File-Based Content Submissions

T E C HNI C A L S P E C I F I C AT I ONS
DG accepts a wide range of le types for ingest into our
content management and distribuon plaorm, including
MPEG-2, Apple ProRes, and DNxHD. DG has cered
submission specicaons for each le type to ensure
your video maintains the highest quality throughout its
lifecycle. Weve developed these specicaons to allow
for variance without jeopardizing that goal.
DG has mulple submission paths designed to t your
and your clients workows. Your DG Client Manager can
help you determine if DropBox, Media Service Desk, or
DG local FTP is the most appropriate path for you, but
the following oers a general guide.
Use DropBox for spots that require no additional preparation
(e.g. captioning, watermarking) and are distribution-ready.
Use DG local FTP for spots that require DG to perform
additional content preparation or other production services
work, such as captioning, watermarking, or versioning.

GENERAL SPECI FI CATI ONS
File structure
One spot per file
Minimum 1 second of black / silence
5 seconds of slate
2 seconds of black / silence
Content
Minimum 1 second of black / silence
Ad code and file naming conventions
The ISCI / Ad-ID for an HD spot must end with H.
The ISCI / Ad-ID for the HD and SD versions of the same spot
must be identical.
The ISCI / Ad-ID must not be less than 3 characters or more
than 15 characters, including the terminal H for HD content.
Note: Some stations set their own maximum for allowed
characters. Check with the broadcaster for details.
The filename must match the ISCI / Ad-ID - e.g., for ISCI /
Ad-ID ABCD1234, the name would be ABCD1234.MPG or
ABCD1234.MOV.
The filename must contain only alphanumeric characters.
The file extension must be .MOV or .MPG.
Slate requirements
Ad code (ISCI / Ad-ID), Title, Length
Closed captioning (if applicable)
Do not include resolution (e.g., 1080i) on the slate.
ADDI TI ONAL I NFORMATI ON
Caption data must begin in the first frame of video of the
spot with a paint on command. Use of pop on or paint
on commands prior to the first frame of video will result in
the loss of the first line of captioning.
In accordance with ATSC A/85, audio loudness should be -24
LKFS with all channels except LFE measured for the length
of the spot using the ITU-R BS.1770-2. ATSC A/85 states
a variation of +/- 2dB should be expected and should be
acceptable. Content loudness must not be targeted to the
high or low end of the range. Note that some broadcasters
do not allow tolerance or variation and reject spots that do
not measure -24 LKFS. To ensure all broadcasters will accept
the loudness level, content should be mixed for an overall
-24 LKFS.
Audio must not lead or lag video by more than 2 ms.
DG recommends submitting all HD content with center-
cut protection based on the SMPTE RP 2046-2 definition
of 90/90 4:3 title-safe areas. Spots that are not center-cut
protected are at risk of being rejected by broadcasters,
running in postage stamp format, or having critical
content - including legal - cropped during down-conversion.
