A Spirit of Love Not fear

Lets Open in Prayer - Heavenly Father, as your dearly beloved children we invite and welcome
you. Holy Spirit come, reveal the Fathers love to us here today, set us free by his word! We can
do nothing without your presence; I ask that you would release your peace in this place so the
cares of this world would fall away, fall away so that we may all receive the next installment of
revelation right from your heart! Soften our hearts and prepare the way for conviction and
revelation, grant us a heart of repentance and pour out into our hearts your love. We desire your
RHEMA word here today Father I thank you for the wonderful opportunity to represent you
here today and for entrusting me with your word, may all I say be in line with your heart. Its all
for your Glory Daddy! For such a time as this you have filled me and now I ask that you would
spill me. As we take a closer step towards you, I pray we would lay hold of you and come into
possession of our birth rightful inheritance. It is in Jesus name we pray, Amen and amen!
What it was likeI was born in Ohio as the third child to parents who were 19 & 21 in 1962. I just turned 52.
It was about 1966 when our family moved back to Minnesota. During these few years we lived
in an apartment and then with my grandparents for a year while my mom went to nursing
school and pursued a career while dad worked at UPS in the cities (a fifty mile drive each way)
needless to say we did not see our parents to much that year! Thats ok though because I
loved living at grandmas place.. G. Louise was my moms mom.
I remember washing day where gram came and striped the linens right out from under us and by
the time I was up they were drying on the lines in the breeze. Grandpa had a few cows and a
great big garden
He was involved in growing grapes for the U of M and was a winemaker. I was 7 and in the
second grade that year, we attended the church school. Gram was in the choir and brought us to
church regular and she read her bible every day. I can recall doing devotions with her in the big
comfy chair on the sun porch. We always said meal prayers there too, rote as they were. I really
had no concept of Jesus at this point in my life. Gram also was part of the quilting group and I
recall going a couple of times with her as we sat around this big frame and put stitches into the
quilt, it was so fun to roll it, now I can see it was a great analogy of us as believers and how
when we work together in the body we accomplish much more than we could on our own and in
a shorter amount of time. [Hindsight is 20/20]
The other significant thing that happened during that time was that men landed on the moon, it
was pretty cool. We moved to N Mpls the following year where I started in the third grade
On a family vacation to S. Dakota we saw the Passion Play and somehow I could feel the power
of God when lightning struck as Jesus was walking the road to Golgotha.

I do recall sitting on my front steps one day reading a tract, [Halloween] and going back in the
house and getting a pen to sign it, of course I did not have any formal training except a few
years later when I was sent to confirmation class in ninth grade all I learned there is that you
are baptized as an infant much less, married and then buried in the churchI never once heard
the gospel message, in fact I recall being told that I can choose to believe whatever I wanted to.
The upshot to attending this church is that this is where God introduced Dewey and I!
It was now the early 70s, Mom worked days and Dad worked nights and then mom worked
nights and dad worked days and so on I thought we were a normal family, (although I was
secretly jealous of the neighbors) we took vacations together every year to fun places, enjoyed
holidays together and my Mom even volunteered to teach Sunday School, but that only lasted a
short time as there was a disagreement about what curriculum to teach, so she left the church
and we became chri-easters(Easter and Christmas attendees) and we were told that if we
wanted to go to church wed have to ask dad to bring us.
In the next couple of years my Dad was on assignment and was traveling to other states for his
work. This was a very traumatic time in my life, although I knew he would come home, I hated
his leaving. As a tangible sign of his love for me he would always bring me home matchbooks
form where he was and so I started a match book collection (which I still have today).
I believe it was during this time of my life that the door opened for the spirit of fear along with
abandonment to enter my life. My 5th and 6th grade experiences were also very traumatic for
me.
By this time I had my first kiss with the neighbor boy, a crush on his older brother. This would
just be the beginnings of the promiscuity that riddled my young teenage years.
Junior High School. Ahhh, remember I said my gramps made wine and I told you I was a
thief yep, I stole his wine. A girlfriend and I (whose sister worked as a stewardess and
brought home little bottles of alcohol) would meet at the ice skating rink and share our drinks
and look for boys! This is also about the time I began to smoke cigarettes and was introduced to
smoking pot. Pot, alcohol and mood altering men became my drugs of choice, to ease the pain,
the fear of rejection and abandonment and of course to fit in whatever that meant. My parents
had even let us kids try their cigarettes and tastes of their drinks and so in my mind, they rubber
stamped the use of these things.
I even used to babysit for some people my dad worked with who would leave pot for the
babysitter as long we waited till after the baby was in bed!
It was in the summer of 1977 that I officially fell in love with Dewey. I was now 15 and old
enough to date according to mom; my birthday even fell on Homecoming that year! Yippee!
Dewey and I had only dated for a few months b/4 I told him I loved him {NY EVE} and then he
dumped me. More rejection entered the scene! My brother set me up with a guy from the
Wrestling team, I was a cheerleader and the captain at that. So I started dating him and
2

proceeded to tell him all about Dewey. He must have been desperate to have put up with
me he treated me like a queen. I hated it; he compromised his beliefs to please me
After 10 days in hospital from an overdose they told me I was an alcoholic. I said, Im 15, I
couldnt be an alcoholic.
I was young and in love so I convinced my parents to let me date Dewey again and that my
overdose was not his fault. Dewey proposed to me in writing in my yearbook the summer
before my senior yearI was 16. Dewey chose not tell his mom we were engaged to be married
and when we discovered we were expecting he also chose not to tell his family, so more
rejection entered. More fear of being unloved, unvalued, unneeded.
Now were married with 1st child, the 2nd, affairs began, more fear and rejection I felt something
wrong with meand him. Tried counseling. Got involved with my boys, scouts. More
affairs
This went on from the time I was 17, till I was approaching my 30th birthday. When my
family intervened and asked me what I was going to do about my alcohol use (they were
ignorant about the pot use and the extent of the adultery)
As you can plainly see ~ I was a cheating, thieving, lying, broken down, adulterous woman. I
stand before you this morning, to the glory of God, a changed woman, as my own Mother can
attest to.
What happened to bring about this change of heart- God got a hold of me!
GOT SOBER November 2, 1997 ~ 2 years later Dewey wanted a divorce
4 years later ~ I was invited to a 12 Steps for Christian Living Series
I was Born Again

DECEMBER 3, 1997 1:03pm

I have learned that people who run from their problems are seeking relief but end up in pain *
The people who seek to face their problems may experience pain, but will end up relieved!
Which will you choose?
When the pain of hanging on becomes greater than the pain of letting go
you will free yourself from you own man made prison!
When you run from suffering ~ that is the worst kind of suffering
SO EVERYTHING CHANGED ~ FOR ME! I talked, walked, dressed and began to think
differently. Now seventeen years later I am still being transformed into his image daily and so
will you as you seek after him.

