
can make contact with the ball? (Yes).
Why might we use different kinds of passes? (based
where the ball is, height, speed).
5-8min
Change/Walk to gym.

ORGANIZATION

REFLECTION

Voice projection was good,

being outside with 50
students the projection
needs to be loud.

Recapped with students on

which strategies worked
and did not work. Offered
strategies and situations
and student did a great job
responding with alternative
strategies.
