Internship at TMIB

Internship during the under graduation is a mandatory 6-credit course in IUB and a
prerequisite, just prior to your bachelors degree.
It is a fully job-based intensive program, and the internship can be considered as an n-
!ob training, done in any course-related firm"company, under the supervision of a top-
management " manager #both in public and private sector$. %ormally it lasts for & months
and can be even e'tended if the performance of the intern is more than" above
satisfactory, as evaluated by the employer.
In IUB, students peruse their internship in the financial institutions( Ban) or *easing
+irms, in the ,elecom perators( -., Bangla *in), /itycell, etc or public companies(
.o0er 1evelopment Board, ,%,. I along 0ith 2 of my friends had the marvelous
opportunity as 0e found ourselves finally ma)ing it through the doorstep of ,3IB,
45tel, presently )no0n as 6BI.
I can still clearly picture us in the last semester of 7,7#7lectronics and ,elecom
7ngineering$ in the year 899:, 1ecember, 0aiting for a call for intervie0 from 45tel,
0ith an impatient heart and frantic hopes of a bright career.
4nd the day finally arrived; 0e 0ere called for an intervie0 after getting selected in the
0ritten test of %/ #%et0or) peration /enter$, ,echnical 1ivision of ,3IB; but just
on that day 0e had our last final e'am< =hat luc)< >ery fortunately our faculties and the
co-coordinator themselves 0ere so happy that they allo0ed us to sit for the e'am at any
date of convenience.
,he intervie0 0as great and 0e came bac) to /hittagong 0ithin the ne't ?8 hours of
attending the intervie0. 6eason( =e 0ere told to join immediately 0ithin the ne't 8
days<
,hus our journey of first ever professional e'perience begun 0ith such a dramatic haste,
but there 0as not a single drop of enthrallment missing< @es, 0e 0ere quite e'hausted at
the end of the four years enduring engineering tenure, but that 0as quite nothing to the
mesmeriAing challenges 0e )ne0 0ere thro0n ahead of us to grab on<
+inally 0e reached our destination( the technical division of ,3IB( %/ at 3ascot
.laAa, Uttara, 1ha)a.
I 0as astonished to have found myself as the sole female identity in the 0hole office< But
I 0as very much valued for the ne't B months in my department, more than I could
imagine.
,here 0ere many slots in %/( BCC /ore, %CC /ore, .o0er and Bac)bone support and
I 0as given the single responsibility of creating, updating records and maintaining a
0hole ne0 database, then analyAe and interpret the records for %/s Digher
3anagement.
,he first one 0ee) 0as adjustment periods for the four of us( getting familiariAed 0ith
the 0or)ing environment, colleagues, senior management and officials, in integrating
ourselves 0ith the corporate practices and organiAational cultures, and finally ma)ing it
to emerge out as one of ,D73<
3y other three friends 0ere all assigned 0ith the po0er slot to handle po0er failures, in
the net0or) elements, realiAing and identifying different fire"smo)e alarms, and resolving
them through sending 0eb-sms to the Aonal 7ngineers, at different regions of
Bangladesh. Cometimes the %/ official had to run to spot and spend hours as long as
?8"89 hours in resolving a critical issue( optical fiber line disruption.
Co guys, you can no0 clearly visualiAe that 0e 0ere actually based at the heart " core of
,3IB from 0here the 0hole net0or) system of 45tel could be monitored, and
controlled.
7ach and every person used to 0or) relentlessly 0ith full heart-felt support and
dedication in providing their valued customers 0ith their much anticipated net0or)
coverage and other value-added services at every corner of the country.
I 0ould rather say that these people 0ith facing so many major"critical net0or)s related
problems"failures are the real super-heroes for a service-oriented industry li)e telecom.
,he normal"general mass cannot just imagine the hard slog and the labor given to provide
a clear, smooth operating service to the customers.
=e the interns forgot during that B months time that 0e 0ere there merely for a very
short period as learners and 0anted to be a proud member of such a reputed multinational
firm. I remember 0or)ing as late as Epm-?9 pm at night, starting from Eam in the
morning, 0hen there 0ere major node disconnection "po0er failure issues.
Dardly have 0e ta)en any vacation, for 0e used to enjoy, 0or)ing and learning ne0
things daily and also because of the fact that F%/ never sleepsG.
II heard our supervisor telling us( F=e 0or) every day, there is nothing called holiday in
%/, and not even on the eid days. Indeed, true it is very much based on the fact that (
mobile usage and operations ever stops even on holidays and customers never stops
ma)ing calls, or bro0sing g the net, 0hatever be the occasion.
But even amidst such busy hours, 0e managed time for ourselves, roaming around in the
city at night after 0or), occasionally stopping-over the pitha-shop#as it 0as 0inter$,
sometimes visiting the residential par) for an evening 0al) or snea)ing in the lunch-
brea) in the near-by food court.
4ll in all those four months, 0ere both enthralling and a unique e'perience for us 0hich I
am really sure 0ould help us in standing competitively at the core professional level,
any0here around the globe.
