CLIMATE
Sarawak enjoys its tropical climate with average daytime temperatures of 23-32C. The rainy season
from November to February brings heavier rain and cool evenings.
LANGUAGE
Malay is the national language. However, English is widely spoken throughout the state.
GETTING AROUND
Regular flights connect the capital city, Kuching to the major towns of Sarawak, as do express buses
and boats. Cars, carter planes, boats and helicopters can also be hired for travelling between the towns.
Taxis are available in all major towns, too.
CURRENCY
The official currency is the Malaysian Ringgit (RM). Money can be exchanged at banks, hotels and
licensed money-changers. There are also ATM machines in towns and major airports.
ETQUETTE
Appropriate attire is appreciated when visiting places of worship. Shoes should be removed before
entering homes or longhouses.

There are many advantages and benefits for the internet users. Firstly, children can search the
meanings of words on the internet. For example, Julia has found the meaning of the word internet using online
dictionary. It helps her to understand what the internet is. Julia and her friends can now search for other
information which can help them to learn English.
Secondly, we can use it to send and receive emails. Julia is learning from her teacher on how to send
and receive emails. She will send emails to her friends. She also can send attachment of pictures with the
emails. It is easier than sending ordinary mail.
Thirdly, the internet can help her to learn new skills and get to know new ideas, such as learning to
type, save and print files, download files, read interesting texts, play games and solve puzzles.
When we use the internet, we can search for other information by using the many resources. For
example, Julia uses clip art drawings and cartoons for her projects and surf other websites to ask questions
about things she does not know.
The internet has helped Julia to do many things. It also helped her in her school work. Her English has
improved as most of the information on the internet is in English.
