Safety recommendations
As high pressures/forces constitute a potential safety risk, the
following instructions must be considered:
The equipment should only be operated by trained personnel.
Always follow the operating instructions.
Check the hydraulic ram and all accessories carefully before
use. Never use even slightly damaged components.
Make sure all air has been removed from the hydraulic
system, before putting the equipment under pressure.
Only use the hydraulic ram with the SKF pullers.
Always use a pressure gauge.
Always prevent the workpiece/tool from being projected upon
sudden release of pressure.
Do not exceed the maximum permitted hydraulic pressure.
Use personal protection equipment, such as protective
glasses and gloves (e.g. TMBA G11W).
Never modify the unit.
Use original parts only.
Only use clean, recommended hydraulic oils (e.g. SKF
LHMF 300 or similar oils with low viscosity).
In case of any uncertainties as regards the use of the
hydraulic ram, contact SKF.

1. Application
The SKF hydraulic ram TMHR 8 can be used for the force generation in
SKF pullers type TMMA 8, TMHP 8, TMBS 100/150 and TMHC 108.
For pressure generation it requires a separate hand pump (e.g. SKF
729124 or TMJL 100) or an air-driven pump (e.g. TMJA 70). The
maximum force it can generate is the equivalent to 80 kN (8 metric tons
or 18.000 lbf).

2. Description
The TMHR 8 comes with an UN 1,5", 16 thread per inch thread which
fits the TMMA 8, TMHP 8 and TMBS 100/150. For easy connection to
the oil supply it is provided with a quick connection nipple which fits with
all SKF hydraulic pumps.
The piston has an automatic spring return facilitating automatic
contraction of the piston once the release valve on the pump is opened.
The hydraulic ram set (TMHR 8/SET) is supplied with a range of
extensions pieces and a nose piece, where as the TMHR 8 is only
provided with a nose piece.

4. Before use
4.1 General check
Read the warnings and instructions to prevent personal injury or
damage to property. Take all appropriate safety precautions and wear
suitable personal protection equipment, such as gloves (TMBA G11W),
safety glasses, etc. SKF accepts no liability for injury or the
consequences of using SKF products without taking suitable safety
precautions, using the product for the wrong application, or through
inadequate maintenance. If in any doubt contact SKF or an authorised
SKF dealer.

4.2 Overloading
Make absolutely sure that the pressure supplied to the ram never
exceeds 70 MPa (10.000 psi). We recommend the use of pressure
gauges with any hydraulic system to ensure that it is operated within its
safe working range. Overloading may damage the equipment and cause
personal injury. Avoid loading a ram when it is fully extended as this
causes unfavourable stresses.
Use of a hydraulic oil with low viscosity increases the piston return
speed.
Do not connect a hydraulic pump to a hydraulic system that returns
more oil than the reservoir of the pump can hold.
4.3 Hoses
Do not let hoses become twisted or sharply bent.
If hoses are badly bent or twisted it may lead to internal rupture and
excessive wear. Do not let sharp or heavy objects rest on the hose or
run over it. Never lift or carry hydraulic components by the hose or
connections, or carry hand pumps by the lever unless it is fitted with a
lever lock.

5. Operating instructions
a) Bleeding the hydraulic system.
Air can collect in the hydraulic system when hoses or tools are
connected and this can lead to problems in operation. To bleed the
system run the ram through 3 - 4 cycles (pumping to full extension
then releasing) without any load. At the same time make sure that
the tool or ram is kept lower then the pump so that air can travel
back to the oil reservoir in the pump. Top up the pump with oil if
necessary.
b) Remove the plastic thread protection cap.
c) Thread the ram completely into the puller.
d) Return the piston to starting position by allowing the oil to return into
the pump oil reservoir.
e) Position the puller on the application.
f) If necessary, insert extension pieces. Always place at the end a nose
piece.
g) Generate the force by pumping hydraulic oil in the ram. Make sure
that the nose pieces is centred correctly on the application and the
load is applied in a straight line, perpendicular to the surface. Avoid
uneven loading. Uneven loading puts unfavourable stresses on the
ram, may lead to permanent damage and is dangerous.

6. Maintenance
Hydraulic equipment must be serviced and maintained regularly to keep
it in good working condition. For safety reasons it is important that
hydraulic products are serviced and maintained by experienced
personnel. If in any doubt, contact your dealer for information about the
nearest authorised service agent. Always use original SKF spare parts.
Lubricate moving parts as necessary with a high quality grease. Always
use high quality hydraulic oil such as SKF LHMF 300.
6.1 Heat
Avoid exposing hydraulic equipment to temperatures higher than 50 C.
Heat can destroy gaskets and hoses.
6.2 Storage
When hydraulic equipment is not in use:
Clean the equipment, make sure the hydraulic system is not pressurized
and store it somewhere clean and free from damp. Make sure the
equipment is not subject to extremes of temperature and humidity.
Takes measures to protect against corrosion.
