Target Audience

Age?
My film will be aimed at a young audience, perhaps in their 20s. This is
because the characters who will perform in the film will most likely be
this sort of age or older and therefore wont be relatable to teens as its
helpful if the audience can find similarities with the characters. It will
also not be appropriate for older people as there may be scenes where things jump out.
It will be aimed at young adults as they seek thrill and this excites and intrigues younger
people rather than older.
The age certificate for my film will be a *15* but aimed at an audience of young adults
between the ages of 15 and 30, mainly in their 20s.

Gender?
I think I will aim my film at both genders, but mainly males. This is because the horror
genre is generally aimed at males as they are stereotypically less feared and seek thrill
more than females do. Some horror films are aimed at couples, for example, Cabin in
the Woods. As violence is a key element of most horror films, the male generation tend
to be more interested in this. People tend to watch horror films as a group and not alone
so my film will be aimed at a group of friends or perhaps couples.

Profession/ Income/ Education?
Horror films arent aimed at a well-educated audience as they tend to seek more sub-
genres than less educated people do. However, in my opening, it may include some
extra thinking and therefore has to be for people who can do this and not just sit and
watch it.
This is Joe and Rosie. These people would be
the typical audience member for my film. This is
because they fall between the targeted age of
15-30. They are also a couple, which horror
films are occasionally aimed at. This is because
horror films are rarely watched alone. They
both have good jobs and are well-educated
enabling them to understand whats going on in
the film. These people enjoy both going out and
socialising, but also enjoy quiet nights in. Visiting the cinema is an activity they enjoy,
and would be interested in the horror genre. My film would also be planned to be
watched of an evening at home, and couples often enjoy this and therefore would again
be interested in my film.

I have created a focus group which includes 20 15 to 30 year olds, both male and
female. I asked them to complete the questionnaire shown below. This enabled me to
see if the target audience I have decided on is correct and appropriate.
