Abstract
Mobile Technology as the name implies technology that is portable such as notebooks, PDAs
and cellular phones. In todays era of advance technology and education Mobile Technologies has
become an integral part of every human life. The boons of advance technology has caused mobile
devices to be compressed from a laptop into a palmtop, tablet or more specifically mobile phones that
we use now a days.

Introduction
Mobile Technology refers to any device that can be carried by any person very easily and allows a
person to perform a task very comfortably. It is the technology that allows those tasks to be performed
via cellular phone, PDA, laptops etc. A standard mobile device has gone from being no more than a
simple two-way pager to being a cellular phone, a GPS navigation system, a video gaming system, a
web browser, an instant messenger system and much more. It includes the use of a variety of
transmission media such as: radio wave, micro wave, infra-red, GPS and Bluetooth to allow transfer of
data via voice, text, video and more.

Mobile Industry Information:

There are several reasons for why did mobile technology earned its way to this era of mankind. Among
these may be listed as follows
According to data collected the main reason of using mobile technology are mainly for calls, SMS,
mobile, web, apps, games, social networking, music.
A study of Facebook indicates that of 500 million users of Facebook, more than 100 million of
them are using mobile technology to manage their accounts.
The total number of mobile phone subscriptions worldwide has reached 4.6 billion and is
expected to increase to 5 billion according to the U.N Telecommunication Agency.

Mobile Technology: Increased productivity and profitability:

The demand to access business information and application through mobile technologies such as the
Apple iPhone and iPad, devices running Google Android and Windows 8 mobile or using RIM
Blackberry is surging as a consumer preferences for increased business workforce. Obviously however
in business more types and complexity of information are needed ranging from access to documents and
presentations to status on initiatives and processes and for specific application needs to perform various
intelligence functions.
With the advancement of technology just having access to e-mail is profoundly insufficient for
increasing productivity and producing better informed employees. The integration of mobile devices
such as laptops, tablets, PDAs and smartphones along with their various applications and software make
it easier for workers to collaborate and business to communicate with staff, customers and vendors.
Moreover technology allows people to use company data and resources without being tied to a

A brief description of Windows Phone 8 operating system:

Windows 8 phone is the third generation of the Windows phone mobile
operating system from Microsoft. Windows phone 8 replaces the Windows
CE based architecture used in Windows 7 with the Windows NT kernel. The
operating system adds improved file system, drivers, network stack, security
components, media and graphics support. Using the NT kernel, Windows
Phone can now support multi-core CPUs of up to 64 cores.
Due to the switch to the NT kernel, Windows Phone 8 also supports native 128-bit Bit locker
encryption and Secure Boot. Windows Phone 8 uses true multitasking, allowing developers to
create apps that can run in the background and resume instantly.
A user can switch between "active" tasks as well as any application listed may be suspended
or terminated under certain conditions, such as a network connection being established or battery
power running low. An app running in the background may also automatically suspend, if the user
has not opened it for a long duration of time.

A brief description of Symbian operating system:

Symbian is a mobile operating system and computing platform designed for smartphones and
currently maintained by Accenture. It runs on the ARM processor. Symbian was used by many
major mobile phone brands like Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and above all by Nokia. It
was the most popular smart phone OS on a worldwide average until and unless it was replaced by
Android.
The Symbian Kernel used a single processor core that executes both the user applications and the
signalling stack (The set of protocols used in a communication network). The real-time kernel has a
microkernel architecture containing only the minimum, most basic primitives and functionality for
maximum robustness, availability and responsiveness. It has a request-and-callback approach to
services and maintains separation between user interface and engine. It contains a scheduler,
memory management and device drivers with networking, telephony and file system support
services in the OS services layer or the Base Services Layer.

Building applications using J2ME:

J2ME allows developers to use JAVA and the J2ME wireless toolkit to create applications and
programs for wireless and mobile devices. J2ME consists of two elements configurations
and profiles.
Configuration provides a set of libraries and a virtual machine for a category of
wireless device. There are two configurations for J2ME, one for fixed wireless device and one
for mobile wireless devices.
Profiles are APIs built on top of configurations to provide a runtime environment for a
specific device such as a PDA, cell phone etc. The profile manages the application, user
interface, networking and IO.
With the further growth in technology and mobile advancements there came into picture what we
popularly known as the Android mobile operating system developed by Google. This led to the turnover
in the definition of mobile operating system and caused immense changes in the world of mobile
technology. Almost all mobile brands started shifting their mobile operating systems into android.

Samsung v/s Nexus :

A brief description of Android mobile operating system:

Android is a mobile operating system based on the Linux Kernel and
currently developed by Google. With a user interface based on direct
manipulation Android is designed primarily for touchscreen mobile
devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. Android is the
most popular mobile OS. As of 2013 android devices sell more than
Windows, iOS, MAC OS devices combined with sales in 2012, 2013
and 2014.
The OS uses touch inputs that loosely correspond to real world actions like swiping, tapping to
manipulate on-screen objects. Since android devices are battery powered android is designed to
manage memory (RAM) to keep power consumption at a minimum. When an android app is no
longer in use the system will automatically suspend it in memory while the application is
technically open. Suspended applications do not consume any resources. This has the dual
benefit of increasing the general responsiveness of Android devices, since applications do not
need to be closed and reopened from scratch each time, and also ensuring that background
applications do not consume power needlessly. Android manages the apps stored in memory
automatically: when memory is low, the system will begin killing apps and processes that have
been inactive for a while, in reverse order since they were last used (oldest first). This process is
designed to be invisible to the user, such that users do not need to manage memory or the
killing of apps themselves.

Apple IOS:

Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne on April 1, 1976, to
develop and sell personal computers. It was incorporated as Apple Computer, Inc. on January
3, 1977, and was renamed as Apple Inc. on January 9, 2007, to reflect its shifted focus

A brief description of iOS mobile operating system:

iOS (previously iPhone
OS)
is
a mobile
operating
system developed by Apple Inc. and distributed exclusively for
Apple hardware. It is the operating system that powers many of the
company's iDevices.
Originally unveiled in 2007 for the iPhone, it has been extended to support other Apple devices
such as the iPod Touch (September 2007), iPad (January 2010), iPad Mini (November 2012).
Apple's App Store contained more than 1.2 million iOS applications, 500,000 of which were
optimized for iPad. The user interface of iOS is based on the concept of direct manipulation,
using multi-touch gestures. Interface control elements consist of sliders, switches, and buttons.
Interaction with the OS includes gestures such as swipe, tap, pinch, and reverse pinch, all of
which have specific definitions within the context of the iOS operating system and its multitouch interface.
Major versions of iOS are released annually. The current release, iOS 7, was released on
September 18, 2013. In iOS, there are four abstraction layers: the Core OS layer, the Core
Services layer, the Media layer, and the Cocoa Touch layer. The current version of the operating
system (iOS 7.1.2), dedicates 11.5 GB of the device's flash memory for the system partition,
using roughly 800 MB of that partition (varying by model) for iOS itself.
