Element Trading Cards

Have you ever seen baseball cards? Pokmon cards? Magic cards? The idea of
baseball cards is that you can learn more about the player while adding the
rarest cards to your collection. This project will allow us to learn more about a
handful of elements as we create our own element trading cards!
Heres how it works:
You will choose 8 DIFFERENT ELEMENTS from the periodic table.
See pages C36 and C37 in your textbook for a picture of the Periodic Table of
Elements.
Do not choose an element in the bottom two rows (Lanthanum, Cerium, etc.)
You will not find enough information on those elements.
For each card, you must include the following:
The name of the element
The chemical symbol for the element (the letters found on the
periodic table)
The atomic number (The number in the upper left corner of the
box)
The scientist that discovered the element
The year it was discovered
At least three uses for the element
At least two properties (physical or chemical). Make sure that you
use some of the new vocab words that we learned for the
properties
You will need to have at least one picture on each card and the
cards must be colorful! No collector will want boring black and
white cards!
We will be working on this project for the remainder of the week.
ON MONDAY, EACH STUDENT WILL GIVE A SHORT PRESENTATION ON JUST
ONE OF THEIR TRADING CARDS.
Heres how you will be scored:
Each card will be worth 5 points:
point each for the name, chemical symbol, atomic number,
scientist, year of discovery
1.5 points total for the uses ( point for each use)
1 point total for the properties ( point for each property)
You will also receive a total of 5 point for the pictures and colorful cards, plus
an additional 5 points for a great presentation on Monday.
That means that this project is 50 points! You must work very hard to get this
done.

Below is an example of a few cards. They do not each meet the exact
requirements, so make sure to follow the direction above. These are just to
get your ideas flowing!
