Gov. Scott Walker joined employ-
ees of Airgas Inc. Oct. 8 in celebrating
the companys new facility in
Germantown.
According to information from
Airgas, the new 250,000-square foot
facility will include office space as well
as the distribution center while also
serving as the new home for the Airgas
Total Access sales unit that serves
Airgas customers in the midwest and
mountain states.
Information from Airgas states the
company is one of the nation's leading
suppliers of industrial, medical and spe-
cialty gases, and hard goods, such as
welding equipment and related prod-
ucts
In comments to employees that fol-
lowed a tour of the new facility, which
is still under construction, Walker said
the companys growth wouldnt be hap-
pening without the quality of the com-
panys employees.
I thank you for that, because its
not just about a building, its about a
company growing, its about adding
employees, its about adding value, cer-
tainly about adding new workspace.
But (overall), it wouldnt happen without
the quality of the employees here in the
state of Wisconsin for Airgas, they
wouldnt be making that kind of invest-
ment, Walker said.
Walker noted that between July
2013-14, Wisconsin ranked third in the
midwest for private sector job creation
while last months state unemployment
rate was 5.6 percent, the lowest since
October 2008.
That wouldnt happen without
companies without employees like
you, Walker told Airgas staff.
Walker also cited a portion of the
new building devoted to training on
welding. He noted that October is man-
ufacturing month and that Wisconsin is
tied with Indiana for their reliance on
manufacturing as part of the workforce.
He noted that many manufacturing
employees are near retirement and that
there is a challenge and an opportuni-
ty for developing a future workforce in
manufacturing.
What youre doing here is not just
about a building, its not just about
sales, its ultimately about helping more
people live the American dream for
those that work here and the customers
you serve along the way, Walker said.

Germantown facility possible involved
a collaboration between the state, vil-
lage and construction firms C.G.
Schmidt, Eppstein Uhen Architects, and
Ric Miller Construction Consulting.
Cichocki said the new facility will
be double the size of the current
Germantown facility while also adding
staff from an other facility in the
Milwaukee area. He said 20 employ-
ees will be added at the new facility
now with 60 more to be added over
the next several years.

Disorderly conduct
A female subject was arrested for
disorderly conduct at 5:11 a.m. Sept. 26
following a fight with a coworker at her
place of employment in the N11000 block
of Moldmakers Way.
Drug possession
Two subjects, a male and a female,
were taken into custody for possession of a
controlled substance at 3:48 p.m. Sept. 27
following a traffic stop at Highway 41 and
Holy Hill Road.
Retail theft
A male subject was arrested for
retail theft at Walmart, W190 N9855
Appleton Avenue, at 9:50 p.m. Sept. 24.
A search of the man yielded heroin and he
was conveyed to the county jail for felony
drug possession.
Theft
A male subject reported the theft of
his wallet from his unlocked vehicle in the
W16000 block of Main Street Sept. 25.
Underage alcohol
A male subject was cited for under-
age consumption of alcohol at 1:56 a.m.
Sept. 28 after he was observed walking
near Highway 41 North and Lannon Road
at 1:56 a.m. Sept. 28. He was transported
to the county jail on a probation hold.
Warrants
A male subject was taken into cus-
tody on a Winnebago County Sheriffs
Department warrant and for possession of
marijuana at 8:51 p.m. Sept. 24 during a
traffic stop at Highway 41 and Lannon
Road North.
A female subject was transported
from the Waukesha County Jail to the
Germantown Police Department on a
Germantown warrant at 6:32 a.m. Sept.
26.

