REGISTRATIN OF MARRIAGE UNDER HINDU MARRIAGE ACT 1955

8. Registration of Hindu marriages.
(1) For the purpose of facilitating the proof of Hindu marriages, the State Government may mae rules
providing that the parties to any such marriage may have the particulars relating to their marriage entered
in such manner and su!"ect to such conditions as may !e prescri!ed in a Hindu #arriage Register ept for
the purpose.
($) %ot&ithstanding anything contained in su!'section (1), the State Government may, if it is of opinion
that it is necessary or e(pedient so to do, provide that the entering of the particulars referred to in su!'
section (1) shall !e compulsory in the State or in any part thereof, &hether in all cases or in such cases as
may !e specified, and &here any such direction has !een issued, any person contravening any rule made
in this !ehalf shall !e punisha!le &ith fine &hich may e(tend to t&enty'five rupees.
()) *ll rules made under this section shall !e laid !efore the State +egislature, as soon as may !e, after
they are made.
(,) -he Hindu #arriage Register shall at all reasona!le times !e open for inspection, and shall !e
admissi!le as evidence of the statements therein contained and certified e(tracts therefrom shall, on
application, !e given !y the Registrar on payment to him of the prescri!ed fee.
(.) %ot&ithstanding anything contained in this section, the validity of any Hindu marriage shall in no &ay
!e affected !y the omission to mae the entry.
