Pray
Open your prayer time with something like:
We will finish every week with a brief time of prayer where well find out if
anyone has some needs we can pray for or any answers to prayer we can
thank God for, and well close our evening by thanking God for what hes
been saying to us. There is no pressure for anyone to share or pray out loud.
God hears what we pray whether we think it or speak it, although wed love
to have a few people speak out so we can agree.
Make a note of any prayer requests so you can followup next week.

Then Jesus said to Thomas, Put your finger here, and see my
hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not
disbelieve, but believe.
Thomas answered him, My Lord and my God!

What

So What

Read Matthew 1:22-23

What might your response be to someone who says, Its obvious that
Jesus was great man, a revolutionary even, but I dont believe he was
God?

One of Jesus disciples, Thomas, seemed to struggle to believe only

declaring that Jesus is God when he finally sees the resurrected Jesus,
touches the wounds in his hands and side, and then declares my Lord
and my God. In what ways can you relate to him?

Do you personally believe that Jesus is God? If so, why? If not, why not?

For arguments sake, imagine it was proven in some way that Jesus
wasnt God. What difference would that make?

What practical difference should believing that Jesus is God make to

our lives. If you believe he is God, what difference does it make to you
personally?

There is a huge weight of evidence that proves that Jesus was a man who
lived about 200 years ago and did many of the things the bible records about
him. The most question is therefore not, Did Jesus exist, but Who is Jesus.
Today we look at the central claim of the Christian faith about Jesus: That he
wasnt just a great man, but he was also God. It is this claim that sets the
Christianity apart from every other faith and worldview, and it is this truth
that brings the power to change peoples lives.

If you were Jesus and you wanted to demonstrate that you were God,
what would you have done?

Watch the video clip at http://bit.ly/JesusAndParalytic (if you are unable

to watch in your group, you can read this story in Luke 5:16-26)
The Jewish people of the time were very clear from what Jesus taught and
did that he believed himself to one with God, and it is for this reason that
they sought to kill him.

What would you have thought about Jesus claim to be God if you were:
a) the paralysed man who needed Gods help.
b) Jesus disciples who were following him but were not yet
quite sure who exactly he was
c) the religious teachers who had spent their lives learning and
teaching about God.

What has challenged you today and what will you do about it this
week?

If you are unsure about Jesus being God, what will you do to grow in
your understanding of the matter this week? If you do believe that
Jesus is God, how will it make more of a difference in your life this week
than it did last week.

Why does Jesus not specifically affirm or deny the accusation that he
believes himself to be God?

If Jesus is Immanuel (God with us), what does this story reveal about
the nature and character of God? How does this challenge any
preconceptions you may have?