Research into the causes, preven-
tion, and treatment of breast cancer is
being done in many medical centers
throughout the world.
Causes of breast cancer
Studies continue to find lifestyle fac-
tors and habits that alter breast cancer
risk. Some studies are looking at the
effect of exercise, weight gain or loss,
and diet on breast cancer risk. We are
also learning more about how genes
influence breast cancer. This should
happen more quickly now that the
human genome has been mapped out.
Radiation treatment
For women who need radiation after
breast-conserving surgery, newer meth-
ods are being studied to see if they work
as well as standard treatments in keeping
breast cancer from coming back. They
can make it easier to get treatment since
the treatment can be done on in a short-
er time.
New chemotherapy drugs
Because advanced breast cancers are
often hard to treat, researchers are look-
ing for newer, better drugs. A drug class
has been developed that targets cancers
caused by BRCA mutations. This class
of drugs is called PARP inhibitors and
they have shown promise in clinical tri-
als treating breast, ovarian, and prostate
cancers that had spread and were resist-
ant to other treatments. Further studies
are being done to see if this drug can
help patients without BRCA mutations.
Targeted therapies
Targeted therapies are a group of
newer drugs that take advantage of gene
changes in cells that cause cancer.
Drugs that target HER2: A number
of drugs are approved to target excess
HER2 protein. Studies are being done to
see how best to use these in treating
early breast cancer. Other drugs that tar-
get the HER2 protein are being tested in
clinical trials. Researchers are also look-
ing at using a vaccine to target the HER2
protein.
Anti-angiogenesis drugs: For can-
cers to grow, blood vessels must be
made to feed the cancer cells. New
drugs are being made that may be useful
in stopping breast cancer growth by
keeping new blood vessels from form-
ing. Some of these drugs are now being
tested in clinical trials.
Other targeted drugs: Everolimus
(Afinitor) is a targeted therapy drug that
seems to help hormone therapy drugs
work better. It is approved to be given
with one certain hormone therapy drug
to treat advanced hormone receptor-pos-
itive breast cancer in women who have
gone through menopause. It has also
been studied with other hormone thera-
py drugs and for treatment of earlier
stage breast cancer.
Other possible targets for new breast
cancer drugs have been identified in
recent years. Drugs based on these tar-
gets are now being studied, but most are
still in the early stages of clinical trials.

When you start your vehicle, the instru-
ment panel lights up with all those little sym-
bols. As soon as the computer verifies every-
thing is working properly, the lights go off. On
occasion, however, a light remains on and it is
best that you find your vehicle's handbook
and look up a detailed explanation of what
the light means and if the vehicle is safe to
drive. Although some warning lights are spe-
cific to a manufacturer or model, there are
some that are universal. Let's take a look at
some of the more common warning lights and
what you should do in the instance they occur.
The air bag warning light indicates there
is a problem with a crash sensor, an air bag
module, the air bag wiring or the air bag con-
trol module. The vehicle is safe to drive, but
the air bag won't deploy if you are in an acci-
dent. You should have the problem checked
out and repaired as soon as possible.
The brake warning light indicates that the
parking brake is on, the brake fluid is low or
there is a serious hydraulic problem. You
should check the parking brake first and then
the brake fluid level. If it's low, fill it. If the light
remains on, you may have a sensor fault. You
should have this checked out as soon as pos-
sible. If you press the brake pedal and the
light comes on, one of the hydraulic circuits in
the brake system has lost pressure and the
vehicle may not be able to stop. Whatever
you do, don't attempt to drive it. Have it towed
somewhere to be repaired.
The warning light for the antilock brake
system (ABS) indicates temporary loss of the
system. Your brakes will still work, but the
antilock braking you need when coming to a
sudden stop or sliding on a wet surface won't
be available. You should have your vehicle
checked out as soon as possible. If the ABS
and the brake warning lights both come on,
your brake system has a serious hydraulic
problem, in which case your vehicle is not safe
to drive. If you are out driving when this
occurs, pull over as soon as possible, being
careful you don't step on the brakes too harsh-
ly, and have a tow truck come get the vehicle.
The check engine light or malfunction indi-
cator lamp indicates there is a potential emis-
sions fault. There are a number of reasons
why this light might come on, such as dirty fuel
injectors, a loose gas cap, fouled spark plugs,
the failure of an engine sensor or an emissions
control system problem. To find the exact
nature of the problem, a mechanic must attach
your vehicle's diagnostic connector to a scan
tool. You may continue to drive your vehicle
unless another light comes on. In that case,
you should have your vehicle checked out as
soon as possible. If the light comes on while
you are driving, stop the vehicle, switch the
engine off for two minutes and then restart it;
this may reset the engine management system.
The charging system warning light or the
battery charge warning light indicates your
vehicle is running on the battery. The charging

