The Jacoby Creek Land Trust conserves land in and around Northern Humboldt Bay to promote healthy
creek environments, watershed protection, and sustainable agriculture that is embraced and valued by the
local community.

On September 13
th
, Epsilon Upsilon Chapter continued its longtime partnership with the group by bringing
potential new members along to perform maintenance activities in Bayside, between Arcata and Eureka.

Sisters from all over the country joined 25,000 runners in San Francisco on Sunday, October 19th for the Nike Womens Half Marathon. Berta
Icabalceta and Rosmary Posada-Saldana are pledge sisters from South Florida. Karina Coscuna travelled from Texas. Erika Woodland, Lindsey
Solenberger, Rose McGovern, Lizzy DeRushe, Jamie LeBow, Kacie Flynn, Kimmy Sweet, Kavita Nandra, Sydney Newton, and Sarah Bredall all
came from Northern California. Berta and Kimmy raised funds through Team In Training (TNT), supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Custom D Phi E t-shirts and tank tops arrived just in time for the race. Athena Perez from the Emory chapter, now a resident of Chicago,
introduced herself to a group of sisters at the starting line. There was another woman who identified herself as a sister from New Orleans during
the race.
Each runners name was displayed in the window of the Nike store at Union Square, and a tank top, reusable bag, water bottle, and other swag
were provided. All finishers received a Tiffany chain and pendant engraved with event info on one side and iconic San Francisco sights on the
other.
There was also an expo with shopping and photo opportunities, lunch at Cheesecake Factory, and lots of sponsor-provided samples before,
during, and after the event. Most of the ladies shared hotel rooms and went to an Italian dinner together on Saturday night, along with Julie
Harrell and Bertas husband, Rodney.
Homecoming was a success! We had a great turn out of both alumni and actives.
Despite a bumpy start with RULES, everything worked itself out! The Jacks shut out
South Dakota with an incredible win! Thank you to all who attended and brought
goodies to share! Now we know what to expect for next year.
Humboldt Homecoming Weekend
Nike Womens Half Marathon San Francisco
The sisters of Epsilon Upsilon participated in this years HSU
Homecoming Parade. Andrea Barrera coordinated the float assembly
with the help of Chapter President Vanessa Silva. The success of the
float could not have been completed without the time and dedication
of these two women. They brought out the HSU Spirit in harmony
with the EY Sisterhood and gave the chapter and Alums a beautiful
representation of school & sorority pride. The float and parade were
a huge success!

Beth Bailey was a California Alumnae Association delegate at her first Biennial Convention, held at Disneys Coronado Springs Resort in
July. She reported that it was an amazing experience that reaffirmed the power of sisterhood. The weekend was full of networking,
information, and celebration.
Beth served on the Resolutions Committee, which collects stories during the event to share at the closing breakfast on Sunday morning.
Here are a few of the 2014 resolutions:
We resolve that no matter what chapter you come from that sisterhood knows no distance....basically, you're instant best friends!
We resolve that all sisters here commit to bring a new face to the 2016 convention in Philly so that we in fact hit that mark of
doubling the total of this years convention!
We resolve to congratulate and thank the International Headquarters staff for planning this magical and enchanted convention...
Where else will you see a man with a tutu, a unicorn backpack, and of course a unicorn hoodie?!
The resolutions included shout-outs to the many women who planned the event, donated to the Foundation, and put their spirit into
making Convention fun for everyone. The attendees were treated to exciting events like the traditional Awards Banquet (with Disney
characters!) and T-shirt auction, solemn gatherings such as Grand Chapter and the Reaffirmation Ritual, as well as the following
informational sessions:

Convention
Attending Convention inspired Beth to stay involved with CAA and
represent D Phi E on her local Alumnae Panhellenic (APH). Thank
you for allowing me to represent our group. I plan to attend
Convention 2016 in Philadelphia and hope to see all of you there!

Sacramento
In September, the Humboldt alumnae painted pottery at Parasol Arts
and then went to Arts Alive in Old Town Eureka.