What its like nowThat was 17 years ago. God has seen fit to clean me up, turn my life completely around, he has
set my feet upon the solid rock of JC. After my youngest son Jake died 10 years ago, he used
me to co-found Greater Works Ministries, a healing school where we taught what the bible says
about faith and healing. In 3 years we held 17 schools with just about 200 students! I have
seen many people healed and set free to live purposeful lives. I completed a three year
correspondence course through Rhema Bible School. Father has sent me on six mission trips
around the world so far. (Mom and Dad went) I have led at least 9 members of my family to Christ
and 2 years ago I became a CPM and became an ordained licensed pastor earlier this year and
here I am today! Isnt God good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that you know a little about me lets go to the word and get on with our day!

Our Theme for this Conference is: A Spirit of Love ~ not fear!
If you have your bibles today turn with me to 2 Timothy 1:1-6 and lets read together.
Our main verse is 2 Timothy 1:7

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and a sound mind.
A little back story here, Paul is writing this letter to Timothy, his ministry partner, a dear son in
the faith. Paul met Timothy when he was on his second missionary journey in Lystra. (Turkey)
Timothys grandmother (Lois) and his mother (Eunice) were believers, but his father was
Greek. In the Roman world, fathers had absolute authority over the family, and since Timothys
father was not a Christian, perhaps his home situation was less than ideal. Can you relate?
Obviously his mother and grandmother taught him about Jesus and grounded him in the faith!
(God wants to use parents and grandparents to pass on an eternal legacy to their children and grandchildren! Are
you praying for yours? ) In V. 5 Paul was persuaded that the same faith he saw in Lois and Eunice

was also in Timothy, it was genuine faith.

Like Timothy our faith needs to be genuine, not resting on our parents faith. When Paul left
Lystra, he took Timothy with him - and this began their mentor relationship that touched the
whole world.
In verse 6 Paul is reminding Timothy to stir up the gift of God which was inside of him (Are
you stirring up the gift of God inside of you? ) Stir up here has the idea of stirring up a fire to keep it
burning bright and strong. It means to kindle afresh or to keep in full flame We all know a
fire left to itself will burn out, fizzle out so we are here today to stir up, to kindle afresh the
gifts inside of you! Oh Father you are a consuming fire, consume us here today!
Timothy was a gifted and valuable man for the kingdom of God (just like you) but he seems to
have had a timid streak in him, which required Paul to repeatedly encourage him to be bold. At
least 25 times in these letters Paul emphasizes being bold, to not shy away from confrontation
and to stand up and be strong.

Lets look at what Paul is saying and define some words but before we do, lets commit this
time to the Lord through prayer.
PRAYER~ I thank you Father that you have hand picked each one of us to be here with you
today, I ask that you would quiet our hearts and minds as you wrap your arms around us. I pray
that it would be your voice that we hear, that your voice would be louder than mine. I pray that
you would open the eyes of our hearts, close our ears to distraction and open them to hear what
your Spirit would say. Your word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path, may your
anointing rest in this place so we may banquet at your table and drink deeply of your Spirit.
Thank you for freedom in this place to be truthful ~ set our hearts and minds at ease now as we
seek your face knowing you alone are good. Every good and perfect gift comes down from
above, today we receive all that you for us Father, and it is in the name of Jesus that we pray.
Amen & Amen!
Now, lets look at 2 Timothy 1:7 (our key verse)
God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, love and a sound mind.
First lets identify who this God is - God {G. 2316} theos ~ the one true God not Allah

or Buddha or.. the one true God

has not given {G. 1325} didomi ~ handed over, repaid, rewarded, distributed,
conferred, bestowed, rented, leased, handed down, delivered up, rewarded,
betrayed, entrusted or committed to}
us a spirit {G. 4151} pneuma ~ things which are commonly perceived as having no
material substance ~ an evil spirit, a ghost}
the one true God has not handed over, repaid, rewarded, distributed, conferred,
bestowed, rented, leased, handed down, delivered up, rewarded, betrayed, entrusted
or committed to us an evil spirit of timidity or cowardice
Did you know there are like 17 different meanings in Hebrew and 7 meanings in Greek for this word fear!

of fear {G.1167} deilia~ timidity, cowardice so lets define this meaning

Yes, there is a fear that reverences, and we all need to reverence God, but that is not what we are talking about today

So now we know why Paul was reminding Timothy that this spirit of fear is not from the
Lord and what this spirit of fear is all about why its not on our side of the fence.
We have all struggled with fears; I have had a few fears of my own to overcome
Lets see if we can identify where this fear first entered the picture in creation.
Does anyone know where the first mention of fear is in the bible? It was Adam~ if he lived in
unending perfection, (and he did) how in the world did he become afraid?
Just like us, he was tempted by the enemy. He believed the lie that if he ate of that fruit he
would know good and evil, he bought it, hook line and sinker ~ It was the first successful
advertising campaign Satan wants to cause an illusion that God is not as good as he says he
is. Satan wants to erode our trust so that we too would not believe God is as good as he says he
is. Satan loves to insert lies and intimidate us at any given moment that is why the scripture
says we are not to be unaware of his schemes. He wants to bring fear so we get our eyes off of
Jesus.
Lets see what happens..
6

In Genesis 3:10, Adam said, I heard the sound of you in the garden and I was afraid because I
was naked, so I hid myselfwho told them they were naked? The snake? Their eyes were
opened to the enemies scheme~ so they did what anyone of us who is afraid does~ what do you
do when youre afraid? they tried to cover it up, they hid, they lied, they blamed (blaming is
just being lame) and isnt it just the same when we sin, fear comes?
I am pretty sure that fear was not a part of the original garden experience!
*An interesting note here is that not only did sin affect their relationship with God ~ it also
affected their own relationship in that they no longer felt free to be naked before one another;
they suddenly felt embarrassed in front of each other so they made clothes to hide themselves
from each other. In other words, they lost the unashamed, perfect relationship they had with
their human partner
Can you see the progression throughout here?
Sin, guilt, fear, shame, cover up, blame, lying~ separation

Acronym ~ False evidence appearing real or Forget everything and run!

Even when for a moment we set aside trusting the Lord, F E A R comesso is the transverse
true then? That when we fearful, we have set aside trusting God? They no longer believed that
God was as good as he said he was We believe what the enemy says instead of what God
says..
Isaiah 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my
strength and my song: he also is become my salvation
Psalm 46:1-2a God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear

Adam trusted knowledge ~ instead of trusting God.