Rotating your car's tires is like going to
the dentist. Nobody likes it, but it's some-
thing that should be done. Depending on
where and when it happens, getting a flat
tire is similar to teeth issues. If a tire goes
flat in your driveway, it's like a small cavi-
ty that has to be filled. It's annoying but
not that big a deal. If a tire blows in rush-
hour traffic, you're talking full-blown root
canal, and who wants that? Here are
some tips to prevent tire decay.
Most newer model cars are front-
wheel drive, and tire rotation becomes
important because the front tires wear
faster than the rear. The reason for this is
simple: When you make any kind of full
turn in traffic or follow the curve of the
road, more of the vehicle's weight is
placed on the edges of the tires. This
especially affects the front tires because
these are ones that are actually turning
while the rear tires stay in a straight line.
This turning causes the edges of the tires
to wear over time. If your tires wear
unevenly, you're suspectible to spotty
braking and poor handling-real
toothaches, er, headaches.
Another important aspect to tire rota-
tion is the eventual replacement of your
tires. If you don't rotate your tires, you'll
replace them two at a time, and that
means always having uneven wear on
your wheels. If you replace your tires four
at a time-and keep them rotated regularly-
you'll have even wear on all four.
How often should you rotate your
tires? Well, that obviously varies based on
the amount of miles you drive each day.
Unfortunately, for some drivers, you may
need to rotate your tires more often than
you visit the dentist for a checkup. A rota-
tion is often recommended at about
7,500 miles. That's often the time for an
oil change, so do some multi-tasking and
get both jobs done at once. Check your
owner's manual to see when it recom-
mends tire rotations for your particular
model.
How to have your tires rotated has
been subject to debate similar to the dis-
course over the merits of fluoride. Again,
check your owner's manual to see if
there's a specific method recommended
for your model of vehicle. If there isn't,
there are two basic ways for front-wheel
drive tire rotation, and both are as simple
as flossing. One method is to move the
front driver's side tire to the back driver's
side and the back driver's side to the front
passenger's side. The front passenger's
side then moves to the back passenger's
side and the back passenger's side to the
front driver's side. Another method is to
swap the front driver's side and the rear
passenger's side tires with each other,
and then swap the front passenger's side
tire with the rear driver's side. Either
method seems to help the tires achieve
more even tread wear,and that's what
you're after.
Keeping your tires rotated on a regu-
lar basis can prevent an ill-timed flat tire
and that can prevent grinding and gnash-
ing your teeth-which is a whole different
dental problem.

There's enough not to like about winter
without having your car break down on the
road. Take these steps while the weather is
warmer so your body temperature doesn't
rise because of car problems when the tem-
peratures drop.
Manual labor
Break out your owner's manual, grab an
iced tea (remember, you're doing this while
it's still warm out) and find a comfy chair.
Now, read your manual and make sure
you've been doing all the recommended
maintenance to this point. Get the things
done that you've neglected and make an
appointment to have anything done that's
required in the immediate future. Anything
that's a problem now (hard starts, stalling,
rough idling) can be exacerbated by haz-
ardous winter conditions.
An ounce of prevention
Do a little investigative snooping under
the hood to prevent trouble before it starts.
Check your belts and hoses for wear. Make
sure all your fluids are topped off, including
the all-important windshield washer reser-
voir. When was the last time your anti-freeze
was changed? If you don't know, it may be
past time. Don't forget the battery. Remove
your terminals and use warm water and bak-
ing soda to clean your battery's posts.
There's nothing worse than having every-
thing mechanically sound only to find your
vehicle won't start because the battery is
dead.
Wiper not wiping?
It's a blizzard outside, but you're warm
and toasty in your smoothly running car.
Stay warm by making sure your windshield
wipers are in good shape before the bliz-
zard. There's nothing worse-not to mention
dangerous-than having to stop every five
minutes, get out of your car and brush the
elements off your windshield because you're
wipers aren't working right. Check the rub-
ber and make sure there are no cracks or
worn spots on the blade. Make sure the
blade adheres to the windshield as it moves.
If it doesn't, you may need to adjust the arm
for a more snug fit. To ensure your wipers
aren't overly taxed when snow and ice hit,
stash a brush and ice scraper in the car to
get as much debris off the windshield as pos-
sible before you begin driving.
Tired tires
The importance of having quality tires to
handle whatever road conditions winter may
hold can't be overstated. Make sure your
tread depth is adequate to handle the con-
ditions for your area. Look at your tires and
inspect them for tread life and uneven wear-
ing. Check for cuts and nicks. While you're
down there, check each tire's air pressure.
Expect the unexpected
You've done everything right, but the
possibility still exists you'll be left stranded
some cold winter night. Be prepared by hav-
ing some essentials to see you through until
help arrives. Clean the junk out of your trunk
and put in the following: flares, a flashlight,
jumper cables, a shovel, blankets and sand
for traction. Have some non-perishable food
in your glove box.
Don't go
Finally, if the weather is too bad, don't
drive in it. Break out your favorite magazine
or newspaper, grab some hot chocolate and
find a comfy chair. The weather will get bet-
ter...eventually.

