INTEGRATED TERM PROJECT
(TOPIC- Visual narration and story telling through graphic novels)

What is visual narration?
Visual + narrative
A visual narrative is a type of story that is told primarily or entirely through
visual media, such as photographs, illustrations, or video. There are no
restrictions on the types of narratives that can be made in a visual manner
a visual narrative can be fiction or nonfiction of any genre.

Graphic novels are books written and illustrated in the style of a comic book.
The term graphic novel was first popularized by Will Eisner to distinguish his
book A Contract with God (1978) from collections of newspaper comic strips.
He described graphic novels as consisting of sequential arta series of
illustrations which, when viewed in order, tell a story.

The purpose of a graphic novel is to provide a new way of understanding
concepts, ideas and data through visual language. Because our brains are
wired for pictures, info graphics are understood differently than text alone.
Oden, a visual promotes a unique way of thinking about information because
were able to perceive new relationships, improve our analysis and form
different interpretations.

Graphic novels powerfully attract and motivate kids to read. Many librarians
have built up graphic novel collections and have seen circulation figures soar.
Graphic novels with rich, complex plots and narrative structures can also be
satisfying to advanced readers. In fact, graphic novels are flexible enough that
oden the same titles can be equally appealing to both reluctant and advanced
readers. Providing young people of all abilities with diverse reading materials,
including graphic novels, can help them become lifelong readers.
Graphic novels can dramatically help improve reading development for
students struggling with language acquisition, including special-needs
students, as the illustrations provide contextual clues to the meaning of the
written narrative. They can provide autistic students with clues to emotional
context that they might miss when reading traditional text

DELIVERABLE- To produce an illustrative book (graphic novel) that
shows different events happening in NIFT by applying concepts of visual
narration, storytelling and graphic design.
METHODOLOGY- my primary research included a general survey, which
helped me gather information from a large number of people.
A questionnaire was also developed to know the opinion of the people.
Interviews- these were face-to-face or over the Internet interviews.
Observations- observing people provided an insight and assisted me in
gaining specific information.
My survey basically included questions to the audience about:-
Do they know about graphic novels?
How many of them find graphic novels interesting?
Do they prefer graphic novels to text-based novels?
