INTRODUCTION
Overview
Your new ViviC am 3815 delivers high quality, 2304 x 1728 resolution im ages using a 4.0 M egapixel C C D
sensor. U sing either the optical view finder or the color im age LC D m onitor, you can com pose im ages and
then exam ine them in detail. A n auto-flash sensor autom atically detects the shooting (lighting) conditions and
determ ines w hether the flash should be used. This feature helps ensure that your im ages turn out right.
Internal (built-in) m em ory let you capture and store im ages w ithout the need for an additional m em ory card.
H ow ever, you m ay w ish to expand the m em ory capacity by using an external m em ory card.
In addition to still im ages, you can record short videos by using the m ovie function.
Im ages you have taken can be dow nloaded to your com puter using the U SB cable (A U SB driver is required for
W in 98 and M ac O S 8.6.) Y ou can enhance and retouch your im ages on your com puter by using the provided
editing softw are, or im age editing softw are you m ay already ow n. You m ay share your im ages w ith your friends via
e-m ail, in a report, or on a w ebsite.

PREPARING YOUR VIVICAM 3815
Installing the Batteries (Optional Accessory)
You can use 2 A A size batteries (either A lkaline or N i-M H ) to pow er your cam era.
B attery pow er is convenient for capturing im ages or recording video clips.
1. M ake sure your ViviC am 3815 is off.
2. Slide the battery/SD card cover in the direction of the arrow .
3. Insert the batteries noting the correct polarity m arks (+ or -).
4. C lose the battery/SD card cover land slide into locked position.
Note:
N ever use m anganese batteries.
N ever use different types of batteries (together) or m ix old and new batteries.
Avoid using the batteries in extrem ely cold environm ents as low tem peratures m ay shorten the battery life and
reduce the cam era perform ance.
Low tem perature w ill influence A lkaline battery perform ance, N i-M H rechargeable battery is recom m ended.
If you w ont be using the batteries for an extended period of tim e, rem ove them from the cam era to prevent the
leakage or corrosion.
N ew batteries or batteries that have not been used for an extended period of tim e (batteries that pass the
expiry date are exceptions) m ight affect the num ber of pictures that can be taken. Therefore, to m axim ize their
perform ance and lifetim e, w e recom m end that you fully charge the batteries and discharge them for at least
one com plete cycle before use.

Using an AC Power Adapter (Optional Accessory)
Theres another w ay to pow er your ViviC am 3815using an A C pow er adapter. A C pow er adapter is
recom m ended for long periods of continuous use or for transferring im ages to your com puter.
1. M ake sure your ViviC am 3815 is off.
2. O pen the port cover and connect one end of the A C pow er adapter
to the jack labeled D C IN .
3. C onnect the other end to an electrical outlet.
Note:
M ake sure to use only the A C pow er adapter specified for the ViviC am 3815. D am age caused by the use of an
incorrect adapter is not covered under the w arranty.
To prevent unexpected auto pow er off resulting from no battery pow er left during the process of transferring
your im ages to the com puter, use the A C pow er adapter as a pow er supply.
B atteries cannot be charged w hile the A C pow er adapter is being used to run the ViviC am 3815.

Loading an SD Memory Card (Optional Accessory)
Your cam era com es w ith internal m em ory, allow ing you to store
im ages and video clips in the ViviC am 3815. H ow ever, you can expand the
m em ory capacity by using an SD m em ory card. O ptional SD m em ory cards
provide rem ovable, reusable storage for im ages and video clips.
1. M ake sure your ViviC am 3815 is off.
2. O pen the SD card/battery cover.
3. Insert the SD m em ory card.
If the card cannot be inserted, check the orientation.
4. C lose the SD card/battery cover.
Note:
To prevent valuable data from being accidentally erased from
an SD m em ory card you can slide the w rite protect tab (on the side of the SD m em ory card) to LO C K .
To save, edit, or erase data on an SD m em ory card, you m ust unlock the card.
If a m em ory card is present in the cam era; the cam era w ill autom atically use the card in preference to internal
m em ory.
To remove an SD memory c ard
1. M ake sure your ViviC am 3815 is off.
2. O pen the SD card/battery cover.
3. Press lightly on the edge of the m em ory card and it w ill eject.
Note:
M em ory cards m ay becom e w arm during use; observe caution w hen rem oving m em ory cards.
W hen a m em ory card is rem oved from the cam era; the cam era w ill autom atically revert to using internal m em ory.

Setting the Date and Time
The D ate/Tim e screen w ill be presented if/w hen:
The ViviC am 3815 is turned on for the first tim e.
The ViviC am 3815 is turned on after rem oving the batteries/A C pow er
adapter for a long period of tim e.
W hen the date and tim e setting screen appears, follow these steps to set
the correct date and tim e. You m ay skip this procedure by pressing EXIT.
1. Enter the values of the year, m onth, day and the tim e by using
the / / / buttons.
To increase the value, press the button.
To decrease the value, press the button.
2. Press the button after all fields are set.