vehicle's electrical needs. Your vehicle will run
as long as the battery has a charge, which
may not be very long in the daylight and even
less at night. To get more life out your battery,
turn off all unnecessary electrical devices
(radio, heater and defroster). The problem
could be the result of a number of things, such
as corroded or loose battery cables, an alter-
nator malfunction or a damaged drive belt. If
you don't see a problem with the battery
cables or the belt, start the vehicle and turn on
the lights. If they are dim, you have a problem
with the alternator or some other electrical
part. You should have the vehicle checked out
immediately.
The oil pressure warning light indicates
the engine is low on oil or there is no oil pres-
sure. Don't drive your vehicle. If you do, you
will run the risk of severely damaging the
engine. Start by checking the oil level. If it is
low, add some and then turn on the engine to
see if the light goes out. If it does not, you
could have a bad oil pump or a faulty oil pres-
sure-sending unit that will need to be
replaced.
The temperature warning light is not a
light to be ignored. If it comes on while you
are driving, stop immediately and turn the
engine off. If you don't, you could cause
extensive damage to the engine. Once the
engine cools off, unscrew the radiator cap
and check the coolant level. Never remove
the cap when the engine is hot or you could
risk getting burned by coolant or water spray-
ing out. Add coolant and do a quick check for
leaks around the radiator and hoses. Start the
vehicle and proceed with care. If the light
comes on again, you have an internal prob-
lem. There are a number of things that can
cause the engine to overheat besides low
coolant, such as a failed water pump, some-
thing blocking the radiator airflow, a broken
cooling fan, an overworked engine in really
hot weather, the towing of a heavy trailer or
the buildup of sludge inside the cooling sys-
tem.
Depending on the make, model and year
of your vehicle, there are other warning lights
to look out for. These include: Lamp out indi-
cator light, which lets you know you have a
headlight, taillight, stoplight or turn signal light
out. Seat belt warning light or chime, which
lets you know someone hasn't buckled their
seatbelt. Low windshield washer fluid warn-
ing light, which lets you know the windshield
washer reservoir is low. Door ajar warning
light, which lets you know one of the doors or
tailgate isn't shut all of the way. Service
reminder light, which lets you know your vehi-
cle is due for an oil change. Emissions warn-
ing light, which lets you know there is a prob-
lem with the emissions sensor or your vehicle
has reached a certain mileage.
When a warning light comes on, your
vehicle is trying to tell you something. Listen to
it and take care of the problem.

"What are you going to all of that trou-
ble for?" your sister demands to know after
she hears you making an appointment with
a service station to have your tires inspect-
ed. Unlike your sister who lives in the
Sunshine State, you live up north, where
winters can be harsh. In order to ensure
you get where you need to this winter, you
are having your vehicle winterized, starting
with the tires.
Good tires can make all of the differ-
ence on treacherous winter roads. In order
to prepare your vehicle for the rough
weather ahead, you must make sure your
tires are properly inflated. Tires lose about
a psi of air pressure every month and every
time the air temperature drops about 10
degrees. Vehicles with under-inflated tires
do not handle well, especially on icy
roads. They also increase wear and tear
and use more gas (and who needs that
with the price of gas these days).
If your vehicle is brand new, you may not
have to worry much about the tire pressure.
It probably came equipped with a tire pres-
sure monitor that will inform you when the
pressure has dropped below a certain point.
If you have an older vehicle, you will defi-
nitely need to keep an eye on the tire pres-
sure and have your tires checked regularly.
You also need to keep an eye on the
tread depth. The more worn and shallow
the tread on your tires, the less grip you
will have on the road. Depending upon
where you live and how treacherous the
roads become in the winter, you might
want to consider switching to winter tires.
Designed specifically for icy roads, these
will provide you with superior grip. Keep in
mind that you will need to replace all four
tires. Should you do just the back two, you
will compromise your grip and your safety.
To ensure this does not happen, some tire
dealers refuse to sell consumers fewer than
four tires, unless they need a single
replacement winter tire.
It is important that you winterize your
vehicle. Start with the tires and work your
way up. The better prepared your car is for
winter, the safer you will be when out and
about.