Can you clearly see that when trust goes, fear comes?
Today, maybe you are trusting in knowledge or you are being led by your feelings instead of
faith, is today the day of salvation for you, a day to shake off the heavy chains and walk out into
the promised land, to rise up and make a withdrawal of power, and of love so your mind will be
sound!? I pray that today is that day!

Who are some of our Heroes of Faith? Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Elijah- Peter too!
Lets look at another great man (Genesis 12) who had some fear Abraham! The father of
nations Abraham, when they were traveling to Egypt, told Sarah to lie to the Egyptians and
say he was his sister, he even asked her pleasehe was willing to sacrifice his own wife to save
his own hide.(she was taken to Pharaoh and he was struck with great plagues, so he knew
what Abe had done. Perhaps it was common to be struck with plagues if you committed
adultery. Wow, at least half the world would be struck now if we still lived under the law
gheeez)
7

He was fearful of losing his own lifehe was guilty of looking to his wife for protection,
instead of the Lord (if your husbands are doing that, repent and stop letting him!) Do you see
how fear caused his thinking to short circuit It did not even occur to him that he might get
caught, he only wanted to save his own hide and isnt that why we would lie?
so now, did he learn this time and say, thank God they didnt take my wife and they gave me
back all my stuff, I am never going to that again, that was terrible it was humiliating NO, NO,
NOhe did it again once as Abram and after becoming Abraham.
I have a confession to make, I too am guilty, I have lied. When my brother John asked me to
pretend to be his wife so he could get this prize, even though I knew it was wrong and I did not
want to do it, I did, and yes I have confessed that as sin and been cleansed.
Lets see what Isaac (Abes son) did, oh my gosh, the apple doesnt fall far! (Genesis 26:7)
Could it be that it was passed on generationally, this fear? (Deuteronomy 5:9 3&4th generation)
Lets look at Jacob in Genesis 32, you may know the story, worked for Rachel well, he had
been with Laban 20 years and God told him to go back to Canaan. As Jacob was on his way
back home he admitted he was afraid of his brother Esau, 32:7 says he was GREATLY AFRAID
and DISTRESSED and again in V.11, I FEAR him! Why do you suppose he was so afraid?
Yep, he had sinned against his brother by stealing his birthright amongst other things, which is
why he ran away in the first place! Are you ever afraid of what someone will do when they find
out what you have done? He was afraid of retaliation, cuz he was guilty in his heart And when
we fear, trust goes, because he feared he no longer trusted his brother although his brother was
fully trustworthy. ~ the guilt of his sin was tormenting him (we call that iniquity). We can also
see how the same deception came back on himself through his father-in-law Laban. Thats a
whole other story in itself.
Ok, so heres Jacob, fearful, admittedly so, poured out his heart to God, and despite the
confession he still wanted to do it his own way and came up with a plan to appease his brother,
he decided to send the troops ahead of him with gifts ~ and lots of them! 550 animals plus the
camel babies!

Then he wrestled all night with God and asked him to bless him, he still was fearful
in that he wanted to buy his brothers favor.
Do you ever want to buy someones favor because you are afraid of losing a friendship?
In the morning when he saw Esau coming, he divided his wives and children. He put the maids
in front, Leah, her kids then Rachel. He must have had a surge of courage because he ran ahead
of his family to meet his brother Esau. Despite that burst of courage Jacob still wanted to ease
his guilty conscience and buy his forgiveness with gifts, (many herds), and appease him. As we see
in V. 20 Jacob hoped Esau would be distracted by the gift and forget what had been done
against him. Well they met and Esau being the more mature of the two greeted him with an
open heart and arms! You can read the rest of the story for yourself in Genesis 32.
8

How about Peter, right in the middle of going to Jesus he became fearful and lost his footing
How about Elijah he had this great victory and then ran in great fear from the woman Jezebel..
do you think this big burly man was fearful of a little woman, or do you think there was
something more to fear there perhaps a spirit that would manifest in and through her?
We can see here then that when trust is gone, fear comes.

So if these great men of the bible dealt with fear, how much more do you think we will deal
with it?
Where does fear this come from?
One of the ways fear comes in is through emotional wounding that produced lack of trust which
often results in a fear based personality. This wounding can happen anytime from conception
on. If you were an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy, fear will have used that as an entry point,
if you were conceived out of wedlock, if your birth was traumatic. There are many ways the
enemy will take advantage of those who cannot yet defend themselves, remember, he comes
only to steal, kill and destroy, that is Satans only aim~ and if he can get us bound up as wee
little ones, he thinks he has it made in the shade but God!
This woundedness causes us to be stuck in these childhood fears and often we believe it is just a
part of our personality and point to God and blame him for the way we are, we cry ~ he made
me this way. I used this argument for years to justify my adultery and harsh bull in a china
shop personality. Yikes! Lord have mercy on me!
As in Elijahs case it was a spirit (an evil spirit of control, domination and control) she is called Jezebel
this is what was manifesting through his wife that he was afraid of.
As you can see in some of these examples it was handed down by the father, according to
Deuteronomy 5:9 the sins of the fathers are passed onto the third and fourth generations, thats iniquity,
which is the guilt from unconfessed sin and this opens the door for the spirit of fear to attack.
Thats the case for most of us, fear has come through an open door of sin (our own or our ancestors
and often through no fault of our own I might add, it was our inheritance) We may even have been born
with it. According to Proverbs 26:2 A curse without a cause does not alight. Somewhere a door has been
opened. Lamentations 3:33 For He does not afflict willingly or grieve the sons of men.

For a few it may be a genetic disorder. God can heal that too! This is what we are going to begin
to address today.
So this fear thats not from God, it can enter in multiple ways and in more than one way.
Physically- can be passed down through DNA ~ you could say a gift of the enemy from your ancestors
Emotionally- unhealed childhood emotional wounds
Spiritually- passed down through open doors through sin ~
Traumally- traumatic situations, dog bite, accidents, fear can enter if it is not resolved

and that you desire to bring healing and wholeness to. I choose to submit myself to you and it is in the name of

Or any other fears not listed here

Now, if you want to be free from your fears use the prayer below and for each item you checked
off. Yes, I did say every item. I say this because at the end of the prayer you will invite the Holy
Spirit to come and tell you the truth about what you have feared and there may be more
information he wants to share with you pertaining to that thing.
11

Fear Prayer
Heavenly Father, I recognize, confess, repent and renounce the sin of fear concerning __________. I realize that
when I fear, I am not trusting you.
I purpose and choose to forgive myself for allowing this fear to enter my heart. Will you please forgive me for
being fearful and help me to trust you today?
In Jesus name, I break, shatter and cut off the power from the involvement with the spirit of fear.
In Jesus name I release myself; I cancel all debts and obligations to me in this issue.
In Jesus name I command all the tormentors that have been assigned to me because of my involvement with the
spirit of fear to leave me now, never to return.
Confession and forgiveness cancels all of Satans power and authority over me in this issue and in Jesus name I
command the principality of fear to go.
Thank you Father, come heal my heart and my body and Holy Spirit tell me the truth.

