characterize the overall educational value of our school district in
areas that matter most in our community.

The Indian Hill School District works to ensure all our students have the opportunities
and support required to reach their highest academic potential. Examples of some
highlights:
! High School:
o Percentage of graduates receiving college/post-secondary scholarships for
the past three years: 48%
o Number of/percentage of National Merit Finalists/Commended Students for
the past three years: 18/9.4%
o SAT avg. for the past three years: Reading 585, Math 593, Writing 576
o ACT avg. for the past three years: Composite 25.8, English 26.1, Math
25.8, Reading 26.0, Science 25.1
o College credit: Available through 24 Advanced Placement courses and the
Post Secondary Education Opportunity Program.
! Middle School:
o Honors/Advanced students: English 42%, Math 78%
o The physical education department received the Ohio Association for
Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance GOLD Award for the fifth
year in a row in 2013-14; IHMS is the only Ohio school to receive this award
more than once, much less five times.
! Elementary (ES) & Primary (PS) Schools:
o The ES & PS strive to meet the diverse needs of each learner to promote
academic achievement: Supported by the Responsive Classroom
Approach, using data to inform instructional decisions, and 11 learning
specialists in a variety of areas.
o The ES & PS focus on whole child development: Comprehensive character
development program, Unified Arts, Spanish starting in first grade, and a
variety of clubs.
! Differentiated instruction is provided for students at all schools.
! World languages offered Spanish (Grades 1-12), Latin & French (Grades 6-12),
Mandarin Chinese (Grades 9-12). Opportunities for students to compete, travel,
volunteer and learn about different cultures in a variety of ways.

The Indian Hill School District values the arts as an integral part of our students
education. We provide strong programs in visual art, performing arts, and music,
including orchestra and band. Examples of some highlights:
! High School:
o Visual arts awards: Student art is regularly chosen for exhibition at the Ohio Art
Education Association. In 2013-14, visual art pieces won four Gold Keys, three
Silver Keys, and 11 Honorable Mentions at the Regional Scholastic Art
competition. Eight pieces were chosen for exhibition at the Regional Ohio
Governors Youth Art Exhibition. One piece won first place at the 2014
Golden Lion Film Festival. Two pieces were chosen for exhibition at Selections
13 at the College of Mount St. Joseph.
o Performing arts awards: In 2013-14, six students received awards in acting,
stage management & choreography from The Theatre League.
o Vocal arts awards: IHHS choruses performed at Xavier University with their
choruses; at St. Timothys Episcopal Church with the adult choir; with Josh
Cares at Newport on the Levee; and for the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation Gala, accompanied by members of the Cincinnati Symphony
Youth Orchestra and conducted by the Assistant Conductor of the Cincinnati
Symphony Orchestra.
o Orchestra awards: This past year, IHHS students were accepted to the Ohio
All-State Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, Cincinnati
Symphony Youth Concert Orchestra, Cincinnati Junior Strings, and the CCM
Cello Choir. A number of students received Superior ratings at the OMEA Solo
& Ensemble contest. John Morris Russell, Cincinnati Pops Conductor,
conducted the IHHS Orchestra in concert with Mariemont & Madeiras
orchestras.
o Band awards: In 2013-14, the IHHS Band also performed with the Madeira &
Mariemont bands under the direction of John Morris Russell, Cincinnati Pops
Conductor. One student was chosen for the highly competitive OMEA State
Honors Jazz Band, and three jazz players entertained at the City of Cincinnati
Mayoral and Council Inauguration. One student received the Hank Marr Jazz
Award, the states highest honor for jazz students. Students regularly
participate in the OMEA Honor Band and NKU Tri-State Band Symposium.
Several students participated with University of Cincinnatis CCM-Prep
program, the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble. The Braves Marching Band is

a competitive band that regularly wins in a variety of areas. At the Mid States
Band Championships, they placed sixth in finals out of 21 competing bands.
Every year, multiple students receive scholarships to pursue music in college.

! Middle School: Sixth graders study art and music; seventh and eighth graders
choose a specific discipline (41% choir; 23% band; 13% orchestra; 22% visual art).
In 2013-14, seven students won in the Scholastic Arts competition, one student
won an art contest at the Cincinnati Nature Center, and 60 students
participated in the Festival in the Woods Art Show. Eleven students created and
painted a mural for the school. A number of students received Superior ratings
at OMEA Solo & Ensemble contest for orchestra and band.

