Course Objectives:
• Develop awareness and understanding on techniques and approaches in calculating and
accounting for costs.
• Understand the use of cost accounting product costing and stock valuation.

Synopsis of this course:


The emphasis of this course is on costing of products and services in an organisation.
Amongst topics to be covered are elements of costs, costing methods and approaches,
cost allocations, recording, calculating and preparation of cost accounts.

Grading Policy:
The Final grade will be based on:
Final Exams 60 %
Quizzes/ assignment 20 %
Midterm Test 20 %
Total 100 %

Quizzes/ Midterm Test:


The current planned quizzes and tests schedule is as outlined in the Schedule of
Readings. However, the dates are subject to change and may be announced later in
the semester.

General Exam Policy:


Quizzes: Two quizzes will be given during tutorial classes. Students are advised to
attend tutorial classes regularly as no back-up quizzes will be provided.

Midterm test: One test will be given. Midterm will be on Friday, 09/01/2009
from 3.00pm– 4.30pm @ DP1. No back-up tests will be provided.
Replacement Class:
There are few public holidays affecting our class schedule and hence, students need
to be prepared for replacement classes. Those classes may be scheduled when the
semester starts.

Misconduct:
The document Policies and Procedures Relating to Academic Misconduct in the College
of Business Management shall apply to this course. Case study may be discussed
between students/groups in order to help each other gain a greater understanding of
the material. However, copying another classmate’s work is prohibited.