So, since we all have fears ~ whether they are our fault or not, it is our responsibility to confess
and repent of them. The following scripture tells us what to do that we may live our lives as we
are meant to.
Acts 16:31 ~ Put your entire trust in the Master Jesus, and then you will live life as you were meant to live
it.
{Paul and Silas from jail} (Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you [the jailer] and your household.)

Jesus was secure because he always trusted his Daddy mommies are the human instillers of
trust, but if this does not happen the enemy brings fear to the child and wounding begins. Jesus
modeled trust for us and then he died that we too could experience this trust and enjoy safe
pastures. Will you trust him to heal you today! Will you trust him with your deepest darkest
secrets and be set free?
Back to 2 Timothy 1:7 we see that God has not given us an evil spirit So once weve come
into agreement with it, how do we get rid of it? Well we see the example with Jacob, he first
admitted his sin. But he went right back to his own ways. Lets look at some ONT scriptures.
Ezekiel 18:30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord
GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
1 John 1:9 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we
confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness. (iniquity) If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in
us.
James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins one to another and pray for one another so that you may be
healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

Father, thank you for searching and examining our hearts today and showing us the areas of
woundedness that weve been unaware of and that you desire to bring healing and wholeness to.
We choose to submit ourselves to you and it is in the name of Jesus that I pray. Amen.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Are you ready for the great exchange? If you are tired of being fearful, if your ready for the
tormenting thoughts to be erased from your past, if you have grown weary in well doing, if you
want to leave the old life behind~ I invite you to stand to your feet before the throne of grace
today and pray this generational prayer of repentance

Generational Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess, repent and renounce the sin of fear in my generations, all the
way back to Adam. Will you please forgive us?
In Jesus name I break, shatter and cut off the power from the involvement with the
generational sin and curse of fear in my life and in the lives of all my generations ~ past,
present and future.
In Jesus name, I bind every descending pattern and recon them stopped at the cross.
In Jesus name I release myself and my generations ~ past, present and future. I cancel all
debts and obligations to us in this issue.
In Jesus name I command all the tormenters, all familiar spirits, all ruling demons that have
been assigned to us because of our involvement in the sin of fear to leave us now, never to
return, including but not limited to the principalities of bitterness, envy, jealousy, fear,
rejection, unbelief, and the occult.
Father, bless the members of my family with your love, peace and protection as you move us
from darkness into your light.
Confession and forgiveness cancels all of Satans power and authority over me and my
generations, in the name of Jesus Christ I command the spirit of fear, the principality of fear
and all its lesser spirits to get off of me, get off my family, our stuff, our things, get off all
my generations, past, present and future, The door is now closed to your harassment.
Thank you Father, come heal my heart and my body from the ravages of this principality
operating in my family line and Holy Spirit tell me your truth.
Now let me pray, In Jesus name, I command that all assignments of fear to be broken
off Gods children here today, I command the spirit of infirmity to go, I command
sickness and disease to go, I command the principality of fear to bind together with all
unforgiveness~ bitterness~ resentment~anger~retaliation~hatred and murder and to go
in the name of Jesus. I thank you Father that your word in 1 John 3:8 says the Son of
13

God, Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. In Jesus name I declare that this
room that's full of Daddys princesses are now hidden from the powers of darkness.
All pathways are obscured with the blood of Jesus, we are hidden in Christ. Thank
you Father for what you have begun here today! We love you and praise your holy
name, come now with your Holy Spirit and anoint us, baptize us with power, that we
may go into all the world and make disciples of men!
Back to our verse in 2 Timothy.

the one true God ~ has not handed over, repaid, rewarded, distributed, conferred,
bestowed, rented, leased, handed down, delivered up, rewarded, betrayed, entrusted
or committed to ~ us an evil spirit ~ of timidity or cowardice
but a spirit {G.4151} ~ things which are commonly perceived as having no material
substance ~ spirit, heart, mind, the immaterial part of the inner man that can
respond to God
of power {G. 1411} ~ one who has administrative power [dunamis] and ability to
rule and bring about miracles. Lets break this word down a bit.
Okay, power, this word power is from the Greek word dunamis its where we get our word
dynamite and it is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead.
Dunamis is a Greek word 1411 that means: power, ability, miracle or might, rule or ruler~ the
extended meaning of a person, or a supernatural being (thats us) who has administrative power!
Lets review some verses that use this same word and remember this is what Paul was
reminding Timothy of~
But you shall receive power (dunamis) {- ability and might to administrate miracles} - when the Holy
Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to
the ends - the very bounds - of the earth Acts 1:8
Now to Him Who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or conceive, by the
power (dunamis) which is at work among us . . . Ephesians 3:20
The dunamis has already been given, but it is only beneficial when it is working!!

Isnt that how it is spiritually too? We think well do something and get there really fast instead
of believing God to move us forward!
Proverbs 20:21 tells us that an inheritance quickly gained will not be blessed in the end. So
slowing down a bit with spiritual matters will allow the truth of God to really take hold and will
have a long lasting effect
14

How many of you operate in the gift of administration? Like our own Jody here who operates in
the gift here at LTBshe does many things and does them well ~she administrates and gets
things done thats what this power living inside of each one of us who belong to the Lord has
access to lets look at a few references to this same dunamis power through out the scriptures.
Dunamis is used 121 times in the New Testament
For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of words but of power (dunamis) 1 Corinthians 4:20
JESUS MINISTRY:
The angel replied (to Mary), The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power (dunamis) of God
shall overshadow you; so the baby born to you will be utterly holy - the Son of God Luke 1:35
Jesus was declared to be the Son of God with power (dunamis), according to the spirit of holiness
Romans 1:4-5,
When Jesus returned from His wilderness experience of being tempted by the devil - Luke 4 - He returned in
the power (dunamis) of the Spirit. V. 36 All the people were amazed and said to each other, What is
this teaching? With authority and power (dunamis) He gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!
And the news about Him spread throughout the surrounding area
JESUS WAS ANOINTED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT AND DUNAMIS
You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John
preached - how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power (dunamis), and how
He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with
Him Acts 10:37-38
And it came to pass on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the
law sitting by, who were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judea, and Jerusalem: and the power
(dunamis) of the Lord was present to heal them Luke 5:17
JESUS COULD FEEL THE DUNAMIS WHEN IT LEFT HIS BODY
Jesus knew when the dunamis went out of His body. Mark 5:30 Luke 8:43-48 - The woman, issue of blood.
Luke 6:19 The whole multitude sought to touch Him (Jesus): for there went virtue (dunamis) out of
Him, and healed them all
JESUS DELEGATED THE DUNAMIS TO HIS FOLLOWERS He gave it to the disciples and us!
He now called the Twelve together and gave them power (dunamis) and authority to overcome all the
devils and to cure diseases, and sent them to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal Luke 9:1
And now you see that I have given you the power (dunamis) to tread underfoot snakes and scorpions
and all the forces of the enemy, and nothing will ever harm you Luke 10:19
This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance
and forgiveness of sins will be preached (by us!) In His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You
are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what My Father has promised: but stay in the city
until you have been clothed with power (dunamis) from on high Luke 24:46-49
But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power (dunamis) to testify about Me
with great effect, to the people in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth,
about My death and resurrection Acts 1:8 TLB
15

