Abstract
The objective of this research was to study the debt conditions of non-commissioned officers
Kanchanaburi by examining the influence of individual personal factors and financial plans with relative
incomes as variables. The data was collected by questionnaire and tested for content validity and
credibility with Cronbachs method on 30 samples. The result indicated reliability rate at 0.890. The
sample group of this research was comprised of 375 non-commissioned officers stationed in
Kanchanaburi, and the statistics used in data analysis were frequency, percentage, average, and Baron and
Kennys regression analysis.
The outcome showed: of all respondents, the majority, 91.20%, were male, since the sample
group was military officials, which had more male than female; 39.70% were between 26 - 35 years of
age; 54.70% were married; 49.90% were between lance corporal to sergeant; 31.70% earned between
10,001 - 15,000 baht per month; 22.4% had average monthly expenses between 10,001 - 15,000 baht;
and 74.4% had their finance planned, but not in detail or written down. The levels of financial
management by aspects, rated from highest to lowest, were; 1) monitoring and adjusting financial plan, 2)
adhering to a financial plan, 3) setting financial goals, 4) defining and assessing alternatives, and 5)
evaluating financial status.
The hypothesis testing discovered that factors affecting the debt condition of non-commissioned
officers were; age, as older non-commissioned officers tended to be more in debt; marital status, as single
non-commissioned officers tended to be less in debt than married ones, and divorced or separated
individuals were not so different from others; and rank, as officers between lance corporal to sergeant
were the lowest in debt, and master sergeant third class first class officers and special master sergeant
first class were not different. As to financial planning of individuals, it only affected the debt condition of
non-commissioned officers, but not influencing consumption in relation to income, as the variable of
individual financial planning is positively related to debt condition in a low degree.
Key Word: individual financial planning, consumption in relation to income, debt, mediation analysis
