Last date for submitting the application to the Director, Directorate of Admissions,
Osmania University, Hyderabad – 500007 :

Ph.D. Eligibility Test:2009-10 is being conducted by Osmania University for admission into Ph.D. programmes offered by
it in different subjects in the faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Commerce, Management, Science, Oriental Languages,
Education and Law. A list of subjects in which the Ph.D. Eligibility Test will be conducted along with corresponding subject
code numbers is given in annexure.

1. Eligibility Conditions:
To be eligible to appear for Ph.D. Eligibility Test being conducted by Osmania University in the subjects pertaining to
faculties mentioned above, the candidate must have passed the Master’s degree in the concerned subject with a
minimum of 55% marks (50% marks in case of SC/ST candidates).

Note 1: The memorandum of marks of qualifying examination is not called for along with the application for the Ph.D.
eligibility test and the eligibility of the candidates is not verified at the time of allowing the candidates to appear for the
eligibility test. Hence, even if the candidates are qualified in the eligibility test, they shall not have any right for
admission unless they fulfill the eligibility criteria as laid in the rules. Candidates are advised to ensure that they fulfill
all the eligibility conditions before they apply for the eligibility test.

Note 2: Candidates with M.Phil. degree (through regular mode) in concerned subject or in an allied subject (approved
by Osmania University) or those who have qualified in UGC NET / CSIR-UGC NET / SLET (conducted by A.P.) need not
apply for Ph.D. eligibility test.

2. Eligibility Test Pattern:


The Ph.D. eligibility test:2009-10 shall consist of one paper in the concerned subject with maximum marks of 100.
The duration of the test is 3 hours. The paper consists of :
a) 10 short type questions under Section-A for 60 marks (10 x 6 marks ), and
b) 4 essay type questions under Section-B for 40 marks (4 x 10 marks).
The medium of eligibility test is English except for language subjects.

3. Submission of applications for Ph.D. Eligibility Test : 2009-10 & Details of Registaration fee:
Filled in application and ICR summary sheet (a sample filled in ICR summary sheet is enclosed herewith) along with
a Demand Draft towards registration fee and other relevant enclosures as mentioned in the application form should
reach The Director, Directorate of Admissions, Near University Press, Osmania University, Hyderabad – 500007
on or before the last dates mentioned above. The Demand Draft towards the registration fee drawn on any nationalized
bank must be in favour of “The Director, Directorate of Admissions, Osmania University” and payable at Hyderabad.
The registration fee per each subject is Rs. 500/- (Rs.300/- for SC/ST candidates). However, for applications
downloaded from OU website, the registration fee (which includes application cost) is Rs. 550/- (Rs. 350/- for SC/ST
candidates). Without a demand draft for the requisite registration fee the application is liable to be rejected.

4. Syllabus for eligibility test:


The syllabus along with model papers in various subjects for Ph.D. Eligibility Test will be made available on Osmania
University’s website, www.osmania.ac.in. Candidates may download the syllabus of the concerned subject from
Osmania University website.

5. Hall tickets for the eligibility test will be sent by post and will not be issued to the candidate in person. The university
is not responsible for non-receipt of hall tickets due to postal delay or due to loss in transit. In case of non-receipt of
hall ticket, duplicate hall ticket will be issued to the candidates two days before the eligibility test during office hours
on production of i) Acknowledgement card or proof of submission of application form, ii) one passport size photograph,
which is identical to one affixed on application form, and iii) cash of Rs.50/-.

6. The admission to Ph.D. course is subject to the rules and regulations in force from time to time. Qualifying in the Ph.D.
eligibility test does not alone guarantee admission to Ph.D. programme. The admission is subject to availability
of vacancies with the supervisors in the concerned departments. The admission to Ph.D. course is also open to
other candidates with M.Phil. degree (through regular mode) in concerned subject or in an allied subject (approved
by Osmania University) or those who have qualified in UGC NET / CSIR-UGC NET / SLET (conducted by A.P.).

7. The qualifying marks at the Ph.D. eligibility test will be 40% for general and backward class candidates and 30% in
case of SC/ST candidates. The eligibility certificate that will be issued to candidates will be valid till the next notification
of the Ph.D. Eligibility Test.

8. The candidates who qualify at the eligibility test and also those with M.Phil. degree (through regular mode) in
concerned subject or in an allied subject (approved by Osmania University) or those who have qualified in UGC NET
/ CSIR-UGC NET / SLET (conducted by A.P.) have to apply in response to a separate notification to be issued by the
Osmania University for the purpose of admission into Ph.D. programmes.

9. The tentative date and timings of eligibility test will be 28.02.2010 (10.00 am to 1.00 pm).