THE DISCIPLES RELEASED THE DUNAMIS

And with great strength and ability and power (dunamis) the apostles delivered their
testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace - loving kindness and favor and
goodwill - rested richly upon them all Acts 4:33

Stephen released the dunamis: Acts 6:8 *

Philip released the dunamis: Acts 8:5-13

THE APOSTLE PAUL MINISTERED POWERFULLY IN THE DUNAMIS
Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty
deeds (dunamis) 2 Corinthians 12:12
God did extraordinary miracles (dunamis) through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that
had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them Acts
19:11
Pauls own testimony was this:
And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive words of wisdom, but they were in
demonstration of the Holy Spirit and power (dunamis) So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom
of men but in the power (dunamis) of God 1 Corinthians 2:4-5
Pauls cry was: That I may know Him, and the power (dunamis) of His resurrection, and the fellowship
of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death. Philippians 3:10

Paul was reminding Timothy here that this dunamis power is what weve been given thats
power, abilities, might, ability to rule ~ a supernatural being (thats us girls) who has
administrative power ~ (thats us again).. He has given us dunamis power so lets tap into that
power ~dunamis power, explosive, dynamite power!!!
He has also given us authority.
Luke 10:19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the
power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

Colossians 1:13 says that he has delivered us from the power of darkness (lets act like it then)
Paul in essence was sayingLook son, our Father has given us his Holy Spirit, and the Holy
Spirit isnt an evil spirit that works cowardice or timidity in us. If you are feeling this fear
Timmy, this dread of danger, remember who it is that is trying to deceive you, take that thought
captive, proceed in the confidence knowing that you have been given all the power (dunamis)
to overcome the enemy that is tempting you to run and hide!
Since he has given us all power and all authority. We ought to and can be wearing that authority
as if it is a sheriffs badge (imagine a badge) and the power he has given us is like having the sheriffs
gun, (show gun) Hallelujah! He has given us mighty weapons for the tearing down of strongholds!
Amen.

16

Now that we know we have not been given a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and that is the
power of the Holy Spirit operating in us, we need that part of the God head. Lets look at what
else he has given us

meetings [116] *25 love, charity, charitably, dear, feasts of charity, loves
God kind of love ~ unconditional
Growing up, the love in my home (from my perspective) was based on conditions and
performance. If we did it right according to our parents we were rewarded with love, if not, love
was withheld and we were rewarded with anger and at times even rage to do it right or else.
Maybe thats where the perfectionism came fromDont worry, I have forgiven both my mom
and dad and have been healed from these childhood wounds now ya see, my parents never set
out to hurt mebut the enemy was always at work trying to convince me otherwiseand I
blamed them for a lot of years. In the process I have learned that because of their own
wounding they often times reacted out of their own hurts and unresolved issues, as is the case
with all of us here. Satan only comes to steal kill and destroy and from the time I was young he
was trying to take me out. Remember I nearly died of an overdose. Oh but God, his love
endures forever! He had his plans and purposes even before I was. It was through all the pain
and suffering and separation he wanted to and would bring himself glory through my broken
down now resurrected life!
Does anybody have a favorite scripture about love? ~~~~~~~
Lets look at some other well known scriptures about love.
1 Corinthians 13:4-13 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a
noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and
if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my
possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me
nothing. Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act
unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not
rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things,
endures all things. Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are
tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part and we prophesy in
part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.
When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man,
I did away with childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but
then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the
greatest of these is love.
19

Love Is Who We Were Created To Be

Love is patient. Love is kind. Love forgives all things. It hopes all things. Love is merciful. Love is tender. Love
covers a multitude of sins. Let's practice being love today, to those who have hurt us, those who love us, and
those who do not deserve it. 1 John 1:9 We love because He first loved us. The only reason we can love at all.
Our parents can only love us with the love they know, it will either be of the world or of God. With out the love
of God no one will be loved rightly and once his, this is what we are called to, to love others. (lifegroup flowers)
John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you
also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for
one another.
The love chapter is squished between Pauls discourse on spiritual gifts and his emphasis is upon using the gifts
in love and if were not, we are only a resounding gong. Remember the gong show! These gifts he has given us
cannot accomplish their purpose without love. Love is a choice and an attitude, not a feeling! Faith and hope
can only come through love which can stand alone as the greatest.

So according to this verse what is love?

Patient, kind, rejoices in or with the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things,
endures all things, never fails
What it isnt ~ jealous/envious, boastful/vaunteth/bragging, arrogant/proud puffed,
Selfish, provoked/short tempered, holding a record of wrongs/thinking evil,
Rejoicing in sin/iniquity/unrighteousness
Were talking about love here, who can name the fruit of the Spirit in Ephesians 5:22?
The fruit of the spirit is: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self
control. Against such things there is no law.

Lets look at some other verses on love!

1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not
perish but have eternal life.
Romans 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the
life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God. who loved me and gave himself for me.
Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we
were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ- by grace you have been saved.
1 John 4:9-11 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world,
so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his
Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

20

Romans 8:37-39 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure
that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height
nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our
Lord.
Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you
with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God
and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may
exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
Psalm 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love
and faithfulness.
1 John 3:1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so
we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and
steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,
Psalm 136:26 Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.
Romans 5:2-5 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we
rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering
produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us
to shame, because Gods love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given
Proverbs 17:17 a friend loves at all times and a brother is born for adversity
Proverbs 15:17 Better is a dish of vegetables where love is, than a fattened ox served with hatred
Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.
Proverbs 8:17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.
1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God
and knows God.
1 Peter 4:8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.
.
Psalm 138:8 The LORD will accomplish what concerns me; Your loving-kindness, O LORD, is
everlasting; Do not forsake the works of your hands.
James 2:8 If however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, You shall love your
neighbor as yourself, you are doing well.

