Subject:    Class Participation  

As we approach the end of the semester, I have found a certain level of satisfaction with my progress in this class. Hence, I see it 
necessary that my points for class participation be credited equally towards the work I have done and the effort I have put into 
this class. Please take the following responses as consideration for my participation points of 46/50.   

a. Attendance 
b. Class contribution 
c. Work ethic 

Attendance 

Out of sixteen weeks of classes I have only been absent once. And this was due to the overwhelming work load from other 
classes that forced me to miss one class period. Since this was a class missed during unit three, involving Second Life and group 
discussions, I made it a point to meet with my group out of class the same day to discuss what I missed in class for the benefit of 
our group. My absence on the last week of class was something we discussed about early on the semester. Hence, my additional 
two absences should not be calculated towards my attendance points, since we already made arrangements for my final 
presentation and a mutual understanding was obtained for me to keep up with my class work via electronic mail till the last day 
of finals.  

Class Contribution 

There is no doubt that I have been significantly active in class. I have contributed to class discussion on Lechner’s Eight Impacts 
on Writing. I have been able to ask questions out aloud in class that I feel will benefit the class and me. To refresh our memories, 
I have asked you questions regarding building in Second Life. Besides class discussions, I have also worked well in small group 
discussions. One of the major contributions I made in small group discussion was related to topics for the unit three proposals. I 
uploaded a list of topics discussed in the two small groups I was in on Blackboard. This allowed my fellow classmates to reflect on 
the topics. Besides this, I have also contributed to the class as a whole, when the pace of instruction in the class was too fast. I 
emailed you with great concern for my understanding of the subject as well as my fellow classmates. This resulted in the class 
being paced according to the students’ ability to accomplish tasks and keep up with the material in a manageable manner.  

Work Ethics 

I have gone to great extent to develop my proficiency in this course. I used my time available outside of class to do well in class. 
Prior to each class session, I read the reading materials posted on blackboard as well as chapters on the textbook as assigned. I 
have also taken notes in class as well as from my readings to help me understand the materials better. My initiative is also 
obvious as I take time to come to your office to seek help with my materials. I have also sent you my unit one materials for 
review three times now. Besides that, I have also reviewed my essay and added the bibliography portion to help raise my grade. 
To help me with my reviews, I did multiple peer reviews with friends whom are not in this class. Last but not least, I am sure, that 
I have submitted all of my completed work on time. This should be significant to prove that I have a positive work ethic.  

From the above criterions, I have clearly shown great interest in the class materials for my personal development in the subject 
as well as for my future use. My works ethics, class contribution and attendance are strong evidence for my noteworthy class 
participation.