Choosing the Language
W hen you turn on the ViviC am 3815 for the first tim e, the language setting
screen appears, prom pting you to choose a language for displayed infor-
m ation and the LC D m onitor. Follow the steps below to set the O SD (O n-
Screen D isplay) language.
1. Select a language that you prefer by using the / buttons.
2. Press the button after all fields are set.
Note:
The language setting w ill be retained even if the ViviC am 3815 is turned off.

Attaching the Camera Strap
To prevent accidentally dropping your cam era, alw ays use the cam era strap.
A ttach the cam era strap as follow s:
1. Thread the sm all loop of the strap through the strap eyelet on the cam era.
2. Pull the large loop through the sm all loop until the strap is firm ly secured.

BASIC FUNCTIONS
Turning the Power On
1. Press and hold the POWER button for tw o seconds to turn on the cam era.
The LED indicator lights red w hile the cam era is initialized.
O pen the lens cover
Note:
If lens cover is not opened w hile turning on the cam era, a prom pt w ill appear on the LC D m onitor.
Turning the Power Off
Press the POWER button again to turn off the cam era.

Using the LCD Monitor
The LC D m onitor can help you to com pose an im age w hile capturing im ages, replay recorded im ages/video
clips, and adjust cam era settings.
The m ode icons, text and num bers that are displayed on the LC D m onitor m ay vary according to the current
settings.
1. O pen the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on your ViviC am 3815.
2. Set the scene m ode in the C apture m enu based on the desired scenery.
(A uto/Sports/N ight Scene/Portrait/Landscape/B ack Light).
3. C om pose your im age on the LC D m onitor.
4. Press the shutter button.
Note:
In the C apture m ode, pressing [ ]display button w ill select O SD O ff/LC D O ff/LC D O n.
The LC D m onitor is difficult to see in strong sunlight. This is not a m alfunction.
U sing the LC D m onitor for an extended period of tim e w ill decrease the num ber of im ages you can capture.
To conserve battery pow er and increase the num ber of im ages you can capture, w e recom m end you to turn
the LC D m onitor off and use the view finder instead.
A lw ays use the LC D m onitor for MACRO shots to avoid parallax effects.
In [ ] M ovie m ode the LC D m onitor cannot be turned off.
The LC D m onitor m ust be on to use Digital Zoom.

Your cam era is also equipped w ith an optical view finder to com pose im ages.
C apturing im ages by using the optical view finder w ill conserve battery pow er.
The LC D m onitor can help you accurately com pose the pictures and exam ine
all the details, but using it m ay also consum e m ore battery pow er.
1. O pen the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on your ViviC am 3815.
2. Set the scene m ode in the C apture m enu based on the desired scenery.
(A uto/Sports/N ight Scene/Portrait/Landscape/B ack Light).
3. C om pose your im age in the view finder.
4. Press the shutter button.
Normal-Focus Mode
N orm al-focus m ode is used to capture im ages w here the distance to the
subject is 4 feet or greater. Select this m ode for general shooting, including
portraits and scenery.
1. O p en the lens cover and p ress the POWER b utton to turn on your
ViviC am 3815.
2. Slide the focus sw itch located on the front side of the cam era to the [ ]
position.
3. C om pose your im age.
4. Press the shutter button.
Note:
LC D m onitor w ill display [A ] indicating N orm al m ode.
Using the Optical Viewfinder to Shoot

Digital Zoom
U sing digital zoom , im ages appear closer. W hereas digital zoom is a com pelling feature, the m ore an im age is
enlarged (zoom ed), the m ore pixilated (grainier) the im age w ill appear. The digital zoom function is only available
w hen you set the LC D m onitor and the digital zoom to O N by pressing the button.
1. O pen the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on
your ViviC am 3815.
2. Set the scene m ode in the C apture m enu based on the desired scenery.
(A uto/Sports/N ight Scene/Portrait/Landscape/B ack Light).
3. Press the button to activate the zoom function.
You m ay zoom digitally up to 2X.
To exit digital zoom , press the button again.
4. Press the shutter button to capture a zoom edim age.
Note:
You can only use digital zoom at a resolution of 2304 x 1728 ; digital zoom is not available at the
resolutions of 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, or 640 x 480 pixels.
You m ay playback an im age of any size and zoom in upon it.
D igital zoom cannot be used in [ ] M ovie m ode.