What is the antidote to fear?

1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out [has no room for, gets rid of, expels, banishes] fear, because
fear expects punishment. The person who is afraid has not been made perfect in love.
Complete Jewish Bible
There is no fear in love. On the contrary, love that has achieved its goal gets rid of fear, because fear has to do
with punishment; the person who keeps fearing has not been brought to maturity in regard to love.
The Message
There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life - fear of
death, fear of judgment - is one not yet fully formed in love.
LOVE wants to achieve His goal here today! He wants to banish, drive out, expel and get rid of this fear in you!
So that you may be mature, lacking in no good thing, Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in
want.

When we remove the works of the devil (fear) we will be left with the works of God (love)
That is my hope for todays conference! To destroy the works of the devil~ that God may be
glorified in our lives! Amen and amen!
Back in 1997 when I put my entire trust in the Jesus, I began living the life I was meant to live!
And so can you~
If you are reading this and can relate and want your life to change, perhaps its time for you to
get down on your knees and surrender to God like I did! The words I spoke that day were I
dont get it, I really dont understand it, but here I am Jesus, come into my heart I am going to
live for you The words I spoke or that you will speak are not so important; rather it is the
attitude of your heart that God sees.
If you want to know, the bible says that if we believe in him, we will not perish but have
everlasting life (John 3:16) so if you believe in your heart that he died and God raised him
from the dead and confess that with your mouth you will be saved, or you can say I am born
again! Then the journey begins. Be sure to get connected to a bible believing church and obtain
yourself a bible and begin reading it. If you want to know more about Jesus, read the books of
Matthew, Mark, Luke and especially John as they all are testimony of his life and works.
In Romans eight the scriptures say that nothing, no nothing can ever separate me from the love
of God ~ isnt that wonderfully good news!
And to top that off Psalm 138:8a says this: The Lord will accomplish what concerns me, his
loving-kindness, is everlasting. During the process of Father resurrecting my marriage (which was a
ten year process by the way) I really needed to remember and stand on this scripture. Even now as I am
writing this I am once again humbled by my lack and need of him!
22

Once when I was sorely tempted to throw in the towel, I mean I was contemplating walking
away from it all, from God church, ministry and life because it was just to hard he brought
me to John 6:68 where Christ is asking Peter if he too wanted to go away, and Peters reply,
became mine also. It and I said: where would I go from your presence? Lord, to whom shall I
go? For you have the words of eternal life.
There is no where to go from his presence! I am so glad Father had given me women of faith to
stand by my side, to carry me along to hold up my arms weh I could not every time I would
begin to grow weary I heard the voice say, do not grow weary in well doing and I was once
again reminded that Father saw all my efforts and that in holding onto him he would see me
through, and that he has done. He is faithful!

Faith, its whats between the raindrops and the rainbow!

You have to see the rain before you can see the rainbow!
Psalm 126:5 Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting.

Do you know Our Bodies Respond to Our Thoughts?

Did you know that Fear can produce pain in our bodies? We can also accelerate pain levels by thinking about it.
Our bodies are responders to our thinking. Pain is not an emotional or soulish expression, nor is it a spiritual
expression. Pain is a physiological expression. Although pain is a physical reality, it can be caused by a spirit, or
by our thoughts. In the Bible, stress is referred to as Fear or being anxious. We are to "fear not" and be anxious
for nothing. Fear, anxiety and stress are synonymous terms. Let's take our thoughts captive by taking no thought
for tomorrow, and trusting God to take care of us.
Proverbs 23:7a For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.

One of the things I was led to do and learned along the way is to stand on scripture. Some of
you may know what that is, and some may not, so bear with me as I share how the Lord led me
to begin considering it pure joy as I faced trials of many kinds and how to overcome in any and
every situation!
Psalm 119:11 ~ I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Now this is an ongoing process as he reveals me to me, I can eagerly repent and be free-r!
I have learned to say ouch, hallelujah and embrace the pain. Eleven years ago when my
marriage was deader than dead, DEAD..my mentor gave me an assignment she had me
write 25 good things about Dewey every day for 25 days! Yikes, she told me to start in the
morning and that I could not go to bed until I had completed the daily assignment. I am here to
tell you that it worked! I renewed my mind and attitude towards Dewey which was only the
beginning of a long healing process for the both of us. Next, I will share with you what
confession has done for me and what it will do for anyone willing to invest a small amount of
time in their daily routine!

Confession
Definition of confession
Confession is a powerful tool of God. He spoke this world into being for goodness sake!
When we hear the word confession we usually think of confessing sins, weaknesses,
and failings. This is only one view of it. There is a positive side of confession too!
Strongs G. 3670 homologeo ~ to confess, acknowledge, agree, admit, declare~ this can be a profession
of allegiance, an admission of bad behavior, or an emphatic declaration of a truth!
Confessions Increase Faith
Confession is the way faith expresses itself. Faith, like love, is of the heart and of the
spirit. And we know there is no love without word or action. We cannot reason love
into people, nor can we reason it out of them. Its of the heart. And faith, too, is of the
spirit or heart. We cannot reason it into us or out of us.
The confession of the believer identifies him and sets the boundaries for his life. One
reason many Christians, although sincere, are weak is because they have not made a
confession of who and what they are in Christ. We must find out how God looks at us
and then confess it. Your daily confession of what the Father is to you, of what Jesus is
doing for you now at the right hand of the Father, and of what the Holy Spirit is doing
in you will build a solid, positive faith life. You will not fear circumstances, disease,
lack, or conditions. Romans 8:37 No, in all these things we are more than
conquerors through him who loved us. You will face life fearlessly as a conqueror
when you confess who you are in Christ!
It is always possible to tell if a person is believing right by what he says. If his
confession is wrong, his believing is wrong. If his believing is wrong, his thinking is
wrong. If his thinking is wrong, it is because his mind has not been renewed with the
Word of God. Believing, thinking and saying all go together.
The confession of our lips will either give God or Satan dominion over us.
Wrong confession is a confession of defeat and failure and the supremacy of Satan. It
keeps you in bondage and defeat. Right confession, when we testify to what God has
done for us, glorifies God. Any confession that glorifies Satan is an unconscious
declaration that God is a failure. The confession of your lips that has grown out of
faith in your heart based on what the word [the thoughts and heart of God] says, will
absolutely defeat the devil and give you victory every time!
Ask yourself, What have I been confessing? Is it bringing life or is it bringing death?
Deuteronomy 30:19 Today I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven
and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your
descendants might live!

yourself and your situations that you too may experience his glory! At the end of this article you will find a
document entitled I AM, please feel free to begin declaring the truth of Gods word over yourself and as you
study the scriptures for yourself, you will discover additional verses that you may also begin declaring and
confessing over yourself!