You may not know what end of a
wrench to hold, but anybody can get a grip
on these helpful car care tips.
Get the soap
Perhaps the simplest thing to do to take
care of your car is to wash it on a regular
basis. Washing your car once a week can
help keep at bay the bugs, tar and other
debris that can build up over time. Given a
foothold, these things can become nearly
impossible to clean off. If you can't manage
a once-a-week wash, try for once a month.
If you can't manage once a month and you
have kids, hire 'em out.
Check the oil. Stat!
Your car's oil is like its blood. It needs to
be checked regularly. Check your owner's
manual for the type of oil your car uses and
where the oil dipstick under the hood is
located. At least once a month, check your
oil level. Top it off if necessary. All you need
is the oil, a funnel and some paper towels to
clean up any mess.
And while you're checking the oil...
Your car has other fluids that need to be
checked every so often as well. These
include automatic transmission fluid,
coolant (anti-freeze), brake fluid, differen-
tial oil and power steering fluid. Consult
your owner's manual for the location of
these fluid reservoirs. Check their levels
periodically, top them off when necessary
and have them changed when your manual
indicates.
Hold the grease
You're keeping the outside of your car
looking sharp with regular washings, but
how about under the hood? Head to your
local auto parts store and check out the
variety of degreasers available. Follow the
directions and watch your engine sparkle.
An added benefit to having a clean engine
is it makes it easier to locate any trouble
spots (e.g., leaks).
Windshield woes
Between washings your windshield may
get dirty from rain or snowstorms or our
fine-feathered friends. A clean windshield is
crucial to safe driving. Virtually any kind of
glass cleaner and lint-free towel will have
your windshield sparkling in no time. Don't
forget the inside of the windshield as well.
Also check and clean your windows as
necessary.
Out, out, damned spot
It's no fun noticing a spot or two on your
windshield that you want to clean off and
finding out you're out of washer fluid or,
worse yet, your wipers are worn out. Wiper
blades should be changed about once a
year. Check your washer fluid level when
you check the oil.
Lots of lights
There's nothing worse than looking in
your rearview mirror and seeing the flash-
ing lights of a police car behind you.
Sometimes the reason for a traffic stop is as
simple as a missing headlight or taillight.
Avoid this problem by doing a periodic
walkaround of your car to make sure all
lighting systems are functioning. Don't for-
get the light illuminating your license plate.
Inside the vehicle, make sure all your interi-
or lights are working properly.
Inflation situation
Under- or over-inflated tires can be a
dangerous-and sometimes deadly-situation.
Tires improperly inflated wear out faster
and can rob you of the gas mileage you
deserve. Check your owner's manual for
the proper amount of pressure your tires
need. Get in the habit of checking each
tire's pressure at regular intervals. You
could be saving your life and you will save
money.

