4 DAY WORK WEEK for Government

Employee

Nowadays if we can notice every single moment of time really

matters a lot particularly for those working people. Their common days start at 6:00 am
and ends at 5:00 or 7:00 pm for the regular one. Employees from private and public has
a different routine and workloads to be performed every day. Base on the survey
government workers tend to be less serious and dedicated in their job. While the private
employees are more active and productive in terms of performance. Why? I therefore
conclude that one of the common reason is because their performance in work are not
monitored that much unlike to those private companies who regularly review and
assessed each workers in terms of performance and production.
According to a certain survey most of the common extra activities
of public workers gossiping, coffee are break that mostly become 1 hour or surfing to
the internet during work time. It only proved how irresponsible they are in working.
Instead of utilizing the complete hours for a good production or serving those customers
they much preferred wasting their time in doing unrelated transactions to their work.
So if this is the recent scenario today I am not favored for this new
program proposed by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) implementing a four-day
work week in government offices to allow its employees to cope with the heavy traffic in
Metro Manila drew mixed reaction from various workers groups from the private sector.
In my opinion coping up to this endless heavy traffic issues in Metro Manila is not only
the factor why they are proposing this idea. For the past decade traffic is one of the
daily starters of working people until they went home. This issue is not a new at all.
Maybe it will be better if they improved and adjust the roads here in Manila instead of
trying to abscond to their responsibilities.
Labor group Trade Union Congress of the Philippines-Nagkaisa
(TUCP-Nagkaisa) on Monday expressed support to the plan of the Civil Service
Commission (CSC) allowing government agencies to implement a four-day work week
scheme. The group, however, pointed out that there would be no diminution of salary
and reduction of benefits and public sector workers are consulted first they should ever
adopt it.
Base on the recent survey above if during 5 or 6 days a week
people are not working properly what more if they will be dealing for 4 days. I rest
assured that workers will be more unproductive. Even though the benefits and regular
wage are not affected quality of performance will be sacrificed for sure. I am not
convinced to the other reason of other that because of this they will be having more
quality time for their family which led to motivation. I doubt it.

Working only 10 hours a day would not be good for employees in

the long run. "I think the body of man is already conditioned to work 8 hours, and
stretching it to 10 hours on four days is not good. I think we will have a cadre of
employees that are tired. The last two hours (of work) will just be a rest period for them,"
Lacson said.
I do believe to what Lacson said. People will be more unproductive
because of the non-stop work. Employees will gonna be in office because it is not yet
time to went home not because they are there to finish their work. So basically most of
their output are affected. There is a large amount of chance that they will be more prone
to errors so instead of making work faster and easy it only add the work of employees.
And I also thing that they will mostly rush to finish their task because they are more
eager to went home because of the very retiring day.
Some stated that the four-day workweek cause more savings for
workers, since it will cut down on transport and food costs. This proposal seeks to
address the economic difficulties caused by higher consumer prices and stagnant
wages. However, foreign businessmen have already complained about the high number
of non-working holidays in the country. Last December, seven foreign chambers of
commerce in the Philippines published a study saying that too many holidays are
forcing many potential investors to avoid the country and raises costs of of
employers."Every paid holiday goes to the bottom line of the balance sheet, and, like
minimum wages, can pressure firms that operate on low-profit margins to reduce their
work force, close, or move into the underground economy," the study said.
The four-day work week option should also be provided to
government offices outside of Metro Manila, especially in Mindanao where there is a
serious energy problem it will reduce our overall energy demand, save billions in electric
bills and we will be saving the planet by reducing our carbon emission.
According to a certain data it said a small government office with
air-conditioning units, lights, computers and other equipment can save as much as
P15,000 in electric bills per month if the work week is less by a day.
At some point it really reduce the consumption of electricity but then
again work are still work needs to be performed properly and distributed by countrymen
most specially from the government sector.