There is Security for the One Who Trusts in the Lord ~ Psalm 91
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2
I will say to the Lord, My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!
3
For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence.
4
He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a
shield and bulwark.
5
You will not be afraid of the terror by night, Or of the arrow that flies by day;
6
Of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, Or of the destruction that lays waste at noon.
7
A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not approach you.
8
You will only look on with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked.
9
For you have made the Lord, your refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place.
10
No evil will befall you, nor will any plague come near your tent.
11
For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.
12
They will bear you up in their hands, that you do not strike your foot against a stone.
13
You will tread upon the lion and cobra, the young lion and the serpent you will trample down.
14
Because he has loved me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he
has known my name.
15
He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and
honor him.
16
With a long life I will satisfy him and let him see my salvation.

You see, Ive learned to dwell and so can you!

I found trust as I confessed and declared the emphatic truth of Gods Holy Word!
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Job 3:25 For what I fear comes upon me, and what I dread befalls me.
Numbers 14:28 Say to them, As I live, says the Lord, just as you have spoken in my hearing, so I will
surely do to you and having done all, I stand!
When we have overcome in an area of our life, the enemy of our souls, will come back to tempt us. Be aware of
his scheme, and remember that you have the word of God to stand on against his attempts to deceive you again!
We must fight the good fight and hold onto our peace! Submit to the Lord, resist the devil and he will flee from
you!

What else does our Daddy have for us?

Lets review~
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, love and a sound mind. For God {G. 2316}
~the one true God
has not given {G. 1325} ~handed over, repaid, rewarded, distributed, conferred, bestowed, rented, leased,
handed down, delivered up, rewarded, betrayed, entrusted or committed to}
us a spirit {G. 4151} ~things which are commonly perceived as having no material substance ~ an evil spirit,
of fear {G.1167} ~ timidity, cowardice
but a spirit {G.4151} ~ things which are commonly perceived as having no material substance ~ spirit, heart,
mind, the immaterial part of the inner man that can respond to God
of power {G. 1411} ~ one who has administrative power [dunamis] and ability to rule and bring about miracles
of love {G. 26} ~ agape * of being dearly loved, held in supreme value

Oh, hes given us a sound mindwell, what does that really mean? Lets see!
self discipline that demonstrates prudence and wisdom, being in a right state of mind and
having sober judgment
a sound mind {I lost mine just this week}
Do you know how we are trained?
By example, where do our earliest examples come from?
Yes, our parents and caregivers.
We are so easily swayed I grew up hearing a lot of criticism in the car on the way home from
family functions, now, did my parents set out to teach me how to be critical, perhaps not
directly but they sure led by there example. When my oldest son was not yet two, I had him in
church with me and apparently he was feeling frustrated about something and out comes oh ---with great intonations, I felt so embarrassed and later asked my mom about it and how to get
him to stop and she gave me some great advice, she said, stop saying it yourself and he never
repeated that again! Thank God!
Getting God for me was not a process of adding things to my life like, bible study or reading,
going to church or even praying~ getting God for me began when I was around the tables of
AA, as I began to do inventories of myself. Some of you may be familiar with the 4th step
~Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. I began looking at my character
defects (sins) and began confessing them and as I did I discovered that I was free, even though I
did not yet know Christ as my personal Savior! I apologized to everyone I knew I had harmed,
Isnt God merciful! So, getting God was and has been a process of eliminating things from my
soul that were not of him! This began the discipline of looking at myself not that I still didnt
look at my husbands defects, I did! But I no longer judged myself better than he because of
26

them what I believe now is that the ground is level at the cross and we are all in the same
boat together
some of us are newer to this than others so we can show others the ropes so to speak just as
others who have gone before us have shown us the ropes, Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the
dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give. the scripture says, freely ye
have received so freely give! And what a delight it is for me to give!
Luke 7:47 He who has been forgiven much, loves much! Thats me and it can be you too!
He is not the God of the half empty or half full in your life.
He is the God of the exceeding abundantly above all you could ask or think. ~ Roy Lessin
So the good news is this: if we were trained, we can be untrained! Hallelujah!
And now we can be trained by the trainer, the Holy Spirit
OKAY---- Paul was saying hes given us self discipline that demonstrates prudence and wisdom, being in a right
state of mind and having sober judgment

~ so having a sound mind really means self discipline, gosh, where have we heard that word
before in the scriptures is it part of the fruit basket?!.
prudence- prudence ~ noun careful, good judgment that allows someone to avoid danger or risks
Full Definition
1 the ability to govern and discipline oneself by the use of reason
2 sagacity or shrewdness in the management of affairs
3 skill and good judgment in the use of resources
4 caution or circumspection as to danger or risk

Wisdom - the quality of having experience, then applying that knowledge with good judgment~
Early in my walk I was setting some goals for my self, spiritually speaking, one of my goals was that I
wanted to be a wise old womanwhich meant I had to admit that I was an unwise young one! lol

From my AA days, I began learning how to be in a right state of mind so I could have sober
(unimpaired, no rose colored glasses) judgment. When we are fearful, all sound judgment gets up and
walks out the door, all we want to do is either run and hide (make fig leaf coverings) or fight, (blame
others) or we want to retaliate and get even and make our position known. (justification) we
become very un-Christ like in our endeavor to prove ourselves and make what we perceive to
be wrong, right! When fear comes, trust goes!
So, Paul wraps up this sentence with this idea that when we operate in power and love, our
mind will be sound, we will have self control, that is, of our tongue, that we may speak
prudently and wisely into the very situation that the enemy would use to thwart us!
We will never grow beyond our willingness to confess our sin. Fear is the graveyard of the
carnal man, and pride goeth before a fall.
Obedience is progressive and is born out of the love of God; therefore it would be accurate to
say that we only love God as much as we obey his word!
27