With colder temperatures coming, you
might be thinking about making some addi-
tions that will help your home and your pock-
etbook get through the winter unscathed.
Many people automatically think of drafty
places in the home like doorsills or older win-
dows. Its a great idea to pay attention to
these, but insulation actually has a much
greater effect. Rather than a quick draft, poor
insulation is like a slow sieve, leaking energy
at every surface of your home. Fall is the per-
fect time to install more insulation in your
home.
The first step is to find out how much insu-
lation you actually have. Crawl up in to your
attic and look at the depth of the insulation
there. That can offer you a clue about the
quality of the rest of the insulation in your
home. There are also numerous organizations
that will come out and do a home energy
audit for you. Having an energy audit is a
good idea for a number of reasons, including
the fact that it will reveal the quality of insula-
tion in hard-to-check places like inside your
walls.
These days, youve got several options
for home insulation. Most people think of
giant rolls of pink, and these rolls or batts are
still readily available. Made of fiberglass or
rock wool, they are easy to install and rela-
tively cheap. They are also cut to standard
widths to fit between wall studs or floor joists
in the ceiling. You might also look into profes-
sional installation of loose-fill, rigid foam or
foam-in-place insulation. Loose-fill insulation
can be blown into place, making it useful for
odd-shaped places like roofs or ducting
where it can be difficult to install other kinds
of insulation. Rigid foam can be applied to
exterior walls and has a higher R-rating
based on thickness.
Each type of insulation is given an R-rat-
ing, essentially a measure of how much resist-
ance to heat flow the product has. As you do
your research, youll quickly learn the R-val-
ues of different types of insulation. Remember
that these are based on depth as well, and
the resistance to heat will change based on
how much material you put into your house.
Each region of the country has different
recommendations for the amount of insulation
you should have, so check with your contrac-
tor before proceeding to maximize your
investment. Insulation is one of the most effec-
tive ways you can reduce your energy expen-
ditures, offering a much faster return on your
investment than other options. In addition to
keeping your home warm in the winter, insu-
lation can keep the heat out in the summer,
doubling your investment. Once youve com-

VILLAGE OF GERMANTOWN
For your convenience the Village Public Works Department is
scheduling a Fall brush pick-up starting the second Monday in October
(October 13, 2014). Although this process will take approximately 2
weeks to complete, we will not be extending the pick-up, or picking up
brush that is put out after Sunday, October 12, 2014.
Limbs shall be no more than 6 foot in length and placed at the curb with
the trunk facing the street for easier handling. Please tie branches 2 or
smaller into bundles no larger than 2 feet in diameter using twine or light
rope. Your cooperation with this will greatly increase the efficiency at
which we can pick up the brush. Brush in containers WILL NOT be
picked up as too often there is yardwaste in the bottom of the
container. Yardwaste and leaves are not included in
the pick-up. We encourage you to take your
yardwaste to the Recycling Center.
Please be aware that raking leaves into the
street area is against Village Ordinance and
the Village of Germantown WILL NOT pick
up such leaves. Again, we encourage you to
take your leaves to the Recycling Center.
Executive Officer Michael L. Molinini said
the company has been in Germantown since
1996 and have known about a week after
we moved in that what we had was too
small. Weve been waiting patiently for so
long to get around to dealing with this as
weve supported growth in other parts of the
US and now its your time.
Molinini thanked Gov. Walker, Village
President Dean Wolter and residents and
civic associations in the village for their sup-
port.
Wolter welcomed Airgas employees to
the new facility. Wolter said the planning
and development of the facility has occurred
over the past two years.
Today is the culmination of all the plans
and many, many meetings so that we can
stand here today and look at this beautiful
building behind us a beautiful building
thats perfect in a perfect place, Wolter
said. Some said this building would never
be built, others said it would be built but not
in Germantown. Ive always believed this
building would be built in Germantown.
Wolter cited the winning team includ-
ing Airgas officials. He thanked the company
distribution facility in Germantown and their
continued support in the community.
Wolter also thanked two officials at the
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for
their assistance in addressing wetland miti-
gation applications that allowed the facility
to be constructed. He also thanked village
staff and construction teams on the project.
Wolter also cited the use of a tax incre-
mental finance (TIF) district for the area that
helped developed the business park for the
facility. He noted that within the past four
years, many companies have expanded in
the village, many of them using Airgas prod-
ucts.
Gov. Walker has helped provide the
right economic environment for this to occur.
Gov. Walker and the state Legislature have
made the right decision, providing tools to
Germantown and all communities in
Wisconsin the ability to attract new business
and for its current businesses to grow and
add jobs, Wolter said.