! Elementary School: Choir is offered as an elective for all students;
band/orchestra is offered twice per week for all students in grade 5; student
artwork is highlighted in Festival in the Woods art presentation.

! Primary School: All students perform in at least one musical; student artwork is
displayed at grade level art shows.


In the Indian Hill School District, we strongly believe there is more to our students than
what they learn in the classroom. Athletics and extracurricular activities build
character, teamwork and engagement. Examples of some highlights:
! Athletic Department Mission: Provide opportunities for each student athlete
to achieve his/her athletic, academic, personal and social potential. The
Indian Hill School District believes in using athletics to encourage leadership;
exhibit sportsmanship; set goals & objectives; understand teamwork; learn
accountability & discipline; strengthen self-esteem; and become better
prepared for life in general.
! Number of athletic teams: 38 teams in 24 sports at the High School; 20 teams
covering 16 sports at the Middle School.
! Athletic highlights from 2013-14: Girls Tennis won State Championship & 17

straight CHL Championship; Girls Cross Country won CHL Championship; Boys
& Girls Cross Country won District Championship; Girls Soccer won CHL
Championship; Boys soccer advanced to State Final Four; Girls Golf won

choirs, a variety of philanthropic activities, drama, writing, and student
government, among many others.

The Indian Hill School District works diligently to maintain the highest educational
standards while balancing budgets and preserving adequate cash reserves. In
2013-14, the district balanced its budget for the ninth consecutive year, as it has for
17 of the past 20 years. Examples of some highlights:

The Indian Hill School District has a long and valued tradition of a strong partnership

! Indian Hill Parent-Teacher Organization (IHPTO): In 2013-14, the IHPTO
donated over $38,000 and 25,000 volunteer hours to the school district, plus
almost $50,000 in Capital Grants. Programs supported include academic
recognition, curriculum enrichment, a variety of field trips, and various
student events and celebrations. Capital Grants purchased items such as
walkie-talkies, monitor systems, microphones, tablets, and playground
equipment.
! Indian Hill Boosters: In 2013-14, the Boosters donated over $36,000 to support
a variety of programs and services for our students. Almost 120 volunteers
also hosted events such as the Antiques Fair, Homecoming events, theatre
events and athletic recognition programs.
! Indian Hill Public Schools Foundation: In 2013-14, the Foundation provided
3,700 hours through volunteers & staff, and almost $40,000 in textbooks,
technology, and programs to the school district. Grants covered computers
for students who could not afford their own, microscopes, software and
curricular supplies. Programs focused on career mentoring, scholarships and
alumni relations.


The Indian Hill School District differentiates services for each child based on individual
needs. Specialized programs for gifted and special education ensure each child
has the best chance of success later in life. Examples of some highlights:
! Students identified as gifted: 51%
! Students with disabilities: appr. 8%
! Students identified as English as a Second Language (ESL): less than 1%
! Students are served along a continuum to address individual needs and
within the regular curriculum.


We are thrilled to report that 2013-14 was another highly successful school year for
the Indian Hill Exempted Village School District.

Our Report Card scores for 2013-14 show the fifteenth consecutive year the district
met Ohios standards of excellence and achieved a superior Performance Index
level. Our students results on the Ohio Assessment Tests and the Ohio Graduation
Test were among the highest in the state. The district received a grade of A in
the new state report card system based upon outstanding student performance on
the Ohio assessments.
The Class of 2014 achieved ACT scores that were 24% above the national average
and almost 20% above the state average. Last years Advanced Placement (AP)
passage rate was 92% across the 24 AP courses offered in 2013-14.
Graduating seniors in 2014 included three National Merit Scholarship winners, seven
National Merit Finalists, and nine National Merit Commended students. These
talented students represent almost 9% of the Class of 2014. This years senior class
includes six National Merit Semifinalists who will be moving on in this years National
Merit Scholarship competition.
Of course, preparing our students for success in high school, college and their
future starts as soon as they enter the District. Beginning in kindergarten at the
Primary School, the Indian Hill Exempted Village School District works to meet each
students individual needs, focusing on developing their academic abilities as well
as other interests and social awareness. Each year students spend in the district
adds to their knowledge, skills and capabilities, preparing them for the myriad
challenges they will face in our changing world.
Indian Hill Exempted Village School District is truly a special place, characterized by
dedicated, intelligent and caring teachers; motivated and engaged students; and
