30-60-90 Day Action Plan Branch Manager
Prepared by Roger Clowater, MSc.
Introduction: The Mission of Securitas Canada Limited is to be the knowledge leader in security. Securitas customizes offerings that are suited to the individual customer's needs, in order to deliver the most effective security solutions. They offer a broad range of services, from specialized guarding, mobile services, technology solutions and consulting and investigations. They provide a valuable service in a variety of sectors, from small local businesses to large national organizations. With over 9,000 employees Securitas is able to make a difference.
To achieve this mission, employees work together by focusing on three fundamental values: Integrity, Vigilance, and Helpfulness. These values are ingrained to ensure they build trust with customers, colleagues and the community. These values distinguish and bring the employees together as a company. Through demonstrating this commitment Securitas employees are making a difference and achieving their mission.
The top strategic initiatives of Securitas are: To triple the share of sales in security solutions and technology content in security contracts, to expand their global footprint and maintain a strong position in the security industry, to reach their targets of operational excellence and financial performance. To strive to continuously climb the value chain and create more value for their customers.
Securitas Canada Limited is seeking a Branch Manager. The manager is charged with the primary responsibility of providing leadership and direction to all support and front-line staff at the Branch level. The incumbent for this position is also responsible for ensuring that all assigned duties and specified mandates as stipulated by the Area Vice President are carried out and adhered to.
My View of the Role
The Branch Manager for Toronto 1 currently manages 15 - 20 client sites representing approximately 3,600 - 4000 permanent and temporary hours per week distributed among 100- 130 security professionals. The branch grosses approximately 4 - 5 Million dollars annually with a gross margin of 17.4 percent. The operating margin if it were consistent with the parent company would be lower at 5.1 percent and net margin of 4 percent.
The manager is directly responsible for all branch results from the selection, training, disciplinary action of staff, weekly payroll and invoicing for local and national clients, collections and follow-up for outstanding accounts receivable. Further they are involved in negotiating contracts, developing site post orders, maintenance and analysis of monthly statistics on employee performance, attendance, vacation and sick days. The role of the Branch Manager is that of a facilitator, relationship builder and maintaining smooth operations between the client and Securitas and the guards in a union environment. The manager needs to be strategic and understand how to reduce expenses and increase revenue so the branch either remains profitable or becomes profitable. When we pitch security to businesses it needs to be positioned as a business enabling function that illustrates building value in the value chain. 30-60-90 Day Action Plan Branch Manager

The manager reports directly to the Area Vice President Rowan Hamilton.
The Learning Stage - 30 days
During my first 30 days in the position I would expect to attend training, meet my team members, learn more about the organizations systems and its products and services, and review procedures, policys and processes. Specifically: Meet with my manager to determine what is expected of me and determine goals, key objectives and KPIs. Learn to use the proprietary software systems. I.e. Securitas Online Academy, LMS, SAFES DSR (Detailed Split), WOR (Weekly Operational), CTCR (Confirmed Time by Contract) etc. Familiarize myself with the companys governance and management model, the Toolbox, Six Fingers etc. to ensure that all areas of my daily operations reflect Securitas values, work methods, management philosophy and customer perspective and are reflected throughout the organization. Develop an understanding of the Security Service Start-Up Workbook and analyze previous site examples for opportunities to improve and deliver superior service. Begin to introduce myself to all assigned clients and begin to establish and maintain a relationship as outlined in Best Practices with the goal to ensure client contract renewal within financial goals. Maintain a competitive intelligence file to identify competitors. Maintain a file and identifying potential opportunities (Market Potential Binder). Meet with Union Representatives to understand outstanding grievances and to ensure effective and expeditions resolutions with minimized costs. Begin to develop a relationship with Legal and Human Resources to ensure effective communication and management of security policies. Meet with Hiring and Training to understand site specific client requirements for job profiles and qualifications. Understand the steps to prepare and build competencies of security staff through training. (awareness, training, exercises and methodologies to infuse throughout the organization.) Review previous disciplinary files for Security Officers and implement and maintain a progressive disciplinary track. Assess the performance measurement criteria being used. Review the overall strategy for continuity methods and recovery of business operations after any security-related or other catastrophic event. (I.e. criminal charges against security officers, etc.). Review strategic plan to understand the organizations direction and objectives. Assess the policies, plans, programs, procedures for organizational preparedness of events or circumstances that have the potential to disrupt the continuity of business operations at the Branch level. Begin forming professional relationships with coworkers.
30-60-90 Day Action Plan Branch Manager

Adding my Strengths - 60 days
I would continue to study best practices in the industry, set goals for the next 30 days, meet with my supervisor to gather feedback, build relationships with my colleagues, identifying potential mentors, review the efficiency of company processes and procedures, visit client sites, branches, and continue to attend training. Once I have taken time to fully assess the role within the company, listened to the feedback I would begin by adding my strengths to the equation: I would progressively begin building my own personal brand within the company by showcasing what I do well. Brainstorm ideas and the ways in which my own personal touch can accelerate company growth. Although I started with listening much more than talking, at this stage I would begin to level out the playing field by contributing more to the conversation. Continue to be an effective communicator, open to listen, discuss ideas and concepts and offer opinions and advice. Look for opportunities that would allow me to become more versatile and take on some tasks outside of my set responsibilities. Continue to seek feedback from my manager about their expectations and KPIs for me.
The Transformation - 90 days
Obtain feedback on new processes and procedures, implement new strategies and procedures. I would expect to have a firm grasp of the role of Manager for Toronto 1 Branch of Securitas Canada Limited. At this point I would be concentrating on the following: Continuously look for opportunities to increase sales in security solutions and technology content in security contracts. Present opportunities for expansion and continue to maintain a strong position in the security industry. Strive for operational excellence and financial performance. Continue to climb the value chain and create more value. Coordinate external security audits and assessments and implement recommendations. Based on my knowledge of Securitas Canada Limited gathered to date I would become more proactive around company happenings. My attentiveness and awareness of new projects would be current and their challenges, therefore I would have possible solutions and recommendations ready to be presented. Analyze the difference between the benchmark and growth in my network for any deficiencies and future steps. Maintain a log of any of my novice mistakes to avoid moving forward. Continue to broaden my horizons by getting more involved in areas that can benefit from my insight, work ethic and forwarding the mission of the organization. (Seek out clubs, council, board, or committee). Celebrate my growth and reward myself for my progress.