A one-day show that supports area chari-
ties, the 32nd annual A Community
Affairthe major fundraiser of Menomonee
Falls service organization Community
Leaguewill take place on Saturday, Oct. 18
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Menomonee Falls
High School, W142 N8101 Merrimac Drive,
Menomonee Falls. All proceeds go to chari-
ties. Admission is $4.
The high school gym and cafeteria will be
transformed into an intricately-decorated area
of 100 exhibitors featuring tables of arts,
crafts, collectibles and treasures. All exhibitors
are on one level for the convenience of the
shopper. (Strollers are not permitted.)
It is the wide array of vendors, both new
and returning, that sets this event apart from
others of its kind, said exhibitor chair Kathy
Kirtchen.
The best thing is our variety, she said.
We limit our numbers of types of exhibitors.
For example, we dont have 100 jewelry
booths. We have holiday decorations, garden
items, metal art, home decor, the latest and
greatest in fashion and so much more. There is
so much variety.
The fair will also include other special fea-
tures: free massages from Rivercrest
Chiropractic; $5 appraisals by certified per-
sonal property appraiser Barbara Eash, who
will be giving verbal appraisals for all items
except stamps and coins (two-item limit; pho-
tographs are acceptable); cash raffles of
$500, $200 and $100 (tickets are $2 each,
three for $5, or six for $10; and themed buck-
et/basket raffles.
The events well-known cafe area will fea-
ture sloppy joe sandwiches, Community
Leagues famous chicken salad, hot dogs,
taco nachos, popcorn, and homemade
desserts. The Pastries N More section will
be offering fresh-baked pies, cakes, quick
breads, decorated cookies, bars and hand-
made candies.
The lunch is wonderful and our baked
goods are wonderful, Kirtchen said. The
food is a big draw for everybody.
Attendees can also enjoy browsing and
bidding on the silent auction itemseach
exhibitor has offered a piece for the auc-
tionin the Market Square area.
Overall the event will be an experience to
remember, said Kirtchen.
We know its going to be a spectacular
show because we have worked hard all year
long, she said. It is amazing to see. The gym
is just beautiful.
Proceeds from the show will benefit numer-
ous local and greater metro charities, as well
as scholarships and civic projects. Over
$800,000 has been donated to charities
since the shows inception more than three
decades ago.
We give to so many different groups,
families and organizations, Kirtchen said.
This show is our main way of helping all of
them out.

The village of Germantown is looking for
additional election inspectors/poll workers for
the upcoming election.
Poll workers are responsible for election
procedures in the polling place in which they
are assigned. These procedures include, but
are not limited to: helping to open the polls;
registering voters; issuing ballots; providing
assistance to voters; explaining the use of vot-
ing equipment; closing the polling location;
and delivery of election returns.
Training is required and provided by the
Office of the Village Clerk. This training will
provide the necessary information and knowl-
edge to be a successful election inspector. On
Election Day, inspectors will start at approxi-
mately 6 a.m. and work until the completion of
their duties after the polls close.
Requirements to be an election inspector:
be an adult citizen of the United States who
resides in Washington County; be able to
speak, read and write fluently in English; have
strong clerical skills and be able to solves
problems and be an effective communicator;
work as a team; not a candidate for any office
or being voted on at the polling location dur-
ing the election; enjoy people and service to
others.

Invitational Oct. 3 while Menomonee Falls
finished sixth.
Germantown was led by Jake DuFrane,
who finished fifth overall with a time of
16:30. He was followed by Craig Reese in

thing to cheer for on homecoming
week: A playoff berth.
The Indians scored twice off
West Allis Central turnovers on
the way to a 30-0 win over the
Bulldogs Oct. 3.
"I can't say enough about
these players and these coaches
overcoming all the adversity and
everything to be where they are
right now big homecoming
win," Menomonee Falls Coach
John Baker said afterward. "They
really played hard."
Baker mentioned there were
players who were not available
due to injures and said the win
was "a great overall team effort."
Central stopped Menomonee
Falls opening drive so it was the
defense that got Menomonee
Falls on the board, as Tom Paul
recovered the fumble from a later-
al and returned it 18 yards for a
touchdown at the 4:07 mark of
the first quarter.
Menomonee Falls defense and penal-
ties stopped the Bulldogs next drive,
prompting a third down quick kick by Will
Konecny that gave Menomonee Falls the
ball at their own 19-yard line. Menomonee
Falls started a 19-play drive that ended
with a 31-yard field goal by Connor Flanik
at the 4:54 mark of the second quarter.
The teams traded possession for most of
the third quarter until Menomonee Falls
started a 57-yard drive that ended with a 1-
yard touchdown by Bryce McMurtry at the
2:53 mark of the third quarter to give
Menomonee Falls at 24-0 lead.
Menomonee Falls next drive was
stopped by Central at the Indians 7-yard
line but the Indians defense forced the
Bulldogs into a punt, with Menomonee Falls
starting a drive on their own 41-yard line
that ended with a 14-yard touchdown run
by McMurtry at the 7:02 mark. Jacob
Texiera finished the scoring for
Menomonee Falls when he intercepted a
Central pass and returned it 45-yards for a
touchdown.
With the win, Menomonee Falls quali-
fied for the playoffs for the third straight
season.
"Our ultimate goal is to keep making
the playoffs every year but if we keep get-
ting better you never know what can hap-
pen," Baker said.

