Society, politics and human rihgts

Humanity can only exist in a societythe only dimension where individual human can only be
interconnected with others. This human interconnectedness is the core of a society, where all human
members affect one another. The present society (such as in Philippines has few rich rich who co!
exists with its antonymthe poor ma"ority, in which these two opposing poles are interconnected to
one another. The rich has possessed the economic wealth because of poor having little access to wealth
and many even do not have almost nothing. The wealth of society resides mainly to the hands of the
fewwealth that accumulates more wealth while the poor ma"ority divides itself with ine#uitably
distributed wealth.
How did the rich become the owners of great wealth$ Have they been rich from time immemorial, or
have they become rich because of their own virtues of hardwor%, intelligence and discipline alone$ &f
the said virtues are essentials of becoming rich, why do the hardwor%ing, intelligent and disciplined
individuals wor%ing ' hours and more than, do not achieve the e#uity of their labor, coming to point of
leaving the Philippines to wor% abroad and yet still far away from being rich$ (iven the same effort
and time, an average!earner employee or wor%er could only get either an above!minimum salary or
minimum!wage respectively. )hile these two types of people are in great number, more than the
owners of their company, have contributed so much to company*corporation+s welfare, increasing the
sales, profit and income of executives. &t is ironic that the ones who participate in field wor% and in
direct labor for ' hours or more to elevate the company+s sustenance and growth, are the ones who
obtain une#uated return which could hardly meet the daily expenses to avail basic human needs in
everyday. ,n the other hand, the few owners of companies*corporations are en"oying their overflowing
treasury due to increasing sales and profit. The real ma%ers and participants of these sales and profit are
barely recogni-ed for their contribution which the is most decisive factor in enriching the owners.
.ecause of owning huge lump of economic wealth, the rich themselves run the politics of society. They
are the mayors, congressmen, senators, and even our president, who could easily populari-e themselves
through buying airtime in T/, radio, could be endorsed by famous celebrities and could directly buy the
votes of the people. Some of the rich do not directly run in politics, but can support through funding the
rich politicians in their campaign. .ecause of this, the winning politician would be indebted his*her rich
supporter so in return, the former would be passing laws and approving pro"ects using public funds that
serve the interest of the latter. .onus are their privileges to play on national funds such as in por% barrel
etc. Thus, the public does not have a real choice in the electoral process because most of the running
candidates are the corrupt politicians, plus the to miseducation of the public who to vote. Such is the
+forgetfulness+ of the 0ilipinos from the fact that these traditional politicians have already deceived them
many times, perpetuating the +dirty politics+ rule over the system of governance.
The dual role of richcontrolling the economy and manipulating the politics of a society such as ours,
causes the masses of people be deprived of basic human rightsrights to nutritious food, safe shelter,
#uality education and health service, sustainable "obs and freedom of expression. 1 human is and
becomes a human because of rights that should and must be reali-ed. ,therwise, being a human is
compromised. &f we loo% deeper and wider in and on society, the reali-ation of human rights are not
exercised. &ncreasing of number of families who cannot eat three healthy meals a day. Slums and
informal settlers flourishing in the city due to poverty in the province. 2ducation becoming more and
more a privilege of who can buy it. 3umbering youth who cannot pursue college education because of
high school tuitions and fees. /ast number of children and youngsters choosing to wor% instead of
schooling due to poverty. 4nemployment and underemployment rising. Hospital services becoming
inade#uate and insufficient because of goverment+s lac% of subsidy. 1nd many more realities. 5et there
is a good news. The rich half!0ilipino tycoons (Sy, Tan, (o%ongwei, 1yala, 6obel are playing the
ran%s of world+s richest people.
,ur society is becoming far and farther away from (od. There can only be genuine society for all if
everyone would be 7hristli%e. & remember the young rich man who as%ed 7hrist of how to inherit
eternal life. 1side of following the commandments, 8esus also answered9 :(o, sell everything you have
and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.: The rich cannot
practice this teaching. The world (most especially the rich; must reflect this very important verse of
7hrist+s teachings. <eflecting and practicing this, the world would soon be a better place and a real
home for everyone. 3o more wars, no more poverty. The real heaven that has been missioned by (od+s
crucifixion of His Son. =& tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and
sisters,

you were doing it to me.> (?atthew @A9BC
