Dunn Loring Woods Civic Association (DLWCA) March/April 2013

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Well, we moved our clocks ahead in preparation
for spring but we did not get through the winter
without a snowstorm and the children did have a
chance to play in the snow.

In this newsletter you will see a notice about an
important membership meeting on May 21 at
Stenwood Elementary. At this meeting we will
elect new officers for the DLWCA and announce
the winners of our annual scholarships. If you
are interested in any of the positions on the
board: president, vice president, secretary or
treasurer or serving on the board, please see the
article on page 3 and information about the
scholarship program is on pages 3 and 4.

Tax season is here and you can get free help with
tax return and electronic filing right here in
Vienna.

One of our neighbors has relocated to Georgia.

Electric Sunday pick-up is coming up in April
and by popular demand, our annual yard sale is
scheduled for May.

JEAN MOORE MOVES TO GEORGIA

We recently learned that Jean Moore, a long
time resident of Dunn Loring Woods, has
moved to Georgia to be closer to her
daughter. Jean was an original owner in
Dunn Loring Woods and has been on the
board of the
Dunn Loring
Woods Civic
Association for
more years than
we can count.
For many years
Jean was also a
volunteer at the
Shepherd Center
and at the local
chapter of AARP.
She is perhaps
best known for serving as the newsletter
editor for the Dunn Loring Woods Civic
Association and was always there to greet you
at the DLWCA membership meetings.

Jean was born in Tacoma Park, Maryland
but lived in Vienna with her family of six
children. She now has many grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. Volunteering has
always been a part of Jeans life. She worked
with the Girls Scouts since 1939 and went on
numerous camping trips during her more
active years cooking for over 200 girl scouts
on many occasions. She ran a printing
business for 34 years, thus her involvment
with newsletters. She was a Democratic
Election Judge for 28 years, and was involved
with the PTA for 25 years. We all wish Jean
the best in her new home in Georgia. If you
would like to contact Jean in Georgia, please
get in touch with Pat Stout at
nanabumpa2545@aol.com or call Pat at 703-
573-9293.

DLWCA ANNUAL ELECTIONS

The annual election of DLWCA officers and board members will take place at the May 21 annual membership
meeting. Some of the existing officers and board members have diligently served on the board and/or as officers
for a number of years and now are planning on stepping aside to pursue other interests. This will result in
critical vacancies that must be filled in order for the DLWCA to effectively serve DLW and its residents. We are
also looking for an assistant newsletter editor. Serving as a volunteer in the DLWCA is a rewarding way to
contribute to your community and make a difference, and it doesnt take a lot of time. Please give participation
careful consideration to serving on the board and contact Melvin Rose at 703-573-2076 or any of the other board
members, officers or committee leaders listed in your DLWCA directory for information on positions that may
interest you.

ELECTRIC SUNDAY APRIL 28, 2013

The Civic Association will once again offer pickup of Electronics in Dunn Loring Woods. The volunteers will
begin driving thru the neighborhood from 10:30 am and will stop the canvassing at 1:30 pm. Please have your
items at the curb by 10:00 am and NLT 1:00 pm for the final sweep thru the neighborhood. We will pick up the
following items: televisions, computers and peripheral devices including keyboards, speakers, printers,
external drives and other such materials and unbroken fluorescent light bulbs and tubes.

If you have any item that is heavy, we need to know that and you can either email Barry.Schwartz4@verizon.net
that info or call Pat Stout at 703-573-9293.