The Epsilon Upsilon Chapter invites alumnae to the following events:

Chapter Anniversary 12/10

Formal is tentatively set for 4/11/15 at Blue Lake Casino.
Humboldt
Barbara Trageser is working on reaching out to as many sisters as possible and providing at least a monthly opportunity to get together. In
September, she planned a potluck lunch with the hopes of reconnecting. Only Janet Huggins was able to stop by, but she and Barbara took
some time to catch up and talk about some ideas for getting sisters together.
In October a scavenger hunt on the San Diego waterfront had been scheduled. There was quite a bit of interest, but because of scheduling
issues, that event was postponed. Look for a new date in the spring! Fortunately, Gina Curtis was in town on a short vacation, so Gina, Jeanne
Konijn, Janessa Gruby, Kristin Chinn Franco and Barbara got together for an evening of catching up. Barbara said It was wonderful both
reminiscing and sharing what is going in our lives now.
San Diego
In November, the ladies of San Diego will have brunch at Stone
Brewing World Bistro and Gardens in Escondido. They will be
gathering at 11am on November 9
th
. So far, at least four sisters
have said they're going. This could be a great opportunity for
sisters to catch up or to meet new people!
There will be no events in December, as the holidays are just too
hectic, but Barbara plans to pick back up in January. Check your

on Facebook for upcoming events.

Phoenix AA Chartering
On October 25
th
, Director of Alumnae Services Maureen Anderson and CAA
representatives Roberta Salin and Rose McGovern attended a celebration brunch,
followed by installation of the Phoenix Alumnae Association. A handful of women are
from California chapters, but the rest came from across the country.

Sydney Newton, Petaluma, CA
I currently live with my boyfriend's family while I settle into my new job as the Community Development Director for the Girl Scouts of Northern California
overseeing Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Sonoma, and Napa. Hobbies include sewing, event planning, shopping, and scrapbooking. Since I can no longer
volunteer with the Girl Scouts (I get paid instead!) I am looking to volunteer with a local youth cheer team.
We are traveling to Southern California in December. Cancun and Vegas in the Spring! Maybe Alaska... Getting this sweet new job has been a great
accomplishment! I also bought a new 2015 Ford Mustang to celebrate!

Rose McGovern, Roseville, CA
My husband Ian, our cats, Quentin and Queenie, and I have lived in the Sacramento area since 2003. Ive been at Verizon Wireless for nearly ten years,
earning my MBA at UC Davis CPA license during that time. In my free time I socialize cats and dogs at the Placer SPCA. Lindsey Solenberger and I crossed
the finish line together at the Nike Half in SF. I ran the Avenue of the Giants Marathon in May, and will do another full the day after Christmas in LA.
We are looking forward to time with our best friends from D Phi E and HSU at a holiday gathering in Phoenix and a birthday celebration in Jamaica in
April. I am active with the CAA and Sacramento Alumnae Panhellenic, and recently began volunteering for D Phi E IHQ.

Kacie Flynn, Arcata, CA
I live with my cousin Katie & her 4 geckos. I was born and raised in Bakersfield, and moved to Arcata 9 years ago. I love it here and have no plans to
move. I work at Humboldt State University Full-Time in the Sponsored Programs Foundation doing grant administration; I work at Morris Graves Museum
of Art Part-Time as special events consultant on weddings, and I teach for HSU Upward Bound Program as the Art Instructor during their summer
academy.
This will be the start of my 5th year volunteering as the Chapter Advisor for Epsilon Upsilon & second year as VP Collegiate with the CAA. In my free time
Ive taken up running, with my fellow D Phi E runners. I also try to make time for my Art, though it often gets pushed to the backburner more than I like
with my busy schedule. I just completed three years on HSU Staff Council, the last of which I served as President. I was elected onto the University
Senate last spring, and have now begun a three year term as a Staff Senator. Only recent travel was to San Fran to run with my sisters in the Nike Half
Marathon!!!