Using the Flash
The flash is designed to function autom atically w hen lighting conditions w arrant the use of flash. You can capture
an im age using a flash m ode suitable to your circum stances. If you change the flash m ode, the ViviC am 3815 w ill
retain that setting even if the cam era is turned off.
1. O pen the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on your ViviC am 3815.
2. Set the scene m ode in the C apture m enu based on the desired scenery.
(A uto/Sports/N ight Scene/Portrait/Landscape/B ack Light).
3. Press the [ ] button located on the rear side of the cam era repeatedly
until the desired flash m ode icon appears on the LC D m onitor.
4. C om pose your im age and press the shutter button.
The ViviC am 3815 has four flash m odes:A utom atic, O n (Fill flash), O ff,
autom atic w ith R ed-eye reduction.
The table below w ill help to select the appropriate flash m ode:

Self-Timer
B y using the [ ] self-tim er you can get into the scene w hen capturing group shots. You can capture im ages
w ith the self-tim er in any scene m ode (A uto/Sports/N ight Scene/Portrait/Landscape/B ack Light).
Self-tim er duration can be set to 10 seconds or 5 seconds. Self-tim er m ode appears cyclically as
[10 s] [5 s] [D isplay O ff]. A fter the self-tim er is set, the shutter autom atically releases after 10 seconds or 5
seconds. The self-tim er lam p starts blinking relatively slow for the first 7 seconds or the first 2 seconds and then
blinking rapidly for the last 3 seconds.
1. Secure the cam era to a tripod or place it on a stable surface.
2. O pen the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on your cam era.
3. Set the scene m ode in the C apture m enu based on the desired scenery.

Setting the Image Resolution and Quality
R esolution and quality settings determ ine the pixel size (dim ension), im age file size, and com pression ratio for
your im ages. These settings affect the num ber of im ages that can be stored in m em ory, or on an SD m em ory card.
A s you get to know the ViviC am 3815, it is recom m ended that you try each quality and resolution setting to get an
appreciation for the effects that these settings w ill have on your im ages.
H igher resolution and higher quality im ages offer the best photographic results but produce large files sizes.
Therefore, few er im ages w ill take up m ore m em ory space.
H igh resolution and quality settings are recom m ended for printed output and situations requiring the finest detail.
Low er resolution/quality im ages take up less m em ory space and m ay be quite suitable for sharing im ages via
e-m ail, in a report, or on a w eb page.
To change im age resolution or quality settings perform the steps below :
1. O pen the lens cover and press the POWER button to turn on your ViviC am

W hen the cam era is turned on and connected to your com puter, it is considered to be a disk drive, just like a
floppy disk or C D . You can dow nload (transfer) im ages by copying them from the rem ovable disk(untitleddisk
on a M acintosh) to your com puter hard driver as described in the prior section.
For Computers Running Windows
O pen the rem ovable diskand subsequent folders by double clicking on them . D ouble click on the folder. Your
im ages are inside these folder(s). Select the im ages that you w ant, then choose C opyfrom the Editm enu.
O pen the destination location (folder) and choose Pastefrom the Editm enu. Y ou m ay also drag and drop
im age files from the cam era to a desired location.

For Computers Running Mac OS and Desktop/LX
O pen the untitleddisk w indow and the hard disk or the destination location. D rag and drop from the cam era
disk to the desired destination.
Note:
It is recom m ended that you use the A C pow er adapter as a pow er supply for the cam era w hile transferring
your im ages and video clips from the cam era to your com puter to avoid the cam era m aybe cut off unexpect-

M em ory card users m ay prefer to use a m em ory card reader (highly recom m ended). M em ory card readers

In the C apture m enu, you can specify cam era settings you w ould like to use such as resolution, im age quality, EV
com pensation, w hite balance, scene m ode, ISO , color m ode, im age saturation and sharpness.
1. O pen the lens cover and press PO W ER button to turn on your cam era.
2. Press the M EN U button and then scroll through the options by using the

Your ViviC am 3815 adjusts the exposure each scene autom atically. H ow ever, w hen the subject is too dark or too
bright, you can adjust the exposure m anually. This is called EV com pensation.
The EV com pensation of your cam era can be adjusted from [-2.0 EV] to [+ 2.0 EV] (in 0.5 EV steps).
To adjust EV, press the / button in the m ain m enu or press the
button to enter the sub-m enu and choose the setting. A fter the
adjustm ent is set, press the button to confirm .

White balance
W hen the brightness and nature (source) of the light changes, our eyes
adapt to the difference so that the w hite object rem ains w hite. D igital still
cam eras, also see a w hite object as w hite by averaging the light around the
subject.
The ViviC am 3815 determ ines the w hite balance by averaging the various
kinds of light that enters the lens. You m ay specify the w hite balance w hen
capturing im ages under specific lighting conditions (A uto, D aylight, C loudy,
Sunset, Tungsten and Fluorescent).
[A uto]: autom atically adjusts the w hite balance.
[ D aylight]: for recording outdoors on a bright day.
[ C loudy]: for recording on an overcast day in shade, at tw ilight.

degrees of color saturation (richness) (H igh/M edium /Low ) to m atch your
preferrence. Your im ages w ill give a different im pressons by choosing the
different degrees of color.
Sharpness
Your ViviC am 3815 can autom atically em phasize the borders betw een light
and dark areas of the im age. This w ill m ake the im ages edges look sharper.
In som e scenes you m ay prefer sharper edge detail. In other scenes you
m ay prefer softer edge detail.
