    Predicting through Shodashottary Dasha - V. P. Goel

    Application

    चन्द्रहोरागते कृष्णे सूर्यहोरागते सिते ।

    लग्ने नृणां फलज्ञप्त्यै विचिन्त्या षोडशोत्तरी ॥

    Shodashottary is a special udu dasha based on the nakshatra occupied by Moon at the time of birth. This dasha is only applicable to the horoscopes fulfilling certain conditions. These conditions are;

    1.The ascendant is in hora of Moon and the birth is in dark fortnight. (Krishna Paksha)

    2.The ascendant is in hora of Sun and the birth is in bright fortnight. (Shukla Paksha)

    Any one of the above conditions, if found in a chart, then Shodashottary dasha is applicable to that chart. This dasha is therefore a conditional dasha.

    In this dasha Sun and Moon have a prominent role in deciding its application. The first condition lays down that hora should be of Moon and this Moon should be in dark phase. The second condition lays down that hora should be of Sun and Moon is in bright phase.

    Each zodiacal sign has two horas. Each hora is of 15 degrees. The first hora of any sign is from 0 to 15 degrees and second hora is from 15 to 30 degrees. The first hora of an odd sign belongs to Sun and second hora of an odd sign belongs to Moon. For an even sign the first hora is of Moon and second hora is of Sun. The odd signs are Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius. The even signs are Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces.

    Thus the conditions that emerge for Shodashottary to be applicable to a horoscope are;

    Odd rising signs

    1.The ascendant degrees are 0 to 15 and Moon is waxing (Shukla Paksha).

    2.The ascendant degrees are 15 to 30 and Moon is waning (Krishna Paksha).

    Even rising signs

    1.The ascendant degrees are 0 to 15 and Moon is waning (Krishna Paksha).

    2.The ascendant degrees are 15 to 30 and Moon is waxing (Shukla Paksha).

    All twelve signs rise in a day. Each sign has a hora of Sun and a hora of Moon. The paksha can be Shukla or Krishna paksha. For each sign the condition of application of this dasha is met in one hora. Thus the applicability of this dasha is on fifty percent of charts. Its importance and applicability is high.

    It is necessary that the time of birth is fairly correct and the correct ayanamsha, Chitra Paksha, is only applied. This is important as the results of dasha greatly depend on the relevant divisional charts.

    It is also stressed that a conditional dasha should be given more importance than general dasha.

    The practical application will be demonstrated in example charts for each sign and hora.
