DO PROCEDURE - NUMBERING AND TITLING OF DRAWINGS

INTRODUCTION
This procedure, for the numbering and titling of drawings, should be read in
conjunction with ADM 20, DO Procedure No 1.

DRAWING NUMBERS

2.1

All Drawings, Sketches and Figures (including those for reports & presentations)
shall be numbered in accordance the Air BP drawing numbering system as
defined below. Where necessary for reference purposes, a figure or sketch
number will appear somewhere other than in the Drawing Number 'Box'.
Sketches and Figures need not necessarily have a title block or box, but must
still carry a number in accordance with the Air BP drawing numbering system.

2.2

Project specific drawing numbers shall be of the form:

AAA/PPP/NNNN/R
AAA

is the airport IATA code

PPP

is the number of the project at the airport. Where appropriate this

will be the same number as used in the TP filing system

NNNN

is a four digit drawing number taken from one of the categories

given in Appendix 1

R
2.3

is the revision letter.

Standard drawing numbers shall be of the form:

STD/DDD/NNNN/R

2.4

Where:

Where:

DDD

is a number representing the main discipline of the drawing, from

one of the categories given in Appendix 1

NNNN

is a four digit drawing number taken from one of the categories

given in Appendix 1

is the revision letter.

CAD File References

CAD drawings shall be stored using the drawing reference as a file name, with
the '/' replaced by an '_', i.e. AAA_PPP_NNNN_R.

2.5

For drawings requiring multiple 'sheets', each sheet shall have a unique Drawing
Number. Reference to the sheet sequence will appear elsewhere on the drawing
- preferably in the title block, but not form part of the drawing number.

AIR BP ADM_21_4.doc - Page 1

DO PROCEDURE - NUMBERING AND TITLING OF DRAWINGS

Where necessary, existing drawings that have been given sheet numbers will be
renumbered with a new unique drawing number (the "old number" being retained
on the original, above the title block area).

TITLE BLOCK ENTRIES

3.1

Within the drawing title block, three title entries are required: (i) an airport or
location name (ii) a project name and (iii) a drawing title. These shall be clearly
identified on the Drawing Request Form (see ADM 20)

3.2

Typical examples of title block entries are:

Airport/Location
Project
Title

Project Drawing
Heathrow
Perry Oaks Development
Hydrant Pumps Piping Layout

Standard Drawing
Standard Drawing
Civil
Bridger Offloading
Pumps Civil Layout

3.3

The drawing title shall clearly describe the contents and purpose of the drawing
and consist of 2 elements, Subject and Purpose. See Table 1 for examples.

CHANGES TO DRAWING NUMBER OR TITLE

Once a drawing has been created and the Number, Project Name and Title
cannot be changed, so careful thought must be given to the Project name and
Title.

THIRD PARTY DRAWINGS

Due to the differing formats and general inconsistency of "Third Party" drawing
numbers, all reference drawings and prints not drawn by Air BP will be given a
number in the Air BP numbering system. These numbers will follow the Air BP
drawing numbering system with the exception that the numbering for each
Project will begin at 9000. Both the original vendor drawing number and the new
Air BP number will be recorded on the drawing office database, enabling lists of
Vendors drawings to be generated in both formats.
