The project, Maintenance of Lekamboli road is an undertaking under Transport Sector
Development Project (TSDP), and being managed by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) through the Central Project Implementation Unit (CPIU) composing of MID staff, SKM and ADB Consultants.
The project road is expected to be improved to a maintainable condition, a road maintenance program is established, national contractors have gained improved capacity to implement roadworks and MID have improved its ability to administer road projects and conduct road maintenance program.
The project will support transport sector development leading to economic growth and poverty reduction in the project area. It is expected to make socio-economic facilities more accessible, reduce travel time and costs, and improve planning and project implementation in the road sector.
The project is awarded to RDM Construction in the amount of SBD 661,397.00 with four (4) months specific works and twelve (12) months routine maintenance works. The official starting date is September 1, 2014 and to be completed on December 31, 2015. RDM Construction is represented by Mr. Roger D. Monroe as the Managing Director and Engr. John Doe as the Project Manager with office address at Hyundai Mall, Honiara, Guadalcanal.
The activities of CPIU during this report ( September 1 30, 2014 ) are the following:
1. Checking of Contractors program of work and traffic and environment management plans, 2. Performed joint as-staked survey of proposed works, 3. Performed tests on base course stockpiles, coarse and fine aggregates and boulder stones, and 4. Supervision of Contractors activities on the construction of stone masonry wall, repair of damaged pavements and cleaning of manholes.
The activities of the Contractor during the period (September 1 30, 2014) are the following:
1. Preparation of traffic and environmental management plan, 2. As-staked survey of proposed works with MID staff, 3. Construction of stone masonry wall at CH 0+410 to CH 0+435, 4. Repair of damaged pavements at CH 0+257 to CH 0+275, 5. Cleaning of drainage inlet structures at CH 0+14.5, CH 0+31.6 and at CH 0+255.
The setting-out of proposed stone masonry wall at CH 0+410 was delayed due to the opposition of the residents that was affected by the road widening. However, due to intervention of MID Director as well as the CPIU safeguards team, the residents were convinced that the work is for the good of the travelling public.
