High Technology in Learning English

Technology is the application (app) of science that aims to meet human needs and advance the
objectives of each activity to be performed. While education can be interpreted narrowly (formal) or
broad (formal or informal). In this case the alternative education interpreted as a conscious effort
made by families, communities and government through guidance, teaching, and or training that takes
place at school and outside of school to prepare lifelong learners to be able to play a role in a variety
of environmental right in the future.

In Indonesia, education has always had its own polemics, ranging from curriculum or the education

really be solved until now. Have not completed all of the government regulations on the release of the

However, if high tuition guarantee good quality education?
Currently, the use of technology in learning is not a new thing, such as the use of computers as a
learning medium where a lot of software available that serves to support education.

collaborate and work together with their friends from other classes, groups, and teacher. The network
can help learners create, analyze, and produce information and ideas more easily and efficiently. In

Furthermore, the current Internet technology can be used where we can connect with other people by
using computer network technology. Nowadays, computer network technology plays a major role in
education. Can we know the benefits of computer network technology is very pronounced presence,
with a network of computers we can save energy and costs. Computer network is a group of
computers that are connected to each other. So with the computer network, computers are connected
within it can communicate with each other. For example share data, hardware, sharing of resources,
and others. To build each network, we need equipment that can be used to connect one computer to
another computer. The necessary equipment such as servers, workstations, network cards,
concentrator, and network cable.
Muehleisen (1997) states that "students are interested in utilizing the Internet for three reasons. First
of all, students see the Internet as a trend and want to be part of it. The second reason, the students
realize that the majority of the information circulating on the Internet is in English, and they begin to
understand certain terms that are useful in the mastery of English language skills. The third reason,
the Internet also offers practical experience to speak directly with a functional communicative
experiences give students who will be able to motivate them to use English in everyday. "
Reasons for Using the Internet in English Class
Many of the arguments raised by various authors about the benefits of the Internet for teaching
language, especially English. The following will explain the reason centrality of the Internet for
teaching English:
1 Learn to use a computer by itself can be motivated to learn English. Based on the experience of
Muehleisen (1997) that there are many students who have not mempu using a computer, but when
they are taught how to understand the importance of computers, the average student will be interested
and want to master it.
2 Internet puts English as an international language. Students can understand that the majority of the
information circulating on the Internet is in English. They also find that they can use English as a
medium to learn to communicate with others around the world, and not just limited to English-
speaking countries only. Of course students want to communicate with native speakers, but a lot of
students prefer to communicate with people from other countries.
3 The Internet is an interactive medium. Although students in the stage of trial and error in browsing
on the Internet, but without realizing they have to think and try to use certain terms in English. In
addition, almost all websites provide the e-mail address, so that students can ask questions or send
comments.
4. facility to use the Internet is relatively easy to obtain. In some developed countries, Internet facility
has been available in the computer laboratory. However, the same conditions are not yet fully exist in
developing countries, such as Indonesia. Only in a few specific schools. However, with the current
ICT developments, almost every school has to have a computer laboratory, but has not been
connected to the Internet. Though the facility is easily applied by connecting a computer via telephone
or wireless network.
