Selfie In Dictionary

A father asks his daughter, A new word Selfie has been added
to the dictionary, are you aware. She replies, Of course dad I
know what is Selfie but what is a Dictionary. Sounds amusing
but it underlines the gloomy side of human evolution. Some call it
preoccupation with self and others term it desperate and
transparent attempt for attention and approval. To an extent, it has
even been described as a sign of Narcissistic personality disorder.

Are YOU suffering?
The research says that selfies are a young persons game, with
an estimated average age of 23.7. If you fall somewhere close to
this age, you could be one. If you pursue gratification from vanity,
click multiple selfies to select one, you are also showing early
signs of this disease. Its not just you but hell of a lot of people
around. Gurgaon has a shopping mall called Selfie Square. If you
are curious to know which are the products to click better selfies,
you rate high on my Selfie meter. A two-way mirror that takes
selfies for you is available in market and is a piece to fillip your
narcissistic tendencies. Another product called a Selfie stick is
available online for better selfies with no unintentional cropped
faces.

Some interesting controversies
A few selfies have managed to get headline grabbing attention
and become a butt of jokes too. These involve the most
powerful person on earth, the most talked about Indian and the
famous faces of Hollywood. It all started with President Obama
clicking a selfie with world leaders. Makes perfect sense had
the selfie not been clicked at a funeral. Why would Narendra
Modi be dragged to court to be acquitted a few days later. The
reason It was the Polling day. A selfie at Oscan event cant
be questioned but was, because it was later understood to be a
planned click to promote Samsung Note 3. Interestingly even
monkeys have not been spared; with the news doing rounds
that when monkey takes a selfie, who owns it? Wikimedia
platform where the photo was uploaded finally said, When a
monkey takes a selfie, no one owns it.

Whats next?
Microsoft recently launched the first selfie phone and the whole
industry followed. The humble front facing VGA camera has
been ditched by a potent 5 mega pixels. On one hand, it is an
indication of the growth of technology and on the other is a sign
of self obsession. Theres no denying the fact that selfie has
grown from a dictionary entry to a global phenomenon and is a
sign of our development. Whats next is a question that only
time will answer but for now the father who asked the question
must be wondering if he missed some trick in the book.

(An honest confession Clicked a selfie and posted it on
social networking site before writing this article)