Linda Hyman, Tarzana, CA
I have always lived in the Southern California area, attending UCLA as a collegian. I taught Home Economics, stopped teaching when my children were
young, and when I went back to work, found myself in an accounting office. I am retiring after 33 years. By the end of January, I will be available for
the Friday Mahj game with my D Phi E sisters. (Its in writing Roberta and Janet). Not sure Ill love it, but will give it a try.
I have many interests including traveling to see our children and grandchildren, attending the symphony and opera (with one of my dearest friends, also a
D Phi E) and am always available for a trip to the museum and or the theater. I needlepoint, but do not paint, knit or crochet. I love taking photographs.
I always have time for coffee with a friend. As Im typing this I realize that most of the women I spend my time with are sorority sisters. Truly a gift.
Possibly by the time you read this, I will have been to Israel and Paris. My few days in Paris will be spent with a sorority sister who lives there. Arent
you glad you are a D Phi E? I sure am.

Barbara Trageser, San Marcos, CA
I'm a San Diego native who, after spending 12 years in the Pacific Northwest (Eureka/Arcata and Port Angeles/Sequim, Wash.), moved back to sunny
Southern California in 2006. I have settled in San Diego's North County, with my husband, Jim, and my three children, Elizabeth, 13, Connor, 11, and
Clara, 6. I also have two adult stepchildren who live close by.
I am a copy editor/news service editor at the local newspaper, U-T San Diego. When I'm not working, helping out at school or volunteering with Boy
Scouts and Girl Scouts, I like to work in my vegetable garden, walk, hike or read, and am hoping to get back into ballet soon! I'm also getting involved in
the North County/Escondido Alumnae Panhellenic group, which raises money for scholarships and supports Got Your Back San Diego, a weekend food
assistance program for children attending San Diego County Schools who have been identified as homeless or food-insecure.

Gina Curtis, Mesa, AZ
I grew up in Thousand Oaks, CA, and after graduating in Fall 1998, moved to the Atlanta, Portland, Miami, and Las Vegas areas, before settling near
Phoenix. My husband and fellow Humboldt State alum, Steve, likes to say that Im a true Delta Sigma Phi sweetheart. We reconnected with over martinis
and shepards pie in 2004, got married, and added a sweet pug and two wonderful boys and to our family.
I am active with the CAA, Phoenix Alumnae Association, and the Phoenix Alumnae Panhellenic, and recently began volunteering for D Phi E IHQ. We really
enjoy vacationing, and have been to many domestic and European cities, as well as the Caribbean and Mexican Riviera. Our next major trip will be
Jamaica.

One of the gifts I have been given in life is the gift of friendship and sisterhood through my affiliation with
Delta Phi Epsilon. My pledge sisters have been enriching my life for more than fifty years. My newer
sisters, through my active participation as an alumna, have been a gift I cherish. I could not have
anticipated how much they mean to me and how much caring, support and love they have brought into my
life. Although we have different lives, our sorority history and traditions give us a common bond.
That special gift generates responsibility. We are encouraged to care for the bonds, traditions and
sisterhood. We can do that by making sure Delta Phi Epsilon remains viable. One way it is done is by
ensuring financial viability. Please pay your alumnae dues. We have more women than ever
understanding the importance of paying their alumnae dues. Thank you to those who have paid their
2014-15 dues.

A Note from Linda Hyman
The California Alumnae Association supports the Epsilon Upsilon Chapter and expands the
representation of Delta Phi Epsilon on the West Coast. Alumnae living in California are welcome to join
the CAA, regardless of Chapter affiliation. We also encourage sisters from California chapters to
maintain their membership while out of state.
Officers run the organization as a whole, while Area Coordinators plan local events. Members may
attend events in any area, and occasionally two or three coordinators co-host events.
Delta Lambda and Epsilon Upsilon also hold reunions for their own members. Being a part of the CAA is
a great way to make sure you hear about these events.
The CAA is one of the most successful Alumnae Associations in the Sorority! We have been
represented at the last three Biennial Conventions and hope to continue demonstrating our strength to
IHQ and serving as a role model for other Alumnae Associations. This strengthens IHQs ability to
eventually reopen or add chapters on the west coast.

We are currently waiting to hear back from the actives to increase their involvement with the Adopt-A-
Sister campaign. We have plenty of alumni who have provided me with their information. You will receive
