Three: Authenticity

*Feeling Authentic
-Authenticity: the ability to choose activities in life that we genuinely want to do rather than be
pushed into tasks and jobs we dont like.
-Exceptional people dont just work because they crave for money or achievement or praise.
They work because they LOVE what theyre doing.
-do the things you need to do to get ahead. Let your goals drive you.
*Linking enjoyment and performance
-The more you enjoy your work, the better your performance.
-Be HAPPY and earn MORE.
*Find pursuits that make us feel good
-The more you can align your work to what makes you feel authentic, the more prosperous you
will be.
*Spotting experiences of flow
-flow -moments in which were so immersed in what were doing that we dont notice what
else is going on around us.
-When you experience flow, you may:
+ Feel in control
+ Experience a sense of challenge
+ Lose track of time
+ Feel fully involved
+ Want to tell other people about it
*Finding the intersection of interest and talent
- Authenticity is the ability to find activities that we find rewarding.
- Exceptional people dont just do what they enjoy they also do what theyre good at.

*Taking alternative perspectives on talent


~ The eight eclectic talents that we may possess:

Verbal-linguistic talent including skills in reading, writing, and communicating through


words.
Logical-mathematical talent an aptitude for performing calculations, analyzing puzzles,
deducing patterns and rules in data, and solving logical problems.
Visual-spatial talent being able to picture objects and manipulate them mentally.
Bodily-kinaesthetic talent having finesse with our bodies and hands.
Musical talent aptitudes to do with rhythm, music, and hearing.
Interpersonal talent being sensitive to other peoples moods and motivations.
Intrapersonal talent sometimes called emotional intelligence. It is a flair for
understanding our own thoughts, emotions, and motivations.
Naturalistic talent a flair for working with the natural world, including not only animals
and plants but also their natural surroundings.

*Shaping a satisfying and successful career


- try to use job crafting or personalizing your job.
-Three different tactics to sculpt out their jobs:

Altering the boundaries of the task by taking on more tasks or expanding the scope of
tasks that they enjoy.
Modifying their relationships at work, to alter the nature or amount of their interactions
with other people.
Changing their perception at work, by reframing the work, thinking of the bigger picture,
or consciously making an effort to imbue the work with a sense of purpose.
