This is a lesson on the culture of bullfighting. This lesson will give students the information they need to understand how a bullfight is arranged. This lesson will give students new knowledge on vocabulary related to bullfighting. This lesson will be a lesson related to culture that is taught throughout the year. Students can use their knowledge from this lesson to form opinions about bullfighting, and other controversial topics that they may come across in their studies.
Class Profile:
The students in this class are all tenth graders, there are 9 students in this class. They have learned about a variety of cultural topics throughout their Spanish career. These students are able to read and write in Spanish, and study vocabulary often.

Day 1 40 minute block 1. Do Now: a. Hook: Teacher will read The Story of Ferdinand b. Teacher will ask students to share their opinions about bullfighting. (checking for understanding directions) 2. Instruction a. The teacher will give students a guided worksheet to fill in as she talks. The teacher will provide students with the definitions and words to go along with the pictures about bullfighting. 3. Practice a. Students will group up using famous pairs (students will each be given a piece of paper with either a new vocabulary word, or a picture. They have to find the match to their word or picture.) (kinesthetic) The teacher will walk around and check to make sure everyone has found the correct partner. (checking for understanding directions) Once settled, the teacher will hand students a brief handout about the history of bullfighting (each group will have a different bit of information). (21 st ) Short stories will have both written words, and pictures to accompany the story. (visual) b. Students will read their short stories with their partner, and choose 3 facts to share with the class.(auditory), (checking for understanding procedures/routines) (CSE) c. After 10 minutes, the teacher will call students back to the group to discuss the facts they found most interesting. If time permits, the teacher will share pictures of an actual bullfight that she attended. 4. Closure: a. Using an index card, students will use the last 5 mins of class to write a postcard to someone telling them at least two facts about bullfighting that they learned today, must include at least 2 new vocabulary words and what they mean.
