Reflection:
Frankly, I have students who are happy and motivated, who like school and
try to do well in my English class. It is easy to get them to complete the task,
worksheet or homework. I have come to see that all my students need that extra
smile and nod from me. Because I care about them, I dont mind trying to give a little
attention to each of them, but it isnt as easy as I thought because I have about 25
pupils in my class and they proficiency in English is quite good because they are the
first class of Year 5 in SK Sitiawan.
I learned that an exciting lesson plan wasnt enough to hold my pupils
attention, although it is a good start. For one thing, its very hard to be exciting and
cutting edge every day, especially in teaching English. At some point, my students
need to settle in and practice the skills. I needed to develop skills in managing their
behavior and focusing their attention. I needed to do more than just present the
English lessons, I had to plan how I wanted the class period to go, what I wanted
each student doing, when, and what my responses were going to be in order to
obtain the desired learning environment. Once I realized that I needed to put some
structure in place, particularly for the grammar parts, I made adjustments to my
teaching to do this. In Shaa Allah, I will improve my next lesson. I was noticed that, I
have to give clear instruction and questions that will arouse them to deeper think
hopefully the HOTS questions might help me in the next lesson.