came on a 1-yard run by Mike Barnes at
the 5:34 mark of the first quarter and a 11-
yard run by Sam Herriges at the 6:48 mark
of the third quarter.
Germantown lost twice to Divine
Savior Holy Angels (DSHA) at the
Menomonee Falls Invitational Oct. 4.
The Warhawks opened the day with
a 25-20, 19-25, 11-15 loss to the
Dashers. Germantown rebounded with
a 25-21, 25-19 win over Kettle Moraine
Lutheran and followed that with a 25-
16, 25-6 win over West Allis Hale Oct.
4.
In the semifinal, Germantown beat
Greendale 25-19, 25-17. Germantown
then finished the day with a 20-25, 25-
19 loss to DSHA.
Afterward, Germantown Coach Ted
Gollakner said he was pleased with his
teams performance at the invite.
"They played with a lot of energy,
really picked it up against DSHA. They
learned that they can compete with one
of the best teams in the state," Gollakner
said. "I think that's only going to help us
down the road."
The second place finish at the Falls
Invite came a week after a 13th place
finish at the Lynne LaPorte Sprawl in
West Bend. Gollakner said that at the
Sprawl, the difference between a win or
loss were a few mistakes at any point
during the set.
"Obviously, we need to get a little
better. A few things were exposed
against DSHA," Gollakner said. "What
we have to control is stopping the runs
of three or more (points). They had too
many runs or three or more, that dug our
hole for us.
In morning play, Menomonee Falls
lost to Greendale 21-25, 25-27 while
posting wins against Middleton (18-25,
25-18, 15-13) and New Berlin West
(25-18, 25-21). In the semifinals,
Menomonee Falls lost to DSHA 23-25,
23-25 and finished the day with a 23-
25, 25-21 , 14-16 loss to Greendale.
Afterward, Menomonee Falls Coach
J.C. Bruns said his team has to increase
its offense.
"They're trying, which is why we're
so close. It's frustrating, but it's also a
good thing since we're not that far away
-- we just can't over that hump," Bruns
said.
Bruns said a similar pattern occurred
the previous weekend at the Sprawl,
which included wins over Germantown
and Westosha Central.
"Everything comes down to a couple
of points here or there. Unfortunately,
it's a couple of points we don't finish on
that ultimately leads to us not winning a
game," Bruns said.
Menomonee Falls has two week-
night conference matches left before the
conference tournament and the postsea-
son begins.
"We want to be the kind of team
people don't want to play in the play-
offs, that's where we want to be. We
might get a much lower seed than we
normally get, and that's fine," Bruns
said. "We want to be good enough at
the end where we might surprise peo-
ple.

Postseason brackets were released by
the WIAA last week. Menomonee Falls will
face Manitowoc Lincoln at 7 p.m. Oct. 14.
Hamilton is seeded second and will host
Milwaukee Riverside.
Germantown is seeded sixth and will
play at Oshkosh West at the same time.
In Division 4, Kettle Moraine Lutheran is
ranked first in its bracket and will open play
Oct. 14 against the winner of the Cedar
Grove/Belgium vs. Living Word Lutheran
match on Oct. 11.
Early week results: Germantown had a
2-3 North Shore Conference record and a
8-10 overall mark following a 2-0 win over
Port Washington Oct. 7. Zachary Knudson
and Jacob Agbius both scored for
Germantown. Also on Oct. 7, Menomonee
Falls and Hamilton played to a scoreless
tie. Afterward, Hamilton had a 1-2-3
Greater Metro Conference record and 7-6-
4 overall mark while Menomonee Falls had