In Conclusion
Am I willing to take up my cross where my life intersects with Gods, where death (my own)
happens, and where the victory is?
Our goal here today and everyday is to destroy the thoughts that the enemy is feeding us with.
How you wonder? By fasting the lies while feasting on Gods word! We need to renew our
minds daily with his own word! Satan is the god of this world so he has bee given authority, but
according to the scripture, so have we! Remember, we have been given the badge and the gun
so lets shoot him out of the water!
Looking back at 2 Timothy 1:7 there are four points I want to draw out to leave you with.
The parts which we should naturally have expected Paul and Timothy to fill, are reversed. Paul
the older and more wiser one, who is now in prison, and soon to be a martyr, might have been
expected to receive encouragement and consolation from others. But Timothy seems to have
been of a somewhat weak and timid nature, and this letter of the dying man, its one long
trumpet-blast to stir his courage. In it Paul would have his down-hearted young companion and
helper remember what God has given them. Do you need your courage stirred today? If so you
are in the right place!
1) Christ makes fearless men
The first thing Paul would have us understand is that God hath not given us the spirit of fear,
which translated is, cowardice and timidity. We can see courage and timidity are very often
largely matters of temperament. But then, you know, the very purpose of the gospel is to mend
temperaments, to restrain, and to stimulate, so as that natural defects may become excellences.
So while we have to admit that religion is not meant to obliterate natural distinctions in
character, we must also remember that we insufficiently grasp the intention of the gospel which
we say we believe unless we realize that it is meant to deal with the most deeply rooted defects
in character, to make the crooked things straight, and the rough places plain.
So I venture to say that any man who lives in the realization of the truths which the gospel
reveals, and in the use of the gifts will {whatever his natural disposition of apprehensiveness}
be stiffened into a fearless man; and be no longer a reed shaken with the wind, but a brazen
pillar, an iron wall, amidst all dangers and enemies.
When you think of the possibilities of every life, and of the certainties of every life, of what
may come at any time, the wonder is that we live without a perpetual tremor of heart. Fear.
Paul comes in and says, God has not given us the spirit of fear. So what are we fearing about?
He has given us the only thing that can exorcise that demon. He has given us the good news of
himself, whereby his name becomes our dearest hope instead of our ghastliest doubt. He has
given us the assurance of forgiveness and acceptance in Jesus Christ; He has lain upon our
28

hearts and minds truths which need to be grappled with, with which he will make us brave! He
has assured us that all things work together for good, that he himself will never leave us. And
the Master who spoke on earth so often, 365 times he bids us to fear not, that is his
encouragement and his promise at the same time Fear not! Therefore, whosoever is wedded to
him need fear nothing.
Is it time for a wedding? Are you ready to walk the aisle and say your I dos to Jesus?
2) Christ makes strong men-powerful
He hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power. Again we have to remember a previous
remark as to temperament. There are differences among us in this respect. Some of us, of
course, are naturally far more sensitive and yielding than others. These differences will remain,
and yet the weakest may be as David, and although the weakest shall be made strong, the
strongest shall be stronger still. The difference between the hind and front ranks will remain, but
the whole battalion, as it were, will be shifted forwards.
Let me remind you, the cultivation of strength of will is to be desired. To be weak is to be
wicked nine times out of ten. I believe that the bulk of men that go wrong, that run with the
devil, as you say, do it, not so much because of a bias towards evil, but as of a fatal feebleness
that is incapable of resistance; and I know of nothing that is more needed than the ears to hear
this truth: HEAR THIS, the man that cannot say No! is doomed to say Yes! to a myriad of
things that may solicit him. To be weak is to be wicked in such a world as we live in; and many
of you know how fatally, and feebly you have yielded, for no other reason than that you were
not man or woman enough to stop your ears to it, and let it hum past you without touching you.
As with all vices, you will find that fear is the weakness and it is, always misery. Fear has
entered because someone has not been loved rightly. It is also a failure to not know who we are
in Christ, the world says ignorance is bliss, but Gods word says my people perish for a lack of
knowledge. This ignorance will rob you of your badge and your gun! We must know who we
are in Christ; there is no other way around it! None! Do you know who you are in Christ? Will
you allow Jesus to make you a strong man?
How then are we to get strength? I do not want to exalt the gospel of Jesus by putting down
other avenues by which people may get a dose of steel into their system. There are such ways,
and they do at times help, in the short run anyway. But if you want to have a power within you
that will enable you to stand foursquare to every wind that blows, believe me the surest way of
getting this, is by faith in Jesus,
When you open your heart to the Son of God he will send his mighty Spirit into you, he alone is
to be the source of your triumphant strength. If we would only keep near to Jesus, and live with
hearts open for the influx of his great communications, we should need nothing else to make us
strong, against all temptation, even in the midst of suffering.
29

There is a gift offered to every one of us in Jesus which will make our weakness into strength.
He who is strong in the Lord and in the power of his might, and he only, is truly strong. If then
you want power, one must learn where it is stored. It is in his Holy Spirit
His strength was as the strength of ten, because his heart was pure. ~ Sir Galahad
Sir Galahad had the secret, he asked, How is the heart to be made pure?
By the entrance into it of the purifying Christ. Its Christ who makes fearless and strong men.

Do you know who you are in Christ? Will you allow Jesus to make you a strong man?

3) Christ makes loving men

Tis excellent to have a giants strength, Tis tyrannous to use it like a giant! ~ Shakespeare

Very beautifully, side by side with power, Paul puts love. There are some great moral teachers
of this generation, and of the last, whose whole teaching has been fatally spoiled or impaired,
amongst other reasons, because they lost sight of the fact that the strongest thing in the universe
is love. But Paul is saying, Christ makes strong men, but without love we become spoiled and
impaired in our doings.
There is only one thing that makes men loving, and that is that they be loved. And Jesus, the
lover of our souls, comes to us, he shows us his hands and his side, and says, my Father and
yours so loved the world, that he gave, he gave me, his only son that whoever believes in me
will not perish but have everlasting life. So that the whole world will know love.
Will you submit and surrender to the King of kings that you may be loved rightly and be sent
out to a dying and lost world?

4) Christ makes self-governing men

Since we have tastes and desires rooted in the flesh, some of which are perfectly legitimate,
having them guide or gratify without restraint, is ruinous.
Blind passions are not meant to guide and the men who live by their own nature, are sure to
land in the ditch. We only have to look so far to see a whole gob of desires, we must learn to
govern ourselves, or we will go to pieces with no one to blame but ourselves.
Sisters, there is only one thing that will give you complete self-control. If you choose, I will
guarantee that it will not fail. Trust in Jesus; ask him to govern and he will help you to control
yourself. That is the noblest conquest that any man can make. Every man is a king, and crowns
himself when he puts on his own hat. (Dr. Seuss) I pray youd be the servant of him who alone will
cause you to grow in the fruit of self control. In Christ the weakest may be made strong; the
most self-centered heart can be opened by his love, to enjoy his peace.
If we will only go to him, and trust him with ourselves, we will then live in true communion
with him, we will exercise the gifts that he gives instead of squandering them. He tells us daily,
30

Fear not for my strength is made perfect in your weakness.

His love will kindle afresh the embers in us; and he who brought the raging maniac, whom no
chains could bind, to sit quietly at his feet, will give us authority over the one city which we
have to govern, and that one, is ourselves. Will you go to him today?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Genesis 4:7 If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is
crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it."
To recap~
Christ makes fearless men, strong men, loving men and self governing men.
