1 Why do you think you would like to work for our company?
► They want to find out if you’re interested and know anything about them. Do
some homework and a little flattery will go a long way.
► The best interview answers use your key strengths statement and match to what
they need.
► Talk about your interest, challenge and opportunity to develop or learn new skills.
► The best interview answers talk about your interest, challenge and the opportunity
to develop or learn new skills.
► Use your exit statement and move on to your objectives adding that this job
meets what you are looking for very well, and that you are pleased to be here
discussing it with them.
14 What criticisms have you received on the job’? How did you feel about that
criticism?
15 Did you make any changes in the routine of your last position’? Do you think
these changes benefited the company or yourself?
► Your best interview answers strategy would be to say you prefer to know what
needs to be done and when it needs to be done by, and you’re always prepared to
meet peak demands. (Nobody could argue with that!)
► Talk about a job that holds your interest, gives you a challenge and opportunity to
develop or learn new skills.
22 What do you feel may be holding you back from more advancement? Why?
23 How long have you been looking for work? How have you gone about it?
24 Are you willing to relocate’? Would this cause any undue difficulty?
26 What qualifications do you have that make you feel you will
be successful in this position?
► Use your key strengths statement and match to what they need.
► You might say you prefer management that recognises your ability and is
available when needed. (Nobody could argue with that!)

30 How do you manage people - describe your style, methods, and relationships.
► The best interview answers will use your key strengths statement and match to

► People that have similar interests, enjoy a challenge and the opportunity to
develop or learn new skills while contributing to the good of the business.
► The best interview answers only ever talk about a (very carefully) calculated risk –
not one that could have resulted in injury or damage. You might say you took a risk
promoting one of your people to a management role (but only if it paid off)
My tip as one of your best interview answers is to use your key strengths statement
and match to what they need. Don’t offer a catalogue of weaknesses but equally
don’t say you’ve no weaknesses – that just sets you up for a fall. Talk about
something that anybody could relate to such as administration and say “I used to be
pretty bad but I recognized it gave me problems and I’ve been working hard on it
since.”
In other words place your weakness in the past, show you recognized it and are
working to rectify it.
One of my clients who was a Grandmother answered this question with “chocolate
and my grandchildren” – the interviewer laughed and she got the job!
► Not for the sake of it, but eager to please customers or colleagues to the
advantage of the business.
► Answer positively and explain by showing your willingness to take on new jobs or
responsibilities or work patterns.
► Talk about a job that lacks interest or is constantly repetitive, or overly full of
unnecessary procedures, doesn’t give you a challenge or any opportunity to develop
and learn new skills.
41 How do you feel about persons with backgrounds and interests different from
your own? Can you be tolerant of their differences’?
► For your best interview answers use your key strengths statement and match to
what they need.
43 Were you ever in a position of appraising others’? What type of criteria did you
use?
► This might depend upon the nature of the particular job, but most employers
prefer to think of their people as ‘team-players’
48 When you took your present job, what were your goals? How did you intend
achieving these goals?
50 What kind of income to you think you should be making in 2/5 years time?
51 If we don’t offer you the job after this interview, why do you
think that would be?
► This is an invitation to say you’re not good enough!! In fact you should say it is
because you haven’t explained a key area fully. Ask them which area their concern
comes from. Use your key strengths statement and match to what they need.
► This is an invitation to knock the other candidates or to say you’re the best!! In
fact you can't say you're better, because you don't know, so you must reiterate your
key strengths and tie these in to their needs.
"OK I haven’t answered all the questions, but you get the
picture? More answers may be added later. I might even get
you to post your favorite interview questions for me to consider
adding to the list."
