Introduction:

Silk bank is the well established commercial bank in Pakistan determined to set higher standards
of achievements. It is the major business partner for the Government of Pakistan with special
emphasis on fostering Pakistan's economic growth through aggressive and balanced lending
policies, technologically oriented products and services offered through its large network of
branches locally, internationally and representative offices.
Banks new identity Silk bank is a name with a meaning that endorses our values. The name
takes its inspiration from Silk, a natural element known for its unique properties. Inspiration
also comes from the Silk route which has been a corridor for trade and commerce between Asia
and the rest of the world for centuries.
Banks ascending symbol marks their quest to move higher and our tag line Yes we can is a
promise of unmatched service quality to our customers. All our initiatives are aimed at attaining
Service Leadership and we will make our service truly unmatched.
Objectives of studying the organization:
Before joining the workforce many students take up a six week program at a reputable firm to
learn firsthand what a job is truly like. This six-week program is called an internship; the
simplest definition of an internship is to gain experience. But experience is quite vague a term.
What do you specifically learn at an internship? In my tenure at Silk bank I pinpointed three
topics.
a. How to behave in a working environment
The first and most important point of an internship is to learn how to interact, socialize and
learn what is appropriate in a working environment. Many young adults find it quite hard to
adjust to professional surroundings which are why at times this is considered the most basic
achievement.
b. To check theoretical knowledge with practical activities:
As we know that theory is an idea and hypothesis which explains some things while Practice
is an exercise and application of any task or theory or in other words translation of an idea
into action. So for this purpose internship plays a very important role in our degree because
many concepts which we study in class room cant be prove at that time practically. Like for
engineering degrees there are labs to do a practicals.
c. Learning about the industry
When working in a company, people learn about the companys industry to stay up to date
with current events. The same applies to the banking industry. You may work in a certain
bank, but all banks may not conduct themselves in the same manner. Procedures may be
slightly different from each other from bank to bank. But the rules that govern a bank will
remain the same. For example certain banks are given the privilege of selling government
securities and certain banks are assigned to collect certain utility bills. But all banks are
governed by the State Bank of Pakistan and all banks follow the rules set by the State Bank,
examples are that withholding tax on any cash withdrawal is 0.2% and tax on profit from
interest is 10% at all banks. It is of the utmost importance to learn about the industry as
profusely as one can, because one may not work in a certain bank their entire life but can
make a career in that particular industry, and we must always remember that knowledge is
power.
Nature of Business:
The main objective of silk bank is to accept deposit and provide loans to its customers and also
to be more efficient in providing services. The bank maintained its commitment to most efficient
and personalized services to its customers. Silk bank of Pakistan introduced many remunerative
schemes for its depositors and introduced computer services for the first time in the banking
history of Pakistan. Silk bank gives advances to small, medium and big industries, commercial
establishment, agriculture, construction companies and other needy persons. Silk bank collects
electricity gas and telephone bills from public and over hundred branches of silk bank Ltd deal in
foreign exchange were facilities are given to financial and commercial so its ultimate objective is
to receive funds from the depositors and provides loans to different sectors including trade,
Industry and agriculture in its most branches.

Comments on structure:
Well from the structure of organizational hierarchy of silk bank it looks like that bank follow the
method of decentralization in their organization in which senior management has shifted the
authority for some types of decision making to lower levels in the organization. This usually
means that the manager of a cost center, profit center, or investment center has the authority to
make decisions that impact his or her area of responsibility. Some decisions can be pushed down
to individual employees, though those decisions are typically limited to expenditures related to
customer service (such as unilaterally deciding to give a customer frees shipping).

Skills gained from the internship
1) Time Management Skills
During my time at Silk bank I learnt the importance of punctuality and performing a task as
quickly but also as efficiently as possible. Time management is an important element of work;
and one learns of prioritizing and organizing ones tasks to the time available to them.

2) Communication Skills
When one works in any organization, especially in customer orientated organizations such as
banks, one must hone in on and perfect their communication skills so as to relay information to
customers quickly and as efficiently as possible.
3) Co-ordination Skills
My experience at Silk bank also perfected my co-ordination skills, making the flow of work easy
to comprehend and tasks being completed on time.
4) Social Skills
Social skills are very important in any aspect of life, and the same rings true for the office
environment. To ensure that a workforce can achieve its goals as efficiently as possible, all
members of that workforce must feel comfortable with each other, without any strain on their
professional relationships, allowing them to work at optimal levels.
